Neither is a tested winner: the right choice depends on your recording mode, streaming setup, room, lens and budget. For polished results, plan for lighting and framing as carefully as the camera—and use a microphone placed near each speaker rather than relying on the camera’s built-in mic.
What matters most in a video-podcast camera?
A camera body is only one part of the picture. The lens determines how wide a view you can capture from your available distance, while lighting, framing and focus affect how the host looks on screen. Spoken-word sound depends heavily on microphone placement and room acoustics. A compatible external microphone positioned close to each speaker is usually a better starting point than relying on a camera’s built-in microphone; monitor the sound when practical.

- Recording mode: Check frame rate and crop together. A crop narrows the field of view, which can make a close camera position harder to work with.
- Audio connections: Confirm the camera accepts your microphone and lets you monitor sound through headphones.
- Streaming route: USB, network streaming, UVC and HDMI capture are different workflows. Choose one compatible with your computer and platform.
- Long-session setup: Plan for stable support, power and storage. Card-speed requirements can vary by recording mode.

Which camera should you use to record a video podcast?
Choose the Sony ZV-E10 II if its recording and streaming modes fit
The Sony is a plausible choice when you want the option of internal 4K recording up to 59.94p and its USB or network streaming routes match your setup. Since Sony notes a crop at 4K60 in its US product material, check how that mode frames your shot—particularly if the camera will sit close to the host. A suitable lens still matters: the body alone cannot guarantee a comfortable angle of view in your room.

Choose the Canon EOS R50 V if its video and computer connections fit
The Canon offers oversampled 4K through 29.97p and a separate cropped 4K option through 59.94p. If you need the higher frame rate, account for the crop when positioning the camera and choosing a lens. For computer use, its listed UVC and clean HDMI routes may suit different workflows; USB live streaming through the listed terminal is not supported, so do not assume it works like a direct USB webcam.
Can you use a mirrorless camera as a podcast webcam?
Yes, if its computer connection supports the workflow you want and your software is compatible. The Sony lists USB and network streaming options. The Canon lists UVC access through compatible computer software, plus clean HDMI for a separate capture-device workflow; Canon does not support USB live streaming through the listed USB terminal. Check the manufacturer’s current regional specifications and your software’s requirements before buying. These connections do not remove the need to arrange power, audio and a stable camera position for a live session.

Do you need 4K for a video podcast?
Not necessarily. Both cameras offer 4K options, but resolution alone does not determine whether a podcast looks good. Lighting, lens choice, framing and focus all matter, and the Sony and Canon differ in which 4K frame rates are cropped. Choose a mode based on your intended delivery and editing workflow, then confirm its crop, card-speed requirements and other limits in the current manual. Canon lists card-speed requirements that vary by recording mode, so match the card to the mode you plan to record.
What else should you plan for?
- Lens and distance: Check that a compatible lens can frame the number of speakers from the camera’s planned position. A cramped room may make a narrower view difficult to manage.
- Microphone and monitoring: Select an external mic for your speaker count, room and placement. Both candidates list microphone and headphone connections; Sony also documents digital audio support through its Multi Interface Shoe, and Canon lists digital mic input at its Multi-function Shoe.
- Support and session power: Use stable tripod or desk support. For long recordings, check the exact camera’s current manual for power options and recording limits rather than assuming a particular accessory or runtime.
- Storage: Choose a card that meets the speed requirement for the selected mode, not just one that fits the camera.
What about the Panasonic LUMIX G100D?
Panasonic’s official page lists MP4 video recording, USB-C, micro HDMI and a built-in stereo microphone for the LUMIX G100D. The available product information does not establish enough comparable detail here on frame rates, streaming options and external-audio connections to assess it alongside the Sony and Canon. Check Panasonic’s features and specifications if you are considering it.
