Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor an iPhone or iPad, the best-supported pick here is Apple AirTag (2nd generation); for a compatible Samsung Galaxy device, it is Galaxy SmartTag2. Neither is a universal tracker, and neither is a standalone GPS locator. Your phone ecosystem determines which finding network and setup you can use; Bluetooth range only describes a nearby connection, while finding a tag farther away depends on compatible devices detecting it.
Which tracker should you choose?
- Choose AirTag (2nd generation) if you use a compatible Apple device and want Apple’s proximity and Precision Finding features. Apple’s UK support specifications list an Apple Account and an iPhone running iOS 26.2.1 or later, or an iPad running iPadOS 26.1 or later. Check current requirements for your country and device before buying.
- Choose Galaxy SmartTag2 if you use a compatible Galaxy device and can set it up with a Samsung Account and SmartThings Find. Samsung’s setup requirements also include opting in to SmartThings Find.
- Do not choose by advertised range alone. A tracker’s Bluetooth connection is useful when you are nearby. Away from that connection, a location update depends on the relevant finding network and compatible devices coming within range.
AirTag 2 and Galaxy SmartTag2 compared
| Feature | Apple AirTag (2nd generation) | Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 |
|---|---|---|
| Phone and setup | Apple Account; iPhone with iOS 26.2.1 or later, or iPad with iPadOS 26.1 or later, according to Apple’s UK support page. | Compatible Galaxy device, Samsung Account, and SmartThings Find opt-in, according to Samsung’s setup notes. |
| Nearby finding | Bluetooth, second-generation Apple Ultra Wideband chip, and expanded Precision Finding connectivity. Precision Finding depends on supported paired devices and region. | Bluetooth LE 5.3 and UWB. Samsung claims Bluetooth range up to 120 m when there are no obstacles. |
| Finding when out of Bluetooth range | Depends on Apple’s finding network and compatible devices nearby; not GPS. | Uses the Galaxy Find Network. Samsung says accuracy depends on opt-in Galaxy users being within range; not GPS. |
| Battery | User-replaceable CR2032 coin cell. | Replaceable CR2032 coin cell. Samsung estimates up to 500 days under typical use; actual life can vary. |
| Water and dust resistance | IP67. | IP67. |
| Size and weight | 31.9 mm diameter, 8.0 mm high, 11.8 g, per Apple’s UK support specification. | Not stated in the cited Samsung information. |
| Sound | Not stated in the cited Apple specification. | Built-in buzzer. |
These are manufacturer specifications, not a controlled comparison of real-world finding speed, reliability, or network coverage. The AirTag measurements and requirements above are from Apple’s UK support page; regional specifications and compatibility can differ. Samsung’s stated 120 m is an unobstructed maximum, not a guaranteed everyday range.

What matters more than Bluetooth range
Phone compatibility and the finding network
A tag can communicate directly with your phone only when it is within Bluetooth reach. If it is somewhere else, remote updates rely on compatible devices in the product’s network passing near it. That means performance away from your phone depends on whether participating devices are nearby; the tag does not independently report its position like a GPS locator.

Samsung explicitly describes Galaxy Find as relying on opt-in Galaxy users within range. Apple’s cited product specifications identify Apple network-based finding features, but the available evidence does not establish a head-to-head measure of either network’s size or reliability. Do not assume that one will provide better coverage everywhere.

- 2-Year Battery Life & Child-Safe Certified: The UGREEN 4-pack Bluetooth tracker tags feature a replaceable battery that lasts up to 2 years, outperforming standard 1-year trackers. - Your Privacy, Fully Protected: Certified by Apple MFi, this Bluetooth Air Tracker Tag uses end-to-end encryption to keep your location data private and secure. All communications are anonymous and encrypted, and no location data is stored on the device. Even if your item is lost, your information remains protected and cannot be accessed without your permission — not by Apple, the manufacturer, or any third party.
Precision finding and supported devices
AirTag 2 includes a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip and expanded Precision Finding connectivity, but availability depends on the paired device and region. SmartTag2 also includes UWB. The presence of UWB does not mean every phone can use precision directions: confirm support for your exact device and market before purchasing.
Attachment, battery, and durability
Both products use replaceable CR2032 coin cells and carry an IP67 rating. Their shape and how they attach still matter: plan to use a suitable holder or case when a tag needs to fasten to a key ring or bag. Check accessory fit for the exact tracker generation. IP67 is a protection rating, not a reason to treat a tracker as permanently waterproof or indestructible.

What about Tile, Chipolo, and other trackers?
Tile and Chipolo are common names in Bluetooth-tracker comparisons, but a useful recommendation requires current, model-specific evidence: compatible phones, finding-network behavior, precision-finding support, battery type, water resistance, and whether useful features require a paid plan. Those specifications are not established here, so they cannot be ranked fairly against the two products above. Verify the current official page for the exact model rather than relying on a brand name or an older comparison.

Choose by what you are tagging
- Keys: Pick the tracker that works with your phone first, then confirm how it attaches to a key ring. If you are in a quiet place, a built-in sound can help; SmartTag2’s cited specification includes a buzzer.
- Luggage: Consider attachment security and the finding network available where you travel. A Bluetooth tracker can help locate an item when compatible devices detect it, but it is not continuous GPS tracking and cannot guarantee a location update.
- A wallet: Check the tracker’s physical dimensions and thickness against the wallet’s pockets. AirTag 2’s cited dimensions are 31.9 mm across and 8.0 mm high; the cited Samsung information does not provide SmartTag2 dimensions.
Before you buy
- Identify the phone and operating-system version you will use, then confirm the tracker’s current regional compatibility requirements.
- Check whether setup requires an account, an enabled finding service, or an opt-in setting.
- Confirm that the nearby-finding features you want work with your specific phone; UWB hardware alone does not establish device support.
- Choose an attachment method that fits the item, and verify that any holder or case is made for the exact generation.
- Consider battery replacement and water exposure. Both products listed here have replaceable CR2032 cells and IP67 ratings; SmartTag2’s estimated battery life is a manufacturer estimate under typical use, not a guarantee.
- Recheck regional availability, operating-system requirements, and compatibility before ordering because these details can change.
