There is no documented universal winner. For HTML-to-PDF work with custom fonts, DocRaptor, PDFShift, and PDFreactor each document a route for supplying or configuring fonts. Choose by the font formats and weights you need, how fonts will be made available to the converter, and whether you need hosted conversion or local font control. Then verify the actual PDF using your production HTML and font assets.
How to choose an HTML-to-PDF API for custom fonts
A CSS declaration such as font-family: "Brand Sans" is not enough on its own. The converter must also be able to retrieve or register the font file, and the resulting PDF must render the required styles and glyphs correctly. A useful comparison therefore starts with the whole font path, not a feature checkbox.

- Formats and styles: Confirm support for your font formats and the weights and styles used in your CSS.
- Font availability: Determine whether the service can fetch your font URLs or whether you can supply fonts through another supported method. For private assets, establish a secure approach.
- Layout coverage: Test fonts in body text and, if applicable, in headers and footers.
- Fallback behavior: Check what happens when a font or glyph cannot be loaded.
- Operations: Compare hosted API and library deployment options, privacy and region requirements, expected volume, plan limits, and licensing for embedding or conversion.
The official product documentation describes capabilities, but does not establish a common benchmark for rendering fidelity, speed, support, privacy controls, or total cost across these providers. Treat your own representative output as the deciding evidence.

Custom-font options compared
| Service | Documented font route | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| DocRaptor | CSS @font-face and web fonts in HTML sent to its API. Its documentation says WOFF 2.0 requires DocRaptor Pipeline 8 or higher. |
Current pipeline and supported formats; remote font access; required weights and glyphs; plan and volume fit. |
| PDFShift | Send @font-face CSS and font URLs through request CSS. |
Whether the service can fetch each resource URL and whether output matches your requirements. |
| PDFreactor 12.7.1 | Its manual documents TTF, OTF, TTC, OTC, WOFF, and WOFF2, plus CSS web fonts, local font directories, and API font configuration. | Whether a web service or library deployment suits your needs; setup, runtime, licensing, local resources, and exact output. |
DocRaptor: an explicit web-font workflow
DocRaptor documents custom fonts through CSS @font-face and web fonts. Its stated WOFF 2.0 support is conditional: the documentation requires Pipeline 8 or later. Confirm which pipeline and formats apply to your account rather than assuming that the format works in every configuration.

PDFShift: check font URLs and header/footer content
PDFShift’s custom-font guide describes sending font declarations and URLs in request CSS. If you use custom fonts in headers or footers, its separate guide says the font declaration or data should also be included in the header/footer content. See the PDFShift header and footer font guide.
Its pricing page currently displays a free plan with 50 credits per month, a 15 MB maximum file size, and one credit per 5 MB of generated data. These are details shown on the pricing page as accessed in 2026, not a like-for-like cost comparison with other providers; check the page for current terms: PDFShift pricing.

PDFreactor: more documented font configuration choices
The PDFreactor 12.7.1 manual lists TTF, OTF, TTC, OTC, WOFF, and WOFF2. It also documents CSS web fonts, local font directories, registration and fallback configuration. Its REST API reference includes loading fonts from URLs and fallback settings. This breadth may suit a workflow that needs explicit font configuration, but deployment model, licensing, and setup still matter.
How to validate fonts before choosing
- Inventory the production fonts. Record each font file, format, family name, weight, style, and the languages or symbols the PDF must cover.
- Confirm how the converter receives them. Test URL access or the provider’s documented registration/configuration method. If the assets are private, confirm a secure method with the provider.
- Use representative HTML and CSS. Include every used weight and style, realistic page layouts, and characters from the actual language and symbol set.
- Test headers and footers separately. Include them in the test if your documents use them; PDFShift’s guide specifically calls for font declaration or data in header/footer content.
- Inspect the generated PDF. Check visual appearance and, where your workflow requires it, text selection, searchability, and font embedding. The cited product documentation does not provide a comparative evaluation of these properties.
- Repeat with production-like settings. Use the intended API options, assets, and deployment conditions. A small demo with a public font cannot establish that private production assets will work.
- Check operational fit. Confirm current version or pipeline, plan limits, service terms, hosting region and privacy requirements, and rights to embed or convert each font.
Which one should you choose?
Choose a hosted API such as DocRaptor or PDFShift if its documented font retrieval method works for your assets and your validation PDFs pass. Consider PDFreactor when local font registration and configuration control are important, after checking its deployment and licensing requirements. The available documentation does not justify ranking these services by output fidelity, speed, or total cost.

For screenshot images or PDFs from web pages
If your task is to capture a rendered website as an image or PDF rather than convert your own HTML document with controlled font assets, ScreenshotNeo is a separate option: it is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not an HTML-to-PDF service comparison winner. It returns PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF from a URL. Its capture options include full-page capture, PDF settings, custom CSS and JavaScript, and waiting for a selector, delay, or network idle. Do not assume this URL-based capture workflow is a substitute for registering a private font in an HTML-to-PDF conversion pipeline.
Or skip the browser setup
For a web-page capture, one GET request can return a screenshot. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.

- The PDF falls back to another font: Check that the converter can retrieve or register the font file, that the URL is reachable in the conversion environment, and that the CSS family, weight, and style match the supplied files.
- WOFF2 does not work in DocRaptor: Check the documented Pipeline 8-or-higher requirement and confirm the pipeline applicable to your configuration.
- Body text works but header or footer text does not: For PDFShift, check that the font declaration or data is included in the header/footer content as well as the request CSS.
- Some characters render incorrectly: Check the font’s coverage against the exact languages and symbols in the document, then inspect fallback behavior and output.
- A private font cannot be fetched: Confirm the provider’s supported way to supply or register private assets; do not assume that a URL accessible from your own machine is accessible to a hosted converter.
- The output looks right but the workflow requires searchable or embedded text: Verify those properties directly in the PDF. The cited guides do not establish them for every provider or configuration.
