The best cloud-based recording software depends on what you are making: choose Riverside or StreamYard for remote guest recordings, StreamYard for a branded live show, Zoom for meeting capture, and Loom for solo screen tutorials. These tools solve different jobs, so compare how they capture participant tracks, keep recordings, and support editing rather than treating them as interchangeable studios.
Choose software by the recording job
| Workflow | Options covered here | What to compare |
|---|---|---|
| Remote interview or video podcast | Riverside, StreamYard | Separate participant tracks, local capture and cloud upload, guest access, editing, clips, and publishing. |

| Meeting recording | Zoom | Recording layouts, captured audio/video/chat, storage controls, and account and client prerequisites. |
| Solo screen tutorial | Loom | Screen and camera capture, transcription, editing, sharing, and current tier limits. |
The feature descriptions below come from vendor and support pages, not a measured head-to-head test. They establish listed capabilities, not comparative recording quality, reliability under every network condition, ease of use, or independent user satisfaction.
Remote guest interviews and video podcasts
Riverside
Riverside describes recording each participant locally while uploading the recording to the cloud. Its product overview also describes text-based editing, clips, and streaming. Its pricing page lists separate audio and video tracks, single-track recording and editing, publishing destinations, hosting, and automatic cloud backups; available features vary by plan. Check the current plan details at Riverside pricing before choosing based on a specific entitlement. The product overview is at Riverside.
StreamYard
StreamYard says it works in a browser and that guests do not need to download an app. Participants record separate audio and video files on their own devices, which upload in the background, while a cloud recording is also created. Its recording page explains this workflow. The pricing page lists cloud recording; for the displayed Advanced plan, it lists 4K local recordings and multistreaming to eight destinations. Plan entitlements and prices can change, and StreamYard notes that prices may vary with promotions, seasonal deals, renewal terms, and custom offers.

How to choose between them
- Prioritize separate participant files if you expect to adjust each speaker’s audio or video independently in post-production.
- Check how the service handles local capture and background uploads, as well as whether a cloud copy is created; these are distinct parts of the recording workflow.
- Consider guest onboarding and the editing path: Riverside lists text-based editing and clips, while StreamYard describes browser access without a guest download.
- Check the current plan page for track limits, publishing or hosting features, and any restrictions that matter to your production.
Branded live shows: StreamYard
A live show has different needs from a recording-only interview: studio controls and destinations matter alongside the saved recording. StreamYard’s pricing page lists cloud recording and, for the displayed Advanced plan, multistreaming to eight destinations and 4K local recordings. Verify current plan, participant, resolution, and usage-policy details directly on StreamYard’s pricing page; those details are subject to change.
Meeting capture: Zoom
Zoom’s support documentation says cloud recordings can include meeting video, audio, and chat text. It documents layouts including active speaker, gallery view, and shared screen, plus configurable storage options. The same article names supported desktop clients and minimum versions, so check the current requirements for your account and device before relying on a recording workflow: Zoom Support: Starting a cloud recording.

Loom notes that some feature access differs between subscriptions through Atlassian.com and subscriptions through Loom, so compare the relevant signup route and tier on Loom pricing.

Where StreamNeo fits—and where it does not
StreamNeo is not a cloud video recording studio for capturing a camera, remote guests, meetings, or screen tutorials. It is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping a channel live around the clock from videos you upload. If the work is a prerecorded-video YouTube stream rather than recording new footage, it can be a separate part of the workflow: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so your computer does not need to stay on. Each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team. The uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, with one flat price per slot and no quality tiers. See StreamNeo.
