If you want another first-person horror game after Dementium II, start with Amnesia: The Dark Descent for the closest documented match in perspective and survival-horror framing. Choose SOMA for science-fiction dread in an underwater facility, or Alien: Isolation for survival horror built around an unpredictable pursuer. None should be assumed to reproduce Dementium II’s particular mix of weapons, puzzles, and exploration.

What makes a game feel like Dementium II?

Nintendo describes Dementium II as a Nintendo DS survival-horror adventure about escaping a sinister treatment centre. Its features include sprawling 3D environments, puzzles, weapons, equipment, and a map; players can wield weapons without putting away the flashlight. Those details make it more specific than a general first-person horror reference: the combination of close-up perspective, exploration, combat, and puzzle-solving matters. Nintendo’s game description outlines that original handheld experience.

The later PC release, Dementium II HD, is described on Steam as a rebuilt version of the handheld game, with updated visuals and lighting and refined controls. Steam characterizes its gameplay as balancing action, story, and puzzles. It is related to the original, but its presentation is not identical to the DS version. Steam’s listing describes the HD release.

Best games to try after Dementium II

Amnesia: The Dark Descent — closest match for first-person survival horror

Amnesia: The Dark Descent is the strongest starting point if what you want to carry forward is the first-person survival-horror framing. Its official site identifies it in those terms. That does not establish a match for Dementium II’s weapon use, treatment-centre setting, or action-and-puzzle balance, so think of it as a match in perspective and broad genre rather than a mechanical substitute. The official Amnesia site provides the genre description.

SOMA — for horror in a science-fiction facility

Try SOMA if you want a different setting while keeping a first-person horror direction. PlayStation places its story at PATHOS-II, an underwater facility where the player encounters the horrors and remaining inhabitants there. Frictional Games, the studio behind Amnesia: The Dark Descent, describes SOMA as sci-fi horror. The underwater science-fiction environment is a clear departure from Dementium II’s treatment centre; the available descriptions do not establish a close match in weapon use or puzzle design. PlayStation’s SOMA page and Frictional Games’ description explain its setting and genre.

Alien: Isolation — for dread from a dangerous pursuer

Choose Alien: Isolation if the survival-horror tension you want is being hunted. PlayStation describes an atmosphere of constant dread and mortal danger as Amanda moves through a volatile world with an unpredictable Alien. That makes it a useful choice for threat-driven horror, but the official description does not establish a close match to Dementium II’s treatment-centre setting or its action-and-puzzle balance. PlayStation’s Alien: Isolation page describes its premise.

How to choose between them

  • Pick Amnesia: The Dark Descent if first-person survival horror is the main thing you want to preserve.
  • Pick SOMA if you want horror in a markedly different, underwater science-fiction setting.
  • Pick Alien: Isolation if you want the central threat to be an unpredictable pursuer and the mood to emphasize dread.

Before choosing, consider what you value most in Dementium II: direct combat, exploration and puzzles, or the atmosphere of its setting. The cited descriptions support the recommendations above by genre, perspective, setting, or threat; they do not establish identical mechanics across these games. Platform availability and storefront editions can change, so check the official or storefront listing for the version and platform you intend to play.
