The best ARK: Survival Ascended (ASA) mod depends on whether you want a total ruleset change, better building and storage, new creatures, or role-play content. For a single-player or non-dedicated game, install mods from ASA’s in-game mod browser, activate them in Mod Settings, and start a new game. To join someone else’s modded server, select the server and let the required-mod prompt install what is missing. For a dedicated server, add each mod’s CurseForge Project ID to the server’s launch parameters or Mods panel, then restart.
Do not use the CurseForge desktop app for ASA. CurseForge’s official support guidance says ASA is not supported in that app; ASA mods are handled in the game client or through the server’s startup configuration.

Combining several overhauls is especially likely to produce an incompatible or confusing ruleset, so choose one overhaul as the foundation and add only the supporting mods you actually need.

Best overhaul and progression mods
Overhauls can alter the entire rhythm of an ASA playthrough. Pick one rather than installing several at once, and test it on a new save or a disposable server configuration before committing a long-running world.
Primal Chaos
Primal Chaos is aimed at PvE players who want raised stats, boss variants, and a more aggressive progression curve. It is a strong choice when the goal is a tougher, more heavily modified PvE experience rather than a light convenience layer.
Astraeos Ascended
Astraeos Ascended combines a new map with tuned dinosaur additions. Its appeal is exploration on a different map while keeping creature content central to the experience. Confirm map and platform compatibility on the project page before building a server around it.
Ark Supreme
Ark Supreme is listed among the major 2026 overhaul candidates. It is suited to players looking for a broad progression change, but the exact balance and compatibility should be checked against the current project description because rankings do not provide a common test methodology.
ARK Primal Nemesis
ARK Primal Nemesis is another full-scale overhaul option. Select it when you want a server identity built around a single, substantial ruleset rather than a collection of small tweaks.
Jurassic Awakening
Jurassic Awakening appears in the 2026 overhaul lists as a dinosaur-focused alternative. It can fit a server whose primary objective is a changed creature roster and progression loop.
ARK Omega Ascended
ARK Omega Ascended is named as a large overhaul with its own progression direction. It belongs in the “choose one foundation” category; do not assume it will balance itself around another overhaul.
ARK Descended
ARK Descended is included among the broad overhaul choices. Read its current requirements and update notes before adding it to a world with existing saves.

Dino Overhaul X 2
One 2026 list ranks Dino Overhaul X 2 at the top. That placement is an editorial opinion, not a benchmark result, but it makes the project worth considering if your priority is a major dinosaur and progression transformation.
Best quality-of-life mods
QoL mods are easier to evaluate because each addresses a specific recurring task. Add them one at a time so you can identify which change affects a server if something behaves unexpectedly.

Do not treat every QoL feature as free of trade-offs. Automated Ark is specifically reported to add server load. Teleporters, recovery systems, and expanded storage also change the survival decisions that make sense on a server, so agree on those rules with other players before deployment.

Best creature mods
Creature packs are a good way to expand a vanilla-style world without replacing its entire progression system. Install one pack, verify its map and platform support, and check whether its creatures overlap with another pack before adding a second.

Primal NPCs adds non-player entities to the world. Its reported Project ID is 933205. Consider how NPC behavior fits your server’s PvE or PvP rules before enabling it.

Best building, decoration, and role-play mods
Castles, Keeps and Forts: Remastered
This is the choice for large medieval construction projects. Its reported Project ID is 927084. It is more appropriate for a themed build than for a minimal vanilla base.
Medieval Guilds and Goblins
Medieval Guilds and Goblins is a role-play-oriented medieval option. One source identifies it as PC-only, so console players should not assume availability without checking the current project listing.
Eco’s RP Decor
Eco’s RP Decor supplies decorative pieces for settlements and story-driven builds. Its reported Project ID is 928553.
How to install ASA mods in single-player or non-dedicated play
ASA’s in-game browser is the supported route for a local world. Install first, activate second, and create the world only after the mod selection is ready.
- Launch ARK: Survival Ascended and open the in-game Mods list.
- Accept the displayed terms when prompted.
- Browse or search for the mod you want, then select Install.
- Open the mod settings screen. Find the installed project under Available Mods.
- Activate it so it appears in the Active Mods tab. Arrange the active list deliberately because ASA applies mods in list order.
- Create a new game after installing and activating the mods. Mods cannot be added to an existing game, so an old save will not be converted simply by installing a project later.
For a clean diagnosis, repeat this process with one mod at a time. If the first mod works and the second causes a problem, you have a meaningful starting point for troubleshooting instead of an unidentified interaction among ten projects.

