Choose Firefox if Android add-ons matter, Brave if you want built-in ad blocking enabled by default, Samsung Browser for Galaxy-oriented features, Edge for Microsoft account continuity, or Chrome for Google ecosystem familiarity. These are feature-based recommendations, not a ranking by independently measured speed or privacy protection.
Which Android browser fits your priorities?
| Your priority | Browser to consider | What the evidence supports |
|---|---|---|
| Android extensions | Firefox | Mozilla documents an add-ons manager for Firefox on Android, but compatibility varies by add-on. |
| Ad blocking enabled by default | Brave | Brave says its Android browser blocks ads by default. Performance and battery advantages are vendor claims, not independent test results. |
| Galaxy integration and Secret Mode | Samsung Browser | Samsung documents Galaxy-oriented integration and Secret Mode. Content-blocking filters require separate apps. |
| Microsoft account continuity and Copilot | Edge | Microsoft lists mobile sync for tabs, favorites, and passwords, along with Copilot and InPrivate. Feature availability may vary by operating system and market. |
| Google continuity and familiar defaults | Chrome | Google provides instructions for setting Chrome as Android’s default browser and lists Chrome sync resources. |
What to know about each browser
Firefox: consider it when add-ons matter
Firefox is the clearest option in this group for someone who wants to install browser add-ons on Android. Mozilla documents the add-ons manager, but warns that compatibility is not universal: “Some add-ons extensions may not be compatible with Firefox for Android.” The support article, attributed to Mozilla contributors, was last updated May 28, 2024. Check whether the specific add-on you rely on is supported before switching.

Brave: consider it for default ad blocking
Brave says its Android browser blocks ads by default and is based on Chromium. That makes it a reasonable choice if you want blocking without first installing a separate browser extension. Brave also promotes speed and energy benefits, but those are the company’s claims; the cited information is not an independent Android benchmark.

Samsung Browser: consider it for Galaxy features
Samsung documents Galaxy-oriented integration and Secret Mode in Samsung Browser. Its developer documentation also clarifies that content-blocking filters are supplied through separate apps, rather than being a filter capability that should be assumed to work without additional installation.

Edge: consider it for Microsoft account continuity
Microsoft lists mobile sync for tabs, favorites, and passwords, as well as Copilot and InPrivate. Its product page cautions: “Feature availability and functionality may vary by device type, market, and browser version.” Extension availability also varies by operating system, so confirm that the extensions you need work on your Android device.

How to choose without a misleading speed ranking
The available official feature documentation supports comparisons of what these browsers offer, but it does not establish which one is objectively fastest or provides the strongest privacy protection on Android. A fair head-to-head performance comparison would need the same phone, Android version, browser versions, websites, and network conditions. No such current independent comparison is established here, so treat speed and privacy rankings elsewhere with care, particularly when they rely on vendor claims or undisclosed testing.
Browser engines are another reason not to treat the names as entirely separate technical platforms. The UK Competition and Markets Authority’s 2023 report said more than 95% of Android browser vendors in the set it examined used a version of Blink, with Firefox’s Gecko as an exception. That is a historical regulatory assessment, not a current market-share measurement or a 2026 performance test.
