For a new server running a current Minecraft release, start with Screaming BedWars. Its listed compatibility includes Java Edition 26.3, 26.2, 26.1.x and releases 1.21.3 through 1.21.11, while its release pages mention Bukkit, Paper, Purpur and Spigot. Choose BedWars1058 instead when you deliberately run an older supported version, or when your existing setup depends on it. BedWars2026 is another modern option derived from BedWars1058, but you should confirm its current build and documentation before committing.
The reliable setup order is: select a supported Minecraft and Java combination, install Paper (or Purpur), add the BedWars plugin and dependencies, create a lobby, build and configure an arena, enable it, then test with several accounts before opening the server.

Which BedWars plugin should you use?
Version support is the first decision. A plugin that has every shop, generator and upgrade feature you want is still the wrong choice if it does not load on your server version.
| Plugin | Best fit | Known compatibility and status | Important cautions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Screaming BedWars | New servers on current Minecraft versions | Modrinth lists Java Edition 26.3, 26.2, 26.1.x and 1.21.3–1.21.11, with coverage described back to 1.8.8. Release pages list Bukkit, Paper, Purpur and Spigot support; release 0.2.42 is listed for 1.21.3–1.21.11. The licence shown is LGPL-3.0-only. | Check the project page for the exact build matching your server. A hosting report says 0.2.44 started on Paper 26.2, but that is not an independent compatibility guarantee. Pricing for optional features is not consistently reported, so confirm what is included before budgeting. |
| BedWars1058 | Established networks on older versions | SpigotMC shows BedWars1058 – OpenSource 25.2, released February 9, 2025. Its tested-version listing runs from 1.8 through 1.20. The plugin requires Java 11 or newer and Spigot or Paper. | Reports indicate incomplete or absent 1.21 support; a 2026 template page says there is no build beyond 1.21.4. Treat that statement as a prompt to verify the current project page, not as a promise of support. |
| BedWars2026 | Administrators wanting a modern BedWars1058-derived project | Its README describes arenas, teams, generators, shops, upgrades, NPCs and player statistics for Spigot, Paper and Purpur. It is derived from BedWars1058. | Confirm the release intended for your Minecraft version and follow its README. The commands below are specifically the commands documented by this project. |
How to make the choice
- Use Screaming BedWars if your priority is a current 1.21.x or 26.x server and the latest project release lists that version.
- Use BedWars1058 when you already operate a compatible 1.8–1.20 network and need continuity with its configuration and community ecosystem.
- Evaluate BedWars2026 if you want the BedWars1058 lineage with a current project, but test it on a staging server first.
- Do not select on download-count claims. No verified primary statistic establishes which plugin is the most downloaded or most popular.
Plugin commands, configuration paths and prices can change between releases. Download only the build whose supported Minecraft version is explicitly listed on the plugin’s current project page.
#1 Best Overall
Choose server software and Java before installing anything
Paper is the practical default for a BedWars network. Guides commonly recommend it because it improves optimisation, chunk loading and server responsiveness compared with vanilla Spigot. Purpur is another suitable Paper-compatible choice when you need its additional configuration options. Avoid mixing a minigame plugin designed for Bukkit/Paper with a Forge-only server.
Match Java to the server build
Java must satisfy both the Minecraft server and the plugin. BedWars1058 requires Java 11 or newer. A Paper 26.2 hosting template specifies Java 25 and 4 GB of allocated memory; that is an example template, not a universal requirement. Check the Paper build’s Java requirement and the plugin’s release notes, then use the newer requirement when they differ.
Recommended Free Tools
Allocate memory sensibly
Do not treat a large heap as a substitute for good world design. Begin with enough memory for the number of worlds and concurrent players you actually expect, leave resources for the operating system, and monitor the server’s tick time after adding arenas. The 4 GB figure attached to the Paper 26.2 template is a starting example for that template, not a guaranteed capacity rating.
Install the server and supporting plugins
1. Create a clean Paper or Purpur instance
- Download the server jar that matches the Minecraft version you intend to run.
- Place it in a dedicated server directory and launch it once so the configuration files are generated.
- Accept the EULA in
eula.txtonly after reading its terms, then start the server again. - Stop the server before installing plugins or editing major configuration files.
2. Add the BedWars plugin
- Download the plugin jar for your exact server version from its current official project page.
- Copy the jar into the server’s
pluginsdirectory. - Start the server and inspect the console for a successful enable message or a dependency/version error.
- Stop the server, review the generated configuration, and restart after making changes. Avoid replacing configuration files from a different plugin version without checking the release notes.
3. Install only the dependencies you need
A typical network uses separate worlds and map-building tools:
- Multiverse-Core: keeps each arena in its own world.
- WorldEdit: speeds up arena construction and map pasting.
- Citizens: provides NPC shop interfaces when the chosen BedWars plugin supports that integration.
- PlaceholderAPI and Vault: BedWars2026 lists these, along with Citizens, as soft dependencies. Features that integrate with them activate only when the corresponding plugin is installed.
- Optional performance tools: utilities such as ClearLagg or StackMob may help particular servers, but add them only after measuring a real performance problem and checking compatibility.
Restart after adding dependencies. If a plugin reports “soft dependency missing,” the core BedWars game may still load, but the related integration will not.
Build the lobby and arena worlds
Keep the lobby separate
Use a dedicated lobby world for signs, portals or NPCs and keep players out of active arena terrain. Separate worlds make resets and backups safer and allow you to apply different rules to the lobby and game maps.

