Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a quick full-page screenshot in Firefox, start with Firefox’s built-in Screenshot feature. If you need element-level control, use Firefox DevTools; if PDF output or batch capture matters, consider FireShot; and if you want annotation, sharing, or recording, Awesome Screenshot may still fit. No controlled comparison establishes one option as the most reliable on every page, so choose by workflow and check current add-on compatibility before installing.
Which Firefox screenshot option fits your job?
| Option | Best for | What it offers | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|---|
| Firefox Screenshot | Fast, straightforward captures | Capture a selection, a highlighted page part, the visible area, or the full page; save the image or copy it to the clipboard. | It is a browser capture feature, not a hosted image-sharing service. |
| Firefox DevTools | Element-specific or configurable captures | Full-page and element capture, including controls for delay, device-pixel ratio, filename, and CSS selector. | The screenshot button must be enabled in DevTools settings; console commands require comfort with developer tools. |
| FireShot | PDF-oriented archiving or batch capture | Its Firefox listing describes full-page, visible-area, and scrolling-selection capture, PDF with links and text, PNG/JPEG, and batch capture. | The Firefox Add-ons listing reports version 1.12.18, last updated June 5, 2023. Check its current listing and compatibility before depending on it. Some annotation, blur, highlighting, and PDF enhancements are described as Pro features. |
| Awesome Screenshot & Screen Recorder | Capture plus markup, sharing, or recording | Its listing describes full-page, selected-area, and visible-area screenshots, annotation, blur, image/PDF output, cloud links, and video recording. | The listing warns that fast Firefox release cycles may temporarily affect compatibility. Some cloud and collaboration features have account, access, or Premium limits. |
Start with Firefox’s built-in Screenshot
For a one-off capture, Firefox’s built-in feature can capture the full page without installing another extension. It also handles selected regions, the visible viewport, and page parts Firefox highlights automatically. Choose saving when you need a local image, or copy when you want to paste it elsewhere.

Older references may say Firefox Screenshots lost its hosting feature. Mozilla clarified in January 2019 that the standalone screenshot server was being sunset while download and clipboard options remained; that change was not the removal of the browser capture feature.

Firefox DevTools is the better fit when you need a screenshot of a particular element or want to control capture timing or pixel ratio. Its screenshot controls include full-page capture and selector-based capture; the screenshot button may need to be enabled in DevTools settings. For command-based use, Firefox documents options for delay, device-pixel ratio, filename, and CSS selector. This route is useful for technical users, but less convenient than a simple toolbar action if you just need a quick image.

When an add-on is worth installing
Choose FireShot for formats and batch work
FireShot’s Firefox Add-ons listing describes capture of the full page, visible area, or a scrolling selection, with PDF, PNG, and JPEG output and batch capture. The listing also says some annotation and enhanced PDF functions require Pro. Its reported last update is June 5, 2023, so verify the current version and compatibility on the listing rather than assuming maintenance is current.
Choose Awesome Screenshot for markup and sharing
Awesome Screenshot remains a candidate if your workflow combines screenshots with annotation, blur, cloud sharing, or screen recording. Its Firefox listing notes that rapid Firefox upgrades can temporarily cause incompatibility. Check which features require an account or Premium access, and whether the sharing workflow suits your privacy needs.

Compare the details that matter
- Capture geometry: Decide whether you need only the viewport, a selected region, an element, the whole page, or a scrolling/inner region.
- Editing: If you need annotation, blur, highlighting, or crop, confirm those functions are included in the edition you plan to use.
- Output: Check image formats, PDF output, and clipboard support against where the capture needs to go next.
- Workflow: Distinguish a local file from a cloud link, collaboration workflow, or screen recording.
- Compatibility: Review the current Firefox Add-ons listing and update history before adopting an extension for repeated or important work.
- Permissions and privacy: Read the permissions shown by Mozilla Add-ons and the developer’s privacy claims separately; a listing or vendor statement is not an independent security audit.
Privacy: browser telemetry and add-on permissions are different questions
Mozilla’s Firefox Screenshots support information says the feature collects interaction events, such as whether someone uses Copy or Save full page, and says it does not collect the URL or details of the captured image. It also describes controls for disabling data collection. That browser telemetry information does not establish what an independently installed add-on collects.
FireShot claims captures are stored locally and that it can work offline. Its Mozilla Add-ons listing also identifies permissions including access to data for all websites and download information. Treat the local-storage and offline statements as the developer’s claims, and review the actual permissions shown for the version you install.

For automated screenshots, try ScreenshotNeo
ScreenshotNeo is not a Firefox annotation extension; it is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. It is the alternative to try first when your goal is to automate website captures rather than take and mark up screenshots manually. One GET request accepts a URL and returns an image or PDF. Before capture, it can accept consent banners and remove known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides tools for AI agents, including Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
For a quick API capture, replace the example URL with the page you need and use your API key. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options and setup.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo includes 1,000 shots per month free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Sign up for ScreenshotNeo’s free plan.

Common questions when choosing
Will an extension always capture a very long or dynamic page correctly?
The cited listings do not establish comparative reliability on very long, dynamic, or internally scrolling pages. Try your intended workflow on representative pages before relying on it for repeatable captures.
Is Firefox’s built-in Screenshot feature still available?
Yes. The 2019 change concerned the standalone hosted screenshot server, not the browser’s ability to capture and download an image or copy it to the clipboard.
