If you want an Android phone that is neither a Samsung nor a Google Pixel, the right pick depends on your budget, camera priorities and country. The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro is a distinctive midrange contender; Motorola’s Moto G Power (2026) emphasizes affordable practicality; and Xiaomi, OPPO and Honor offer camera-focused alternatives where they are sold and supported. These are conditional recommendations drawn from published reviews, not a hands-on, side-by-side ranking.
How to choose an Android phone beyond Google and Samsung
Start with the trade-off you care about most, not a universal “best” label. Compare total local price, camera versatility, battery endurance and charging, performance, software-update support, water and dust protection, network compatibility, and access to warranty service and repairs. A phone can look compelling on paper yet be a poor buy if its exact version is unavailable or unsupported where you live.

Best candidates by buyer
| Phone | Best fit | What reviews highlight | Geography or ownership check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nothing Phone (4a) Pro | Midrange buyer who wants distinctive design and a broad feature set | TechRadar highlights its value, telephoto camera, faster charging and chipset; WIRED praises performance, screen brightness and battery reliability, while noting IP65 protection and no wireless charging. | WIRED flags possible AT&T and Verizon compatibility issues in the US. Verify the exact model with your carrier. |
| Motorola Moto G Power (2026) | Budget buyer prioritizing practical features and durability | Android Authority reports a $299.99 MSRP, IP68/IP69 protection and a 5,200mAh battery. It describes performance as serviceable and reports a two-year Android update commitment. | Confirm the current local listing, exact carrier variant and update policy before buying. |
| Xiaomi 15 Ultra | Photography enthusiast considering the previous Xiaomi Ultra generation | PhoneArena describes a 50MP 1-inch main camera and a 200MP periscope camera, and reports a camera benchmark score of 158. | Android Authority says US access to Xiaomi Ultra phones can be difficult. Check bands, warranty and repair support locally. |
| Xiaomi 17 Ultra | Photography enthusiast considering Xiaomi’s newer Ultra generation | Android Authority describes a Leica-oriented triple-camera system with 1-inch main and 200MP telephoto hardware. | Android Authority says US access remains difficult; availability and support depend on market. |
| OPPO Find X9 Ultra | Premium buyer prioritizing camera hardware | TechRadar reports a 200MP main camera, 3x telephoto, 50MP ultrawide, 10x telephoto and a 7,050mAh battery. | TechRadar and Android Authority identify US availability limitations. Do not assume an imported unit will have local warranty or carrier support. |
| Honor Magic 8 Pro | Flagship buyer prioritizing display, telephoto and fast charging | PhoneArena highlights its display, smooth performance, long support, telephoto and fast charging; it also flags a weaker ultrawide camera and high cost. | PhoneArena notes that battery specifications differ by region. Check the exact market version. |
Which non-Google, non-Samsung phone fits your priorities?
For a distinctive midrange phone: Nothing Phone (4a) Pro
TechRadar calls the Phone (4a) Pro its “exciting value-for-money Android pick of 2026,” citing the telephoto camera, faster charging, chipset and distinctive design. WIRED likewise points to performance, a bright screen and reliable battery life. Treat those as reviewer assessments, and weigh them against the IP65 rating, lack of wireless charging and the cited carrier concerns.

For budget practicality: Motorola Moto G Power (2026)
Android Authority reviewer calls it “not the most exciting phone at $300, but it might be the most practical.” Its reported IP68/IP69 protection and 5,200mAh battery make it a candidate for buyers focused on everyday utility. The trade-offs are serviceable rather than standout performance and the two-year Android update commitment reported by Android Authority. The publication lists its MSRP as $299.99; that is dated review context, not a guarantee of today’s local price.
For photography: Xiaomi, OPPO or Honor, subject to local support
The Xiaomi 15 Ultra and Xiaomi 17 Ultra are different generations; do not treat the 15 Ultra’s cited camera details or benchmark as specifications for the newer model. The 15 Ultra’s 158 camera benchmark is a PhoneArena-reported score, not a universal measure of photo quality. Android Authority characterizes the 17 Ultra as a camera-phone contender. OPPO’s Find X9 Ultra is another hardware-heavy option, while PhoneArena presents the Honor Magic 8 Pro as a flagship with display and telephoto strengths. For all of these, regional availability, the exact variant, warranty and network support can determine whether the phone is a sensible purchase.

- Verify the local version. Battery specifications and other details can vary by region, as PhoneArena notes for the Honor Magic 8 Pro.
- Check updates and repair access. Compare the stated update commitment with how long you plan to keep the phone, and confirm that warranty service and parts are available locally.
- Compare the final local price. Include taxes, shipping and any import costs; review-page MSRP and availability can change.
