Cross-play means players can join from different supported devices; it does not guarantee that every pair of devices works in every game. Epic’s overview frames cross-play across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and mobile platforms, but support is title-specific. Check the game’s platform support before inviting viewers or promising a mixed-device session.

Check the mode and matchmaking pool
A game may support cross-platform play but handle competitive matchmaking differently from private matches or casual modes. Apex is the clearest example in this shortlist: a console-PC party goes into PC matches, which can change the experience for console players. In Rocket League, Epic documents cross-platform matchmaking for online match types and private matches.
Choose a stream format that fits the group

What games are actually PC and Xbox cross-play?
Rocket League’s official support page explicitly includes Steam and Xbox among the platforms that can matchmake together. Apex Legends also lists Xbox and PC platforms as able to party together, with console-PC parties placed into PC matches. For Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Minecraft, confirm the exact current platform and mode combination before setting up a group.
Is cross-platform the same as cross-progression?
No. Cross-platform play concerns playing together across supported devices. It does not, by itself, establish that progress or purchases carry between platforms; check the game’s current account and progression rules separately.
