Cloudflare documents broad DDoS protection, but it is an edge and network protection service that can sit in front of a separate origin host—not a like-for-like substitute for hosting. The available evidence does not establish five objectively best providers, so the names below should not be read as a verified ranking.
Why “DDoS-protected hosting” can mean different things
A service may host your application, protect the network in front of a host, or do both. Those roles affect what remains available during an attack: protection for a website at the edge does not automatically protect an origin server that attackers can reach directly, and network mitigation alone may not filter malicious requests that look like ordinary application traffic.

- Origin hosting: the infrastructure where your website, game server, or application runs.
- Edge or network protection: a service that filters traffic before it reaches an origin host, or protects network infrastructure directly.
- Network/transport protection versus application protection: network defenses address traffic at lower layers; application-layer controls need to understand the behavior of the service being attacked. A provider’s claim of DDoS protection does not by itself establish coverage for every layer or protocol.
The five-provider framing needs qualification: official product details in the available material establish useful facts for OVHcloud and Cloudflare, but not enough to verify five providers’ current protection terms and compare them fairly.

| Provider or service | Role | What is established | What remains unverified or important |
|---|---|---|---|
| OVHcloud | Conventional hosting and infrastructure | OVHcloud says Anti-DDoS is enabled by default across its products, included without an additional protection charge, and unmetered with no time limit during an attack. Its page describes always-on detection and mitigation, plus dashboard activity logs, traffic charts, and statistics. | OVHcloud warns that generic protection may not be sufficient for application-layer attacks. Check whether your application needs additional controls and whether they are configured for its traffic. |
| Cloudflare | Edge and network protection; may protect a separate origin | Cloudflare documents standard unmetered DDoS protection across layers 3–7 on Free, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans. Its documentation covers TCP, UDP, DNS, and HTTP/S, and excludes SMTP, IMAP, and POP3. | The specific protection layer and capabilities depend on the product and service onboarded. Confirm coverage for your protocol and secure the origin so attackers cannot bypass the edge. |
| Kinsta | Lead named for managed WordPress hosting | An April 2026 iTechGuides roundup names Kinsta as a provider to consider for managed WordPress. | Current official DDoS coverage, protocols, limits, pricing, and support terms were not established. |
| Liquid Web | Lead named for managed VPS or dedicated hosting | An April 2026 iTechGuides roundup names Liquid Web as a provider to consider for managed VPS or dedicated hosting. | Current official DDoS coverage, protocols, limits, pricing, and support terms were not established. |

What the documented options actually offer
OVHcloud: protection attached to hosting and infrastructure
OVHcloud’s Anti-DDoS infrastructure page says: “All OVHcloud products are delivered with Anti-DDoS protection enabled.” The provider describes the service as always on, included, and unmetered during attacks. Its dashboard is described as providing activity logs, traffic charts, and statistics, which can help an administrator understand what happened during an incident.
OVHcloud also cautions that application-layer attack logic can evade generic firewalls, particularly in web and gaming contexts. Treat its included Anti-DDoS service as a baseline, not proof that a particular application is protected against every attack pattern.

- HARDWARE PLUS SECURITY SERVICES: FortiGate-60F Firewall Appliance bundled with 1 year of FortiCare Premium and FortiGuard Unified Threat Protection.
- UNIFIED THREAT PROTECTION (UTP): Secures against advanced online threats with comprehensive web filtering and anti-botnet technologies.
- OPTIMIZED FOR MEDIUM-SIZED BUSINESSES: Tailored for businesses needing robust security without the infrastructure of larger enterprises.
- RELIABLE CUSTOMER SUPPORT: FortiCare Premium ensures high-quality support and service continuity.
- EFFECTIVE PROTECTION: Employs advanced filtering technologies to safeguard against sophisticated threats.
The same OVHcloud material reports mitigation capacity of up to 1.3 Tbit/s and separately over 17 Tbit/s for global attack filtering. These are distinct provider-published measures; the page does not explain their relationship, and neither figure is an independent comparative benchmark.
Cloudflare: protection in front of an origin or for network services
Cloudflare’s DDoS attack coverage documentation says standard, unmetered protection spanning layers 3–7 is available on Free, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans. The documentation covers TCP, UDP, DNS, and HTTP/S, while excluding SMTP, IMAP, and POP3. Product and onboarding choices determine which layers apply to a particular service; verify coverage rather than assuming every Cloudflare customer receives identical protection.

Cloudflare describes services for web applications, TCP/UDP applications, and networks or data centers, including more advanced protection for particular products or customers. Its marketing page reports 534 Tbps of network capacity, but the inspected passage gives no publication year. That is a Cloudflare claim, not a directly comparable performance test against OVHcloud’s differently described figures.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose protection for your workload
- Identify what must stay online. A WordPress site, a custom TCP/UDP game server, email, and a data-center network do not necessarily use the same protection service or protocols.
- Map the origin and protection layer. Find out whether the provider hosts the service, filters traffic in front of a separate host, or offers both. If an edge service fronts your origin, ask how direct access to the origin is restricted.
- Confirm attack-layer and protocol coverage. Ask specifically about HTTP/S and the TCP or UDP ports your service uses. If email availability matters, verify SMTP, IMAP, and POP3 separately; Cloudflare’s cited documentation explicitly excludes those email protocols from its DDoS Protection coverage.
- Read the commercial terms. Confirm whether mitigation is included, unmetered, or separately charged; whether limits or acceptable-use conditions apply; and whether the terms differ by plan or product.
- Check application-layer configuration. Ask what filtering is enabled by default and what must be configured for your application. A network-layer protection claim does not establish that application-specific attacks will be stopped.
- Verify operational support. Establish what logs and traffic visibility are available, how alerts work, and whether support can help during an active incident.
- Compare current official documentation and pricing. Product names and terms can change. For Kinsta, Liquid Web, Hostinger, Akamai Connected Cloud, and Path.net, verify each of these details from the provider before shortlisting it.
How to interpret capacity claims
Published capacity numbers are not interchangeable measures of protection quality. Cloudflare reports 534 Tbps of network capacity; OVHcloud reports up to 1.3 Tbit/s of mitigation capacity and, separately, over 17 Tbit/s for global attack filtering. The inspected pages do not give a publication year for these figures, and OVHcloud does not explain how its two measures relate. They should be treated as vendor claims, not a head-to-head benchmark or a guarantee that a customer’s service will withstand a particular attack.
Which option fits which need?
- You need hosting with documented included mitigation: OVHcloud is the clearest conventional candidate in the official material reviewed. Check application-specific protection separately.
- You already have an origin host and need an edge layer: Cloudflare may fit, provided the exact product covers your protocol and you configure the origin to prevent bypass.
- You need managed WordPress, budget hosting, specialist game mitigation, or enterprise infrastructure: Kinsta, Hostinger, Path.net, and Akamai Connected Cloud appear as leads for those categories in the April 2026 iTechGuides roundup, but verify current official protection terms before choosing.
- You need managed VPS or dedicated hosting: Liquid Web is a lead from that same roundup; confirm the provider’s current DDoS coverage and service terms directly.
These workload matches identify what to investigate, not verified endorsements. The evidence supports neither an objective five-provider ranking nor a claim that the listed services have equivalent coverage.
