If you need a full-page screenshot without leaving Safari, compare Safari extensions such as FireShot, Awesome Screenshot, and FullPage Screenshot for Safari. Safari’s built-in File > Save As feature is useful for keeping a webpage, but its Web Archive is not a screenshot image. No comparative hands-on test establishes a universal winner, so check each candidate on the pages you actually need to capture.
Which Safari screenshot tool should you choose?
| Option | What it offers | Best fit | Important caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| FireShot | Its US Mac App Store listing advertises full-page, visible-area, and custom-selection captures; searchable PDF and PNG/JPEG output; capture history; and local processing. | Try it if you want multiple capture modes or searchable PDFs. | Features and privacy practices here are claims in the listing, not an independent security assessment. No hands-on compatibility test was conducted. |
| Awesome Screenshot | Its support article describes opening the Safari extension and choosing “Capture Full Page.” | Consider it if you want a documented Safari capture workflow. | The instructions do not establish pricing, program terms, or success on every website. |
| FullPage Screenshot for Safari | Its Mac App Store listing describes full-page and visible-area capture, editing, and PNG/PDF export. | Consider it if in-app markup and PDF export matter. | Some App Store reviewers report incomplete captures on particular pages. Those reviews are not controlled tests or a measure of failure frequency. |
| GoFullPage | Its product site and Chrome Web Store presence indicate a Chromium-oriented tool. | Possible fallback if you are willing to use a Chromium browser. | The available information does not establish that it is a Safari extension. Check current browser and store compatibility before relying on it. |
For a page you only need to revisit with its structure and links, use Safari’s Web Archive instead. For a full-page image or PDF while staying in Safari, compare the extensions’ output formats and editing features, then test the one you prefer on your target page.

Safari’s built-in save feature is not a screenshot
Apple’s Safari 26 user guide says you can save an entire webpage, including graphics and links, or just part of one. The documented File > Save As choices include Web Archive and page source: a Web Archive retains page content and working links when their destinations remain available, while page source saves HTML. Neither is described as exporting a full-page screenshot image. Apple also notes that some webpages may prevent saving items. See Apple’s Safari guide to saving a webpage.
What each Safari extension documents
FireShot
The US Mac App Store listing for FireShot: Web Page Screenshots advertises full-page, visible-part, and custom-selection captures, along with searchable PDF and PNG/JPEG export. It also describes capture history and local processing. Treat those as vendor-listed capabilities, not independent confirmation of how every page behaves or a security audit. The listing is free, but its “Trusted by 5,000,000+ users worldwide” marketing line does not identify a statistical publisher or year, so it should not be read as a verified usage statistic.
#1 Best Overall
Awesome Screenshot
Awesome Screenshot’s Safari extension instructions, updated December 24, 2025, direct users to open the extension and select “Capture Full Page.” That documents a route to the command, but it does not guarantee a complete capture on every site or establish current pricing.
FullPage Screenshot for Safari
The Mac App Store listing for FullPage Screenshot for Safari describes full-page and visible-area capture, editing, and PNG/PDF export. Some reviewers say captures missed lower-page sections or content in particular cases; those individual reports are a reason to test your own pages, not evidence of a general failure rate. The listing advises quitting and reopening Safari after activating the extension if Safari does not recognize it.

How to choose and check a capture
- Decide what you need to keep. For a revisit-friendly copy with structure and links, use Safari’s Web Archive. For a shareable image or PDF of the page, use a screenshot extension.
- Match the output to the job. Check whether you need PNG or JPEG, a searchable PDF, a custom region, or editing and markup. The documented options differ, so do not assume each extension provides every format or control.
- Run a test on the actual page. Inspect the top, middle, and bottom of the resulting capture, and check embedded panels and other content you need. The available documentation and reviews do not establish which tool handles long pages, dynamic loading, or embedded content best.
- Check the extension is enabled. If Safari does not recognize FullPage Screenshot after activation, follow its listing’s advice to quit and reopen Safari, then try again.
- For sensitive pages, assess the workflow. FireShot’s listing says processing is local; that is a developer statement, not an independent assessment. Review the current extension and store information before capturing confidential material.

If a Safari extension is not the right fit, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. A single GET request returns an image or PDF, so it is an alternative to try first when you want a service-based capture workflow rather than a Safari extension. This does not make it a Safari extension or establish that it will handle every page better.
