Best DaVinci Resolve Export Settings for Pre-Recorded YouTube Live

For a finished video scheduled as a YouTube Premiere, use YouTube’s upload settings—not live-ingestion bitrates. Here are the Resolve targets and encoder settings for the other workflow.

First decide what you mean by “pre-recorded YouTube Live.” If you want viewers to watch a finished upload together at a scheduled time, use a YouTube Premiere. Export the file with YouTube’s upload recommendations: for 1080p SDR, that means 8 Mbps at 24/25/30 fps or 12 Mbps at 48/50/60 fps. If you want the recording transmitted as an actual live broadcast, send it through a live encoder and use YouTube’s separate live-ingestion settings—not its upload bitrate table.

Premiere or an actual live stream?

These workflows deliver a pre-recorded program to viewers in different ways, so they use different bitrate recommendations.

Decision Uploaded Premiere Encoder-based live stream
How it reaches YouTube Upload a finished video and schedule or publish it as a Premiere. Play the finished recording through an encoder, which sends a live feed to YouTube.
Which bitrate guidance applies? YouTube’s upload recommendations for the rendered file. YouTube’s live-ingestion recommendations for the encoded feed.
1080p H.264 rates 8 Mbps at 24/25/30 fps; 12 Mbps at 48/50/60 fps. 14 Mbps at 30 fps; 17 Mbps at 60 fps.
Scheduled viewing Yes. You can schedule an uploaded video as a Premiere. A scheduled live event requires the encoder to send the broadcast.
Resolution note YouTube’s current Premiere instructions say outputs above 1080p are unsupported. YouTube’s live guide lists resolutions above 1080p, subject to its settings table.

For the Premiere route, follow YouTube’s Premiere instructions. For a broadcast sent by an encoder, use the YouTube live-streaming workflow and live settings below.

DaVinci Resolve settings for an uploaded Premiere

For a standard SDR upload, use these output targets in Resolve. YouTube’s upload recommendations are platform guidance, not mandatory minimums. Resolve’s exact control names and available options can vary by version and operating system, so use the values as targets rather than assuming every installation exposes identical labels.

  • Dell Services: 1 Year Onsite Service provides support when and where you need it. Dell will come to your home, office, or location of choice, if an issue covered by Limited Hardware Warranty cannot be resolved remotely.
  • Container: MP4.
  • Video codec: H.264.
  • Scan: Progressive.
  • Frame rate: Match the recording. YouTube Help states: “Content should be encoded and uploaded in the same frame rate it was recorded.” Don’t convert frame rate just to reach a round number.
  • Resolution: Choose the intended output resolution. For a YouTube Premiere, stay at or below 1080p under YouTube’s current stated limitation.
  • SDR color: BT.709 / Rec. 709.
  • Audio: YouTube’s published upload guidance lists 48 kHz audio and AAC-LC, Opus, or Eclipsa Audio. Its stereo recommendation is 384 kbps. The encoding page notes that documented features are available to partners using YouTube Studio Content Manager; controls may not be available to every account or in every Resolve preset.

Choose the upload bitrate by resolution and frame rate

Use the row matching your output. These are YouTube’s published SDR upload recommendations, accessed in 2026; they apply to the rendered upload file, not a live encoder’s feed.

Output Standard frame rate High frame rate
1080p SDR 8 Mbps (24, 25, or 30 fps) 12 Mbps (48, 50, or 60 fps)
1440p SDR 16 Mbps 24 Mbps
2160p / 4K SDR 35–45 Mbps 53–68 Mbps

YouTube recommends 384 kbps for stereo audio in its upload guidance. For HDR, consult the HDR row for the chosen resolution and frame rate in YouTube’s recommended upload encoding settings; SDR bitrate and color guidance should not be transferred to an HDR export.

Export and schedule the Premiere

  1. In Resolve, set the project’s frame rate and output dimensions to match the source and intended presentation. Avoid an unnecessary frame-rate conversion.
  2. On the Deliver page, select settings corresponding to MP4, H.264, progressive scan, the target resolution and frame rate, and the bitrate from the upload table. Set SDR color to BT.709 / Rec. 709 where the installed version exposes that control; Resolve labels vary.
  3. Render the file, then upload it in YouTube Studio. Allow YouTube to process it before scheduling or publishing it as a Premiere.
  4. In YouTube Studio, follow YouTube’s current instructions to set the video as an instant or scheduled Premiere.

Settings for sending the recording as a live broadcast

If an encoder plays the recording and sends it to YouTube as a live feed, use YouTube’s live-ingestion chart—not the upload table—to configure that feed. The figures below are YouTube’s current published H.264 recommendations:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Live output Recommended H.264 bitrate
1080p30 14 Mbps
1080p60 17 Mbps
1440p30 21 Mbps
1440p60 34 Mbps
2160p30 42 Mbps
2160p60 50 Mbps

YouTube’s live encoder settings guide recommends CBR, a two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds), and RTMPS. Its listed workflow supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1; it lists AAC or MP3 audio and recommends Rec. 709 for SDR. Confirm the settings supported by your chosen encoder and the selected YouTube stream resolution and frame rate.

These rates describe the feed arriving at YouTube. They are not instructions to export the Resolve file at the live CBR rate: a separate playout encoder may decode and re-encode that file. Choose the file export for the actual playback and encoding chain; there is no verified universal Resolve export preset for every encoder workflow.

Check the broadcast before the event

  1. Set the YouTube stream’s resolution and frame rate, then configure the encoder to match and meet the corresponding live H.264 recommendation.
  2. Use CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, with RTMPS where supported by the workflow.
  3. Test a representative section with motion and audio, then monitor YouTube’s stream health as it advises. A still or low-motion test alone may not reveal issues in a busy scene.

Copyright and repeat-content checks

A Premiere or encoder broadcast does not change the underlying rights question: you need the rights or permissions required to use the video and its audio. Check YouTube’s requirements before scheduling content, particularly if it includes music, performances, or material you did not create. YouTube’s live-streaming guide explains the platform workflow and points to its live requirements. Export quality settings do not establish that a video is copyright-safe or eligible for monetization.

Common problems and fixes

  • The Premiere looks soft or pixelated: Check that the export resolution is the one you intended and that the upload bitrate matches the correct resolution and frame-rate row. Allow YouTube processing to finish before judging the available playback quality.
  • The motion looks uneven: Confirm that the render uses the recording’s frame rate. Avoid changing it solely to reach a round number.
  • The live stream is unstable or reports poor health: Check the encoder’s output resolution and frame rate against the selected YouTube stream, then verify the live feed’s bitrate and CBR configuration. Test representative motion and audio and monitor stream health.
  • A keyframe-related warning appears: Set the live encoder’s keyframe interval to two seconds and do not exceed four seconds, in line with YouTube’s live guide.
  • A Resolve option or label is missing: Resolve controls vary with version and operating system. Match the target output values using the controls available in your installation; do not assume every codec, hardware encoder, or color setting is exposed identically.
