There is no officially verified “best” sensitivity preset for Gears of War: E-Day. The game documents separate controls for camera movement, aiming, scopes, acceleration, dead zones, and aim assist, but publishes no recommended numeric values. Start from the game’s defaults, then adjust one control at a time in a repeatable situation until tracking and target changes feel consistent.
Which controller settings should you change first?
Keep the setting you are changing tied to the problem you are trying to solve. E-Day separates ordinary camera movement from aiming and scoped aiming, so changing all the sensitivity sliders together makes it harder to tell what helped.

| Setting | What it affects | When to adjust it |
|---|---|---|
| Horizontal/Vertical Look Sensitivity | Camera movement when you are not aiming. | Adjust if turning to look around or beginning a target transition feels too slow or too fast. |
| Horizontal/Vertical Target Sensitivity | Movement while aiming. | Adjust if you have trouble tracking a target or making small corrections while aiming. |
| Horizontal/Vertical Scope Sensitivity | Aim movement while using a scope. | Adjust separately if scoped tracking or corrections feel different from ordinary aiming. |
| Aim Acceleration | The strength of stick aim acceleration. | Change it if stick response as you move the stick farther does not feel predictable. It is a separate control from sensitivity. |
| Right-stick inner dead zone | How far the stick must move before camera movement begins. | If the camera drifts when you are not touching the stick, increase it gradually. This may reduce unwanted small inputs, but requires more stick movement before the camera responds. |
| Inner and outer dead zones | Dead-zone behavior for the left and right sticks. | Use these to adjust stick response; avoid assuming that a particular numeric value is right for every controller. |
The official controls guide lists horizontal and vertical Look, Target, and Scope sensitivity as separate options, as well as aim acceleration and inner and outer dead zones for both sticks. It does not specify an ideal value for any of them (Gears of War Support).

How to find a comfortable sensitivity
- Choose a familiar control scheme. Use the default scheme as a baseline if you are unsure. The documented options are Default, Modern, Modern Alt, Legacy, and Legacy Alt. The Coalition describes Modern as closer to other current shooters and Legacy as closer to classic Gears controls.
- Use the game’s default values first. The official guide does not publish a numeric “best” setup, so treat the default as a starting point rather than a proven optimal preset.
- Pick one repeatable practice situation. Use the same weapon and similar target movement while you compare settings. Change one category at a time so you can identify whether Look, Target, Scope, acceleration, or a dead zone made the difference.
- Fix the specific response that feels wrong. Change Look for free camera turns, Target for aiming-down-sights tracking, and Scope for scoped movement. If the camera moves without intentional input, adjust the right-stick inner dead zone gradually instead of trying to fix drift with sensitivity.
- Keep the result that feels consistent. A useful setting should let you track a moving target and transition to another without repeated overshooting or struggling to catch up. Your preferred values may vary with weapon, mode, and controller.
This is a practical tuning method based on the documented controls, not a tested E-Day sensitivity recipe. The available official sources do not establish whether Campaign, Versus, and Horde Siege need different values.

What each aim-assist option does
Aim assist is not just another sensitivity setting. E-Day documents four choices with different behaviors:
| Option | Documented behavior |
|---|---|
| Off | Disables aim assist. |
| Default | Enables per-weapon aim-assist features. |
| Snap Aim | Briefly snaps the reticle to the closest valid nearby enemy. |
| Lock-on Aiming | While aiming, holds the reticle to the closest valid enemy. Flicking left or right can switch to another valid target when available. |
The target-lock audio cue requires Lock-on Aim. The guide explains what the modes do but does not identify one as strongest, fairest, or best for competitive play. Choose according to your preference, accessibility needs, and the mode you play.

Why familiar Gears settings may feel different
The Coalition says E-Day was built from scratch and describes its shooting as different from earlier entries. Its July 31, 2026 gameplay update says projectiles have simulated ballistics and travel time, so players may need to lead targets beyond a weapon’s range; players can shoulder-swap while aiming; scoped weapons have sway; and some automatic weapons reward short bursts because of recoil changes (The Coalition’s gameplay update). These are official design descriptions, not independent tests of controller performance.

Aiming also takes place within a cover-and-movement game. The same update describes rebuilt cover, a new slide, jump and climb actions, and changes to cover commitment and movement momentum. If a setting feels comfortable with one weapon or in one situation, that does not establish it as ideal across every weapon or mode.
