It is aimed at 6th–9th generation Intel Celeron and Pentium processors with integrated Intel HD/UHD graphics, and Android apps require compatible hardware and preferably at least 4 GB of RAM. The other entries include archived or legacy Android builds, a Linux-hosted Android environment, and a Windows emulator, so they are not six equivalent operating systems.
Which Android OS works on a low-end PC?
“Low-end PC” is not a compatibility specification. CPU generation and instruction set, graphics, firmware, RAM, and 32-bit versus 64-bit support can determine whether a build boots or whether its Android apps work. The six options below are ranked by fit and documented support—not by measured speed. The lower positions reflect older software or a different operating model, not benchmark results.

1. FydeOS for PC, Intel Slim: best documented current fit for some older Intel PCs
FydeOS’s Intel Slim variant targets 6th–9th generation Intel Celeron and Pentium processors—roughly 2015–2019 systems—with Intel HD/UHD integrated graphics. The download page lists version 23.0-SP1 dated 2026-09-10. It is a ChromeOS-like desktop system, not a pure Android installation; Android app access comes through a subsystem that must be activated. FydeOS documents SSE4.2 as a requirement for that subsystem and recommends at least 4 GB of RAM for Android apps.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsChoose the matching hardware variant rather than assuming one FydeOS image fits every PC. The Intel Legacy option for older Intel Core systems is marked no longer supported. FydeOS says Intel Legacy issues may sometimes be worth checking against Intel Modern, but compatibility is not guaranteed. Its PC Android features document Intel and AMD Radeon graphics families; NVIDIA discrete graphics may need to be disabled and are not officially supported. See the FydeOS variant guide and Android app instructions.

2. BlissOS Go: closest design match, but only as an unsupported archive experiment
Bliss documentation describes Go as a build intended for low-end machines. That makes it a plausible hardware-oriented match, but not the safest maintained choice: Bliss says public images are paused, old images are frozen archives with no updates or official support, and there is no public ETA for the next image. Its older compatibility documentation says the builds it covers target x86_64-v2. The project notes that active work and its new tree differ from those older docs, so that page should not be treated as a definitive description of a future release. Check the Bliss OS project site and Bliss documentation before deciding whether an archived image is appropriate.
3–4. Android-x86 8.1-r6 and 9.0-r2: legacy choices, not current Android
The official Android-x86 release index lists Android 8.1 and Android 9.0 series, as well as older versions. These are options for readers investigating legacy PC hardware or older Android-based builds, not evidence of current Android releases or ongoing security patching. The index does not establish that a particular app will run on a given machine, nor does it prove that either build will be faster on older hardware. See the Android-x86 release index.

Can you run Android apps with 2 GB RAM?
Possibly, but 2 GB does not guarantee that Android apps will work well—or be supported by the build you choose. FydeOS lists 2 GB RAM as a minimum for browser use, while recommending 4 GB or more for its Android subsystem. Those figures describe FydeOS guidance, not a universal threshold for every entry in this list. CPU instructions, graphics and the chosen Android route matter too.
How to check a low-end PC before installing
- Identify the hardware. Record the exact CPU model and generation, graphics hardware, installed RAM, firmware mode, and whether the system is 32-bit or 64-bit. Do not choose an image from the label “low-end” alone.
- Match the build to the machine. For FydeOS, use its variant guidance and check that the processor, graphics, and SSE4.2 requirement for Android apps match your PC. For archived or legacy images, consult the project’s documented compatibility information and account for the support limitations above.
- Create bootable USB installation media. FydeOS and Bliss installation instructions use a bootable USB drive. Use media you already have if suitable; no particular brand, capacity, or speed is established as necessary here. See the FydeOS USB boot guidance and Bliss OS installation documentation.
- Boot from USB before installing. Test the hardware you need: graphics, Wi-Fi, sound, touchpad or touchscreen, and sleep. A successful boot alone does not show that every component or Android app will work.
- Install only after the trial meets your needs. Confirm that the system’s support status, app route, and hardware behavior are acceptable before replacing or repartitioning an existing installation.
Is Android-x86 still current?
The official Android-x86 index lists Android 9.0 and 8.1 release series and older versions. That establishes which series appear in the index; it does not establish active security maintenance. Treat Android-x86 here as a legacy option, not a current Android platform. If current security updates are important, the release index alone is not enough to confirm that requirement.
Quick Recap
Which option should you choose?
- For a compatible 6th–9th generation Intel Celeron/Pentium PC: Start by checking FydeOS Intel Slim. It is the strongest documented current fit here for a desktop system with Android apps, provided its hardware requirements suit your machine.
- For an experiment specifically aimed at low-end hardware: BlissOS Go matches that design goal, but its available images are unsupported archives.
- For a legacy Android-based PC build: Android-x86 8.1-r6 or 9.0-r2 may be worth investigating, with the age and support uncertainty understood.
- To keep Linux or Windows: Waydroid is a Linux-hosted route and BlueStacks 5 is a Windows emulator. Neither is a bootable Android OS replacement, and current compatibility should be verified with its project or vendor documentation.