How to join a modded ASA server
- Open Join Game in ASA.
- Select the server you want to enter.
- Read the required-mods pop-up. It identifies projects your client does not yet have.
- Choose Join to install the missing mods and continue connecting.
The server’s required list is the authority for that connection. If a server administrator changes the list, allow the client to install the newly required projects before trying to connect again.

A dedicated server does not use your single-player active-mod list. It downloads projects at startup from the IDs you provide in its launch configuration.
If you want to run these mods for a group, Godlike.Host ARK: Survival Ascended hosting provides a game panel with a built-in mod installer and updater, custom server-pack uploads, and SFTP access.
- Open the CurseForge page for each desired mod.
- Copy that project’s Project ID, shown in the sidebar on the right side of the mod page. Do not substitute a display name for the numeric ID.
- Add the IDs to the server’s launch parameters in the mod configuration field used by your host or server script.
- If your hosting panel has a Mods tab, paste the IDs there instead and save the configuration.
- Restart the server. ASA downloads the listed mods during startup.
- Connect as a client and allow any required client-side downloads to complete.
Project IDs can change if you copy the wrong value from a search result or another page, so confirm every number on the current CurseForge project page before restarting. The IDs reported for several creature and building projects are collected here for convenience, but they still require that confirmation:

Load order, testing, and removal
ASA applies mods in the order shown in the active list, so load order is not cosmetic. If a project’s instructions specify that it should load before or after another project, follow those instructions. When no guidance is available, keep the list short and change one position or one mod at a time so you can identify the effect.
- Back up or preserve the server configuration and save before a major change.
- Add one mod or one clearly related group.
- Start the game or restart the server and test the feature that motivated the installation.
- Check creature spawns, structures, inventories, and progression before inviting everyone back.
- If the change causes a problem, remove that mod’s ID from the command line or hosting panel and uninstall the project, then restart and test again.
Removing a mod can affect items, structures, or creatures created by it. Make the removal decision with a known backup rather than treating uninstall as a guaranteed, lossless rollback.
ASA mod troubleshooting
The download stalls or cancels
A 2024 Steam community thread describes ASA mod downloads stopping or cancelling partway through. Posters reported that retrying sometimes worked, but no confirmed permanent fix was established. Retry the installation, check that the client has enough storage and a stable connection, and try again later if the service is temporarily failing. Do not present a single retry as a guaranteed solution.

Some 2026 guides describe a desktop-app workflow, but that conflicts with CurseForge’s official ASA support statement. Use ASA’s in-game browser for local play and the server’s Project ID configuration for dedicated hosting.
The server starts but players cannot connect
- Confirm that every Project ID is present in the server configuration and that the server was restarted after saving.
- Check that the client has downloaded the same required projects shown by the server’s join prompt.
- Review the active list order; a load-order change can alter how projects apply.
- Remove the newest mod and test again if the failure began immediately after an installation.
A mod is missing on console
One source describes Primal Chaos as only partially available on console, but that claim was not verified consistently. Treat console availability as project-specific and check the current CurseForge listing and the in-game browser for your platform before designing a server around it.
A practical 2026 mod-selection plan
For a mostly vanilla solo world
Choose one information or storage aid, such as a spyglass project or a cryo-storage project, then add it through the in-game browser and start a new game. This keeps the ruleset recognizable while removing the chores you personally find most repetitive.
For a builder’s world
Use Structures Plus (S+) Remastered as the central construction change, optionally adding Eco’s RP Decor or Castles, Keeps and Forts: Remastered for a specific visual theme. Test pickup, movement, and crafting behavior before rebuilding an important base.

Select one creature pack, verify its map support, and then consider a spyglass or storage mod to manage the larger roster. Avoid adding an overhaul until you know that the creature pack’s progression and spawn behavior meet the server’s goals.
For a role-play community
Start with a building or decoration project, then add only the creature or trading systems that support the story. Auction House for Tribes, Better Logs, or a live Web Map can change community behavior as much as a decorative pack, so establish server rules before enabling them.
For a total-conversion server
Pick one overhaul—such as Primal Chaos, Astraeos Ascended, Ark Supreme, ARK Primal Nemesis, Jurassic Awakening, ARK Omega Ascended, ARK Descended, or Dino Overhaul X 2—then test it alone. Add QoL projects only after the base overhaul starts cleanly, and document the final Project ID list so every player and administrator uses the same configuration.
What is and is not established about ASA mod performance
There are no published statistics in the available evidence that compare load times, frame rates, crash rates, or server tick performance across these projects. Do not interpret a ranking position as a measured benchmark. The concrete performance warning available here is that Automated Ark is reported to add server load; other projects require testing on your own hardware, map, player count, and configuration.
Likewise, the mod names and order above reflect opinion-based 2026 lists rather than an official compatibility matrix. Project pages, update histories, platform labels, and required dependencies can change, so verify those details immediately before installation.
