For a creator who can configure an encoder or delivery pipeline, Backblaze B2 is a cost-conscious object-storage option; Google Cloud Storage is a stronger fit when storage, processing and CDN delivery are being designed together. Neither one runs a 24/7 YouTube stream by itself: storage holds video files, while a separate encoder or streaming service sends the live feed. The right choice depends on how much you store, how often files are read, where delivery happens and whether a CDN is involved.
Storage and 24/7 YouTube playout are different jobs
A cloud storage bucket can hold master recordings and loop-ready video files. It does not, just by holding them, create a continuous live program or send one to YouTube. You still need a configured encoder or streaming service to read the files and send the stream to YouTube using its Live server URL and stream key.

That distinction matters when comparing providers. A low storage rate does not necessarily mean a low-cost or reliable live-video setup: outgoing reads, network routes, processing, caching and the playout service all affect the total system.

Which cloud storage fits your workflow?
| Option | Best fit | Important trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Backblaze B2 | Active object storage for a creator or team willing to configure the tools that read and deliver the files. | It is storage, not a complete YouTube playout service. Model stored volume, outgoing reads and transfer routes. Its S3-compatible service has a published egress allowance. |
| Google Cloud Storage | A managed media workflow that combines storage with processing and CDN delivery. | Costs vary with storage, region, processing, network use and optional caching. Google’s media guidance recommends a CDN for customer reads in content-serving workloads. |
| Wasabi | Video object storage when the actual egress pattern fits the vendor’s pricing assumptions, potentially with CDN caching. | Wasabi cautions that its pricing model is not suitable when video egress exceeds the amount stored. Check its current minimum-duration and other terms before choosing. |
| Google Drive for desktop | Personal or collaborative file access where desktop streaming or mirroring is the main requirement. | Google says mirroring is faster for work involving extensive writing, video editing or high-resolution photo editing. The available guidance does not establish Drive as an unattended, resilient 24/7 YouTube playout system. |
How to compare the real monthly cost
Start with the workload, not the advertised storage rate. Estimate the volume of master and loop-ready files you will retain, how much data the playout system will read, the delivery region and whether a CDN can cache repeated requests. Include request, processing, network and caching charges where applicable. A popular video delivered continuously can generate far more read traffic than its stored size suggests.

Backblaze B2 pricing to model
Backblaze’s official pricing page listed a starting price of $6.95 per TB per month in 2026, with free egress up to three times average monthly stored data and $0.01 per GB above that threshold, except for eligible partner routes. Rates, regions and eligible routes can change, so confirm the current terms and calculate your own storage and transfer pattern before budgeting.
Google Cloud Storage and CDN costs
Google identifies streaming video as a standard-storage use case, but storage is only one part of the bill. Its media guidance recommends routing customer reads through a CDN; caching can reduce latency, improve bandwidth efficiency and lower delivery costs. Price the whole path—including storage, processing, network use and optional caching—rather than comparing per-terabyte storage prices alone.

- Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance mean this tough drive can take a beating(3) (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)
- Use the handy carabiner loop to secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind.

- Easily manage files and automatically free up space with the SanDisk Memory Zone app.(5). Non-Operating Temperature -20°C to 85°C
Check Wasabi’s egress assumption
Wasabi explicitly cautions against video hosting when egress downloads exceed the amount stored under its pricing model. If viewers or a playout system repeatedly fetch the same files, evaluate CDN caching and verify the current service terms before committing.

Set up storage and a separate YouTube playout path
- Choose where the source files live. Keep master recordings and loop-ready copies in storage suited to how your team accesses them. Decide what should remain in the cloud and what also needs a local safety copy.
- Configure a playout encoder or streaming service. Point it at the files in storage and configure it to send the live feed to YouTube. In YouTube’s encoder workflow, use the Live server URL and stream key shown for the stream. Treat the key as a secret; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Add a CDN when the delivery workload calls for it. For a cloud-bucket system serving video reads to viewers or other delivery clients, put a CDN in front of the bucket and configure caching for the files. This is particularly relevant when repeated reads would otherwise return to the storage origin.
- Monitor the feed and the backup. Monitor stream audio and video quality, and verify that any local archive file is growing. Keep a separate local recording archive: YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube’s advice is: “We recommend recording a local archive as a backup.”
Or let it run in the cloud
If your main need is keeping uploaded videos live on YouTube rather than building your own storage-to-encoder pipeline, StreamNeo is the first option to consider: it keeps an always-on YouTube stream running from the cloud, with any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot and a free first day.

- Plug-and-play expandability
- SuperSpeed USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps)
- Upload a recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud.
Your computer and home connection do not need to stay on, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; the Monthly price is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free first day.

Cloud storage for playout and a local archive protect against different problems. The cloud copy supplies files to the configured delivery workflow; a local recording gives you an independent copy of the live program. Because YouTube may not capture streams longer than 12 hours as an archive, do not rely on the platform’s automatic archive as the sole record of a continuous feed. Confirm that the local recording is being written and that the file continues to grow during the broadcast.
