Choose a bitrate for the codec, resolution and frame rate you send to YouTube, then test that your upload connection can sustain it. For 1080p at 30 fps, YouTube recommends 14 Mbps for H.264 or 10 Mbps for AV1 or H.265.
Choose a bitrate for your actual live signal
Use the row that matches the video signal being sent to YouTube—not a separate file export or upload setting. YouTube’s values below are live-ingestion recommendations and minimums, in Mbps. A recommended value is not a platform minimum or a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming.

| 2160p (4K) at 30 fps | 8 | 30 | 11 | 42 |

| 360p at 30 fps | 0.3 | 3 | 0.4 | 4 |
These are YouTube’s published live-encoder settings; check YouTube’s current encoder guidance because platform settings can change. Its separate video upload encoding recommendations are for uploads, not live ingestion.
How to select a setting for continuous playback
1. Match the resolution and frame rate
Decide what you will actually send. A 1080p30 signal should use the 1080p30 row even if the source file was exported at a different resolution or frame rate. Higher resolution and frame rate generally call for more upload capacity at the recommended setting.
#1 Best Overall
- 40 Gbps 2000 Mhz High Speed: The Cat 8 ethernet cable support max. 40 Gbps data transfer and 2000 MHz Brandwith, ideal for gaming and streaming, greatly improving upload and download speed, sound, image and resolution quality
- Excellent Anti-interference: The ethernet cable comes with 4 shielded foiled twisted pairs (F/FTP), pure copper core and gold-plated RJ45 connector, reducing interference, noise and crosstalk, making network speed faster and more stable
- Marvelous Durability: Internet cable wrapped with quality cotton braided cord, which makes the LAN cable stronger and more durable. The test proves that this internet cable can be bent at least 10000 times without broken, very suitable for long-term use
- PoE Supported: All lengths of ethernet cord can support the PoE power supply function except 65ft. You don't need additional power supply when installing a PoE camera, which is very convenient and safe
- Wide Compatibility: With the RJ45 Connector, network cable can be perfectly compatible with computers, laptops, modems, routers, PS5, X-Box and other networking devices. It can also be fully backward compatible with Cat7, Cat6e, Cat6, Cat5e, Cat5
2. Match the codec
Use the column for the codec sent to YouTube. For example, at 1080p30, the recommended rate is 14 Mbps for H.264 and 10 Mbps for AV1 or H.265. Do not apply one codec’s bitrate to another codec as though the numbers were interchangeable.
3. Set the encoder parameters
- Rate control: YouTube specifies constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframes: YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds.
- Ingest protocol: YouTube lists RTMP and RTMPS, and recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport.
- Video format support: YouTube lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC) and AV1; frame rates can be up to 60 fps.
Follow the encoder’s controls for entering these values; the exact labels differ by software. See YouTube’s encoder settings page for the current platform guidance.

Check whether your connection can sustain the stream
A bitrate target only helps if upload capacity remains available throughout the broadcast. YouTube recommends running an upload speed test, testing before going live with audio and motion similar to the planned stream, and monitoring stream health and messages while live. For a 24/7 broadcast, check that the connection and full playback chain remain stable over time rather than treating one speed test as proof of continuous reliability.
- Run an upload speed test on the connection the encoder will use.
- Before the broadcast, send a representative test with similar audio and motion and check YouTube’s stream health feedback.
- During the stream, monitor stream health and messages for problems; investigate drops or warnings rather than assuming the recommended bitrate guarantees uninterrupted service.
YouTube’s encoder guidance also says to test before starting a live stream. Its published settings do not promise that any bitrate prevents outages.

Choose latency based on whether the stream is interactive
A prerecorded broadcast that does not need real-time interaction usually has less reason to prioritize low latency. YouTube notes that lower latency can mean more playback buffering and that latency matters less when the broadcaster is not interacting with viewers. Consider the trade-off in YouTube’s live settings guidance; do not select a lower-latency mode just because the stream runs continuously.
