PriceTrackr is the clearest fit among the reviewed extensions if you want to manually select a competitor’s displayed price or offer to track. But the reviewed product pages do not establish that these extensions automatically save dated screenshots. For screenshot evidence, capture the page separately at each check and record its URL and capture time alongside the image.
Which extension fits manual competitor price tracking?
Choose based on how you want prices identified. PriceTrackr describes a workflow where you visit a product page and select the exact price, offer, or other page element. Price Observatory is designed to overlay competitor data already matched to products in a monitoring catalog. Neither reviewed description confirms automatic screenshot storage.

The Chrome Web Store listing requires an active subscription and the API option enabled. | No. The reviewed listing does not confirm screenshot saving. |

Its stated emphasis is shopping prices, not business competitor intelligence. | No. The reviewed listing does not confirm screenshot saving. |
PriceTrackr: choose the exact displayed element
PriceTrackr’s Chrome Web Store description says you can open a competitor or product page, select the price, offer, or element to follow, and receive a notification if it changes. That makes it the most directly aligned option in this shortlist for manual selection. The listing reviewed on October 3, 2026 showed version 1.4.5, updated June 30, 2026, five users, and no ratings; these are changeable store details, not evidence of accuracy or reliability. Its performance was not independently tested.

Price Observatory: browse data from a matched catalog
Price Observatory is a better match if you already use, or are considering, a broader monitoring catalog and want its matched competitor data visible while browsing. The company says its extension overlays matched competitor prices, price positioning, and price history, with sign-in through an existing account. The Chrome Web Store listing reviewed on October 3, 2026 showed version 3.02, updated June 25, 2026, and required an active subscription with the API option enabled. Its listing disclosed user activity.
The vendor’s feature page claims coverage of more than 6,000 monitored sites in more than 70 countries. This is an undated vendor claim, not an independent measurement; check current coverage and matching for the retailers and regions you need. The company lists Chrome and Chromium-based compatibility, including Edge, Brave, and Opera. The extension’s listing does not establish that it saves screenshots.

Universal Price Tracker: consumer-focused, not a direct business substitute
The store listing for Universal Price Tracker / Universal Price Alert describes price history, notifications, templates, and manual price-element selection, but frames the use case around following shopping prices and getting price-drop alerts. It is not a strong direct competitor-monitoring choice on the reviewed evidence. The listing reviewed on October 3, 2026 showed version 5.0.4, updated August 11, 2026, and disclosed use of affiliate links for some product recommendations as well as handling web history and website content.
What these extensions do—and do not—prove about screenshots
Price extraction, a chart, or a notification is not the same as retaining dated visual evidence. The reviewed competitor-focused product pages describe selection, matching, history, or overlays; they do not confirm that the extensions automatically capture and archive screenshots. Unless a vendor confirms that capability for your setup, treat screenshot capture as a separate step.

A screenshot records what was visible at a particular moment, but it is easiest to interpret when paired with structured notes. Keep the image and a separate record containing the full product URL, capture date and time with time zone, product name and variant, displayed price and currency, promotion wording, and stock status if relevant. Note region, shipping, and tax treatment when they affect the displayed amount. These are documentation practices, not claimed features of the listed extensions.
A repeatable manual workflow for screenshot evidence
- Open the exact product page. Use the same retailer, product variant, region, and logged-in state for each observation where possible. Record the full URL rather than relying on a bookmark or product title alone.
- Use the extension for its stated purpose. With PriceTrackr, select the specific displayed price, offer, or element you want to follow. With Price Observatory, sign in to the existing account and inspect the matched catalog data; its Chrome Web Store listing says the API option must be enabled.
- Capture the page separately. Take a browser screenshot when the relevant price and surrounding product context are visible. Include enough of the page to identify the retailer, product, variant, and offer. The reviewed extension pages do not establish automatic dated screenshot capture.
- Record the observation in a table or log. Store the screenshot filename or link next to the URL, capture time and time zone, product variant, price, currency, discount language, stock state, region, and relevant shipping or tax details.
- Repeat under consistent conditions. Keep browser zoom and page framing readable and comparable. If the page, variant, region, or account state changes, note it rather than treating the resulting price as a like-for-like observation.
Chrome Shopping Insights is for shopping, not a competitor archive
Google’s Shopping Insights and price tracking in Chrome help page describes price history and price range for products, including variants, plus saving products and tracking price changes. The documented availability prerequisites are living in Australia, Canada, India, Japan, or the US; signing in to Chrome with a Google Account; opting into tab/history sync; and enabling “Make searches and browsing better.” Google describes this as a way to follow products you want to buy—not as a competitor catalog or a dated screenshot archive.

Privacy and reliability checks before relying on an extension
- Check the current permissions and privacy disclosure. Store data-handling disclosures are the developers’ statements, not independent security audits. The reviewed disclosures include user activity and website content for some options, and PriceTrackr also disclosed personally identifiable and authentication information.
- Test your actual pages and variants. The reviewed material does not establish accuracy across all retailers, product variants, or page changes. Verify that the intended page is accessible and that the selected or matched price is the one you mean.
- Separate a changed price from a changed context. Currency, region, stock, logged-in state, variant, shipping, tax, and promotion terms can alter what is displayed. Record differences rather than assuming they are comparable observations.
- Check account and browser prerequisites. Price Observatory requires an existing account and, according to its Chrome Web Store listing, an active subscription with the API option enabled. Its vendor page names Chrome and Chromium-based browsers including Edge, Brave, and Opera; confirm present compatibility before deployment.
- Do not treat a store listing as a performance test. No controlled accuracy or effectiveness comparison is established here. Check behavior on the stores and browser you intend to use before basing decisions on the data.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a capture API rather than a manual extension workflow, ScreenshotNeo is the alternative to try first: it removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture, bills only clean shots, and has an MCP server for AI agents. Its one-call request returns an image or PDF; see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameters and response details.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webpFor manual competitor records, substitute the product page URL you are authorized to capture. ScreenshotNeo says bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed; it offers 1,000 screenshots a month free with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. The API can capture a page, but keep the product URL, time, currency, variant, and other comparison notes in your own log.