- The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
- UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
- Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
- The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
- Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.
Design an arena that can reset cleanly
- Provide a symmetrical or deliberately balanced route between teams.
- Place each bed where it is reachable but not exposed to an immediate rush.
- Leave clear locations for team spawns, resource generators and shop NPCs.
- Remove unintended escape routes, holes and places where players can become trapped.
- Keep decorative redstone, entities and excessive item displays to a minimum; they create avoidable tick load.
- Make a backup copy of the completed arena before allowing public games.
WorldEdit is useful for copying a finished map, while Multiverse-Core can isolate the arena world from the lobby. The exact reset method depends on the BedWars plugin; do not assume a world-copy command from one project works with another.
Configure an arena with BedWars2026
The following command sequence is documented for BedWars2026. Screaming BedWars and BedWars1058 can use different command names or menus, so consult their current documentation rather than substituting these commands blindly.
- Set the lobby: stand at the intended lobby location and run
/bw admin setlobby. - Create the arena: run
/bw admin arena create <name>, replacing<name>with a short identifier such asdesert_01. - Open the editor: run
/bw admin arena edit <name>. - Define teams: use the editor GUI to create each team and assign its color or identifier.
- Set team spawns: stand at the exact starting location for each team and use the GUI’s spawn action.
- Set beds: select each team’s bed location in the editor. Verify that the bed belongs to the intended team and is not obstructed.
- Set generators: place and configure the iron, gold, diamond or emerald generators required by the map. Confirm that their locations are reachable and that resource output is appropriate for the arena layout.
- Save and enable: close or save the editor, then run
/bw admin arena enable <name>.
Enable an arena only after every team has a spawn, bed and usable route. An arena that appears in the join menu but lacks one of those elements can produce broken matches rather than a useful error.

Test before opening the server
Use at least two test accounts, and preferably one account per team, to exercise the complete match flow.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Join from the lobby and confirm that the arena is visible only when enabled.
- Check that every player spawns on the correct island or base.
- Break each bed and verify the correct team loses its respawn ability.
- Collect every generator resource and confirm that items do not spawn inside blocks or fall into the void.
- Open shop and upgrade interfaces, including NPC interactions if Citizens is installed.
- Test reconnecting, leaving, spectating and rejoining between games.
- Finish a match and verify that the arena resets, inventories clear and players return to the lobby.
- Watch the console for stack traces, repeated warnings, dependency failures or permission errors.
Test with the same client version your players will use. A plugin can enable successfully while a particular game mechanic fails only after a match starts.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Common setup failures and fixes
The plugin will not enable
Read the first error in the console, not only the final “disabled” line. The usual causes are a mismatched Minecraft build, an unsupported Java runtime, a missing dependency or a second plugin supplying incompatible classes. Replace the jar with the build explicitly listed for your server version, update Java when required, and restart from a clean stop.
Best Value
Commands are unknown
Command syntax is not shared across BedWars projects. Confirm that you are using the command namespace and administrative permission from the chosen plugin’s documentation. The /bw admin sequence in this guide is for BedWars2026 only.
NPC shops or placeholders do nothing
Install the integration named by the plugin, then restart rather than relying on a hot reload. BedWars2026 identifies Citizens, PlaceholderAPI and Vault as soft dependencies; without the relevant plugin, those optional integrations will not activate.
Players fall through or cannot reach a base
Inspect the saved spawn and bed coordinates in the editor, check that the arena world is the intended world, and walk every route in spectator mode. Fix the map, save it, then run a complete reset test before reopening the arena.
Lag appears after adding maps
Measure tick time and inspect entity counts before installing more optimisation plugins. Remove unnecessary entities and redstone, keep arenas separated into manageable worlds, and add an anti-lag utility only after confirming it supports your server software and the BedWars plugin.
Licensing, updates and maintenance
Screaming BedWars is shown under the LGPL-3.0-only licence on Modrinth. BedWars1058 is presented as an open-source project, with release 25.2 shown on SpigotMC on February 9, 2025. A console log mentioned a 25.5-SNAPSHOT build, but that does not establish a formal release. Keep a copy of the exact plugin jar, configuration and arena backups used in production.
Review the plugin page whenever you update Minecraft, Java or Paper. Compatibility lists and optional-feature pricing can change, and third-party claims about “free” versions or paid cosmetics are not consistent enough to use as a budget guarantee. Test updates on a copy of the server, then promote them only after a full match and reset cycle succeeds.
Quick Recap
A practical launch checklist
- Minecraft, Paper or Purpur, Java and BedWars plugin versions are explicitly compatible.
- The server starts cleanly with no unresolved hard dependency errors.
- The lobby and each arena have separate backups.
- All teams, spawns, beds and generators are configured.
- Shops, upgrades, NPCs and placeholders work when those integrations are installed.
- A complete match has been played by multiple accounts.
- Bed destruction, elimination, victory, reset and return-to-lobby behavior work.
- Permissions prevent ordinary players from using administrative commands.
- Console logs and tick performance remain healthy during a populated test.
