For The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, start with Cemu’s defaults and use Auto / Multi-core recompiler for CPU mode. The Cemu Wiki rates the game “Perfect” and says it “does not require non-default settings to run properly.” If you use Vulkan, enable Async Compile; treat performance and resolution graphic packs as optional adjustments for a specific need, not required fixes.

Cemu’s general Performance Guide recommends Vulkan and async shader compilation. The Wind Waker HD game page makes a narrower, game-specific point: enable Async Compile when you are using Vulkan. Do not interpret that as a requirement to switch APIs or change every graphics option if your current setup is working.

On a system with more than one GPU, such as a laptop with integrated and dedicated graphics, the general guide advises selecting the most powerful GPU for Cemu. Which API is available and performs well depends on the graphics hardware, drivers, operating system, and Cemu version; the cited guidance does not establish one best choice for every setup.
Optional graphic packs: performance or higher resolution
If the game slows down
The game-specific page says a performance graphic pack may help with in-game slowdowns. It is optional, so first establish whether the default configuration runs acceptably. If you do try the pack, change one thing at a time so you can tell whether it addresses the symptom.

If you want a sharper image
Cemu’s community graphic-pack project includes a resolution pack for Wind Waker HD. Use Cemu’s in-app community graphic-pack downloader to find and select an appropriate resolution option. Higher output resolution can demand more from the graphics hardware, so choose a level suited to your display and system rather than assuming the highest option is cost-free. The available sources establish that resolution enhancement exists, but do not provide game-specific hardware benchmarks or a guaranteed performance impact.

The general Performance Guide is useful context, but its recommendations are not a Wind Waker HD-specific test. It recommends VSync set to “Match emulated display (Experimental)” on Windows and “Double buffering” on macOS or Linux. For audio, it recommends XAudio2 on Windows and Cubeb on macOS or Linux.

Cemu’s general requirements list 64-bit Windows 7 or later, Linux, or macOS; a graphics card that supports OpenGL 4.5 or Vulkan 1.1; and 4 GB RAM minimum, with 8 GB or more recommended. The guide cautions that requirements vary by game. These thresholds do not promise a particular result for this title or account for every current driver and hardware combination.
Troubleshooting without over-tweaking
The game page includes older troubleshooting notes, including a CPU-profile workaround for some cases where light must be reflected. That is not a universal setting. Only consider it if that specific symptom occurs, and check whether the note still applies to your Cemu version and game region before changing the profile. If you do not have that issue, keep the recommended CPU mode.

If performance or graphics are not as expected, use a simple sequence: verify that Cemu is using the intended GPU, confirm the selected graphics API is supported, then test only the optional pack or setting relevant to the problem. Avoid stacking unrelated tweaks based on a different system’s configuration.

The Cemu game page notes that Wii U Pro Controller can be selected in-game, and Nintendo’s manual documents Wii U controller settings. This is an optional play mode, not a prerequisite for the recommended emulator settings. The cited material does not establish the current availability, price, or compatibility of any particular retail controller listing.
