Start with the settings inside the game you play, choose a control style and button layout you can use reliably, and adjust the stick deadzone only if the game registers unwanted movement. Controller-profile software is a separate settings layer, not a substitute for the game’s own controls.
Start with the game’s own controller settings
Fighting games handle controls differently, so begin in the game’s controller, battle or control settings rather than copying a number from another title. Look for options such as control type, button assignments and stick behavior. Change one setting at a time, then try the moves you use most in practice or training mode before changing anything else.

Street Fighter 6 on PS5
Capcom’s Street Fighter 6 official manual says Battle Settings can be opened from Battle Hub or Fighting Ground. The options you see are specific to the game; they should not be treated as a preset for other fighting games.

Choose the control style and button layout you can execute reliably
Try the control types and layouts available in your game and use the one that lets you perform movement and attacks consistently. There is no substantiated basis here for declaring a D-pad, analog stick or particular button arrangement objectively best for every player. Comfort and dependable execution are more useful guides than a universal recommendation.
#1 Best Overall
- Small Form Factor Fight Stick featuring an 8-button layout and 8ft. cable
- Great for both Arcade and Fighting Games
- Compact, lightweight and portable design
- Features Classic 8-Button Layout and HORI’s Original Joystick with V-cut Housing
- Officially Licensed by Sony
If the game lets you reassign buttons, map frequently used actions where you can reach them comfortably without disrupting the inputs you already execute well. Save or note the original layout first so you can restore it if the change makes play less reliable.
What deadzone means—and how to tune it
A stick deadzone is the range of movement the controller or game ignores. With a larger deadzone, small stick movements are less likely to register; the trade-off is that you must tilt farther before movement begins. PlayStation uses 10% as an explanatory example: the stick must move beyond that range before input registers. That example is not a recommended fighting-game setting.
Rank #2
- High-end pro fight stick for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC
- Opens for easy customization and maintenance
- Replaceable top-panel artwork
- Hayabusa buttons and joystick
- Officially Licensed by Sony
As practical tuning guidance—not a measured universal recommendation—use the smallest deadzone that prevents unwanted movement with your controller in your game. If the character moves when you are not intentionally steering, raise the deadzone in small increments and check again. If movement feels unresponsive, reduce it gradually while watching for unintended inputs to return.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Keep game settings and controller profiles separate
Some controllers offer their own profile settings in addition to each game’s controls. Changing a hardware-level profile does not mean the game’s button assignments or input behavior have changed, so check both layers when troubleshooting. Avoid stacking duplicate or conflicting mappings unless you can verify what each layer is doing.

DualSense Edge on PS5 and Windows PC
PlayStation documents adjustable stick sensitivity and deadzone, button mapping and custom profiles for the DualSense Edge. Its PC setup instructions say PlayStation Accessories can update firmware and customize controller settings and profiles from a Windows PC. PlayStation also provides DualSense Edge customization information.
These are optional configuration features, not evidence that the controller is required or that its settings will improve every player’s results. The documented PC instructions do not establish how every game or other PC input layer, such as Steam Input, will interact with a profile; check the options in your specific game and verify any mapping changes.

What to expect on Xbox and PC
There is no supported universal Xbox fighting-game preset or set of numerical values to recommend here. Xbox options depend on the game and controller, so use the settings exposed by your game and avoid assuming that PlayStation-specific hardware instructions apply to Xbox.
On PC, available settings likewise depend on the game and the controller setup. The documented DualSense Edge customization above applies to that controller’s Windows PC setup; it does not establish universal instructions for other controllers, games or input software.
When a configurable controller is worth considering
A controller with customizable profiles may be useful if you specifically want to adjust stick sensitivity or deadzone, remap buttons, or keep different configurations. For example, the DualSense Edge offers those documented features. Treat that as an optional hardware choice: the basic first step remains configuring the controls available in your game. A fight pad may suit players who prefer dedicated fighting-game controls, but confirm its compatibility with your platform before buying; no particular model is established here.
