If you want to capture an entire scrolling webpage for free, OpenCapture is the strongest documented fit when you also need cropping, annotations, blur, and PNG or PDF export across Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. For a simpler capture-and-export workflow, consider GoFullPage; for batch or multipage work, investigate FireShot and verify its current free-versus-paid features before choosing.
The right replacement depends on more than whether it can scroll a page: check your browser, editing needs, export format, privacy expectations, and whether you need batch capture or a paginated PDF. The product capabilities below are vendor descriptions, not independent test results or security audits.

What a full-page screenshot tool does
A full-page capture extension scrolls down the webpage, captures successive visible sections, and assembles them into a single image or export. That is different from taking a screenshot of only the content currently visible in the browser window.

Compare the free alternatives by what you need
| Tool | Best fit | What its sources say | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| ScreenshotNeo | Developers who want a screenshot API or MCP server rather than a browser extension | One GET request can return a screenshot or PDF. It removes supported consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; only clean shots are billed. Its free plan includes 1,000 shots a month without a card. | It is a service for programmatic capture, not a free browser-extension substitute with a graphical crop-and-annotation editor. See the API section below. |
| OpenCapture | Free capture plus editing in Chrome, Edge, or Firefox | The vendor lists full-page capture, crop, annotation, blur, PNG and PDF export, local processing, and no account requirement. | These are vendor claims, not an independent privacy audit. Tiled watermarking is listed as a paid feature. |
| GoFullPage | Simple whole-page capture and image or PDF export, particularly for Firefox | The Firefox listing describes capture and export, with editing described as premium. | The reviewed Firefox source does not establish current feature parity in Chrome. Its listing also notes that very large pages may split across images. |
| GoFullScreenshot | Chromium users who value local handling and optional capture history | Its support page describes in-browser capture, stitching, editing, export, and optional history; it says no upload and documents tested Edge support. | These are vendor statements. The documentation says Chrome-protected pages are out of scope. |
| FireShot | Worth investigating for batch capture or multipage PDF workflows | OpenCapture’s comparison attributes batch and multipage PDF capabilities to FireShot, and says some editing and batch tools are licensed. | This comparison is published by a competitor. Confirm the current features and licensing in FireShot’s own listing before relying on them. |
Which alternative should you choose?
Choose OpenCapture for free capture with basic editing
If your main requirement is to capture the whole webpage and crop, annotate, or blur the result without paying for an editor, OpenCapture is the most directly documented match. Its site lists Chrome, Edge, and Firefox support, plus PNG and PDF export. OpenCapture says: “Nothing is uploaded — the extension runs entirely in your browser.” Treat that as the vendor’s description of its handling, not as an independent audit.
OpenCapture lists tiled watermarking at a one-time $5 for 1,000 credits. Check its current pricing and feature page before purchase, since product terms can change.

Choose GoFullPage for a straightforward capture-and-export workflow
GoFullPage is a reasonable option if you mainly need to capture and export a page, and do not need its editing tools included for free. The opened Firefox listing describes its editor as premium. Check the listing for your browser and the current store changelog before installing; the Firefox description alone does not establish current Chrome availability or identical features.
Investigate FireShot for batch or multipage jobs
If you routinely capture multiple pages or need a multipage PDF, FireShot may be worth comparing. The available detail comes from OpenCapture’s competitor comparison, so verify both the workflow and the free-versus-licensed feature boundary in FireShot’s official browser listing. A single tall screenshot exported as PDF is not automatically equivalent to a readable, paginated document.

Consider GoFullScreenshot when local history matters
GoFullScreenshot’s support documentation describes local capture, stitching, editing, export, and optional history, and states that capture data is not uploaded. It documents tested Edge support and says Chrome-protected pages are outside its scope. Those privacy and compatibility details are the vendor’s own statements, not an independent assessment.
Check browser support, exports, and privacy before switching
- Browser: OpenCapture lists Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. The reviewed GoFullPage source is its Firefox listing; check the live store page for your own browser. Do not assume Safari, Opera, or another browser is supported based on these descriptions.
- Editing: Confirm whether crop, annotation, and blur are included for free. GoFullPage describes editing as premium, while OpenCapture lists crop, annotation, and blur among its free features.
- Export: PNG is useful as a single image; PDF may be an image placed on pages rather than a well-laid-out document. Inspect page breaks, text readability, and whether the export is one page or several.
- Privacy: OpenCapture and GoFullScreenshot say processing stays in the browser and no upload is required. These are vendor claims; the reviewed information does not establish independent security testing.
- Redaction: A blur tool can obscure visible content, but the available sources do not independently validate whether blur irreversibly removes underlying sensitive information. Do not treat a blur as secure redaction without checking how the exported file is encoded.
- Protected pages: Browser security restrictions can block extension capture on internal or protected pages. GoFullScreenshot specifically excludes Chrome-protected pages in its documentation.
When a screenshot API is a better alternative
Browser extensions are convenient for occasional manual captures. If you need screenshots in a script, application, scheduled job, or AI-agent workflow, ScreenshotNeo is the first API alternative to try: it removes supported consent banners, popups, and chat widgets before capture, and bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed. Responses include page-verdict and billing headers.
ScreenshotNeo is not a browser extension or a free visual editor. Its free plan provides 1,000 screenshots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

The capture is split or too large
Long pages can exceed image-size limits. GoFullPage’s Firefox listing warns that unusually large pages may be split into multiple images. Try capturing a smaller page region if the extension offers it, or use a PDF workflow and inspect how it paginates.

The extension cannot capture the page
Protected browser pages may be unavailable to extensions; GoFullScreenshot’s documentation names Chrome-protected pages as out of scope. For internal sites, confirm the extension’s permissions and browser restrictions, and do not assume an extension can capture every tab.

Check whether the feature is paid or browser-specific. GoFullPage describes editing as premium, and OpenCapture identifies tiled watermarking as paid. Store listings and vendor pages can change, so confirm the feature boundary for your installed version.
The PDF is difficult to read
Determine whether you need one tall image or a document split into pages. A full-page capture preserves the page as an image; it does not necessarily create sensible print pagination. Check page breaks, scale, and text legibility before sharing or printing.
Cost and reliability considerations
A free extension can be enough for occasional manual captures, but free capture does not mean every editing or workflow feature is free. Compare the actual export and editor limits against your use case. If captures are part of an automated system, an API may be more suitable, but account for its plan limits and how it reports failed or non-billable captures. No independent speed, reliability, or security test results are established for the extensions described here.
