PS VR2 Sense controllers work with PS VR2 on PC through Sony’s PC Adapter and SteamVR; Quest 3 is an officially supported headset for Steam Link; and Valve Index Controllers are intended for a SteamVR Tracking setup with compatible hardware. They are not interchangeable plug-and-play options.
The practical differences are the connection route, tracking hardware, setup requirements, and which features remain available on PC. This comparison reflects official Sony and Valve documentation checked on October 4, 2026; it is not a hands-on performance test.

These routes are not equivalent: Sony’s PS VR2 setup uses an adapter and a wired DisplayPort connection, Steam Link connects Quest 3 to a PC through the supported headset app, and Index Controllers rely on SteamVR Tracking hardware. Check the game’s controller support or SteamVR bindings before assuming a particular controller maps every action.

PS VR2 Sense is the direct choice if you own a PS VR2 headset and want Sony’s official PC path. Sony’s setup requires the PS VR2 PC Adapter, a DisplayPort 1.4 cable, Steam, SteamVR, the PlayStation VR2 App, and Bluetooth pairing for the controllers. See Sony’s PS VR2 PC setup instructions and PC Adapter manual for the applicable setup steps.

Connection and PC requirements
- Connect the adapter directly to a USB 3.0 port on the computer; Sony warns against connecting it through a USB hub or extension cable.
- Use a DisplayPort 1.4 connection from the adapter to the PC. Sony’s stated minimum PC requirements include Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11 64-bit, 8 GB RAM, an Intel Core i5-7600 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100 (Zen 2 or later), and a compatible GPU.
- Sony recommends an RTX 3060 or later or Radeon RX 6600 XT or later for best performance. These are Sony’s recommendations, not independent benchmark results; check its PC compatibility and requirements announcement for current details before buying or connecting equipment.
- Pair the Sense controllers over Bluetooth. Sony cautions that not all Bluetooth adapters work properly and publishes a tested Bluetooth adapter list; the listed adapters were tested on July 20, 2024, and Sony does not guarantee operation.
What carries over—and what does not
Sony says PS VR2 on PC retains 4K visuals (2000 × 2040 per eye), a 110-degree field of view, finger-touch detection, see-through view, foveated rendering without eye tracking, and 3D Audio in supported games. These are manufacturer-stated capabilities, not independently measured results.
Sony also says HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback beyond rumble are unavailable on PC. The Sense controllers therefore do not provide the full PS5 feature set in PC games.

Adapter price context
Sony announced an estimated launch retail price of $59.99 / €59.99 / £49.99 for the PC Adapter in 2024. That is a historical estimate, not a statement of current stock or street price; verify availability and pricing with a current retailer.

Quest 3 controllers through Steam Link
Valve’s Steam Link support page lists Meta Quest 3 as a supported headset. The documented route requires a computer running Steam and SteamVR, plus the Steam Link app installed on the headset; then follow the app’s on-screen connection instructions. This establishes an official Steam Link path for Quest 3 as a headset, but it does not establish controller-specific PC performance or a detailed feature comparison. Do not infer latency, tracking precision, battery life, or equivalent feature support from headset compatibility alone.
Valve Index Controllers and SteamVR Tracking
Valve lists Index Controllers as compatible with headsets featuring SteamVR Tracking, including Valve Index, HTC Vive, and HTC Vive Pro. Its Index Controllers listing also specifies the need for a compatible headset and SteamVR-tracking base stations. Valve lists a pair of controllers and charging cables in the included contents.

This makes Index Controllers a reasonable option for someone already invested in compatible Lighthouse/SteamVR Tracking hardware, or intentionally building around it. They are not a straightforward universal replacement for the controllers supplied with an inside-out-tracked headset. Valve’s stated compatibility requirements do not establish an officially supported Index-controller pairing with Quest 3 or PS VR2.

SteamVR input bindings can help adapt controls across controller types, but they do not guarantee identical controls or feature support in every game. Valve’s Steamworks documentation on SteamVR application settings describes suggested bindings and rebinding. Before relying on a controller for a particular title, check that game’s controller support information and available SteamVR binding options.
