The best Android alternative to Samsung Internet depends on what you want to change. Choose Firefox if Android add-ons and syncing with Firefox on other devices matter; Brave if you want privacy protections enabled by default; DuckDuckGo Browser for simple tracker controls and quick data clearing; or Vivaldi for extensive customization and built-in tools. Galaxy owners who value Samsung Internet’s device integration may have a reason to keep it.
Choose by your top priority
| Your priority | Start with | Why it may fit |
|---|---|---|
| Android add-ons and syncing browser data | Firefox | Mozilla documents Android add-ons, built-in tracking protection, and sync for tabs, bookmarks, and passwords. Add-on compatibility varies. |
| Blocking with little setup | Brave | Brave says Shields blocks certain third-party resources by default and can be adjusted when a site malfunctions. |
| Simple privacy controls | DuckDuckGo Browser | DuckDuckGo describes tracker blocking and one-click deletion of tabs, history, and browsing data. |
| Customization and built-in tools | Vivaldi | Its Android browser lists a built-in ad and tracker blocker, extensions support, page capture, translation, and other tools. |
| Galaxy device integration | Samsung Internet | A secondary comparison identifies Galaxy integration as a reason some owners may prefer to stay. Check Samsung’s current documentation for specific features. |
These are feature-based fits, not a performance ranking. The available material does not establish a comparable independent Android speed, battery, or memory winner.

Firefox: the strongest fit for add-ons
Firefox for Android combines built-in tracking protection with an extensions catalogue. Mozilla says extensions can add functions such as ad blocking, and tabs, bookmarks, and passwords can sync across devices. Mozilla Support describes installing add-ons through the in-browser extensions manager or addons.mozilla.org. Compatibility is not universal, so check whether a particular extension supports Android before switching.
Recommended Free Tools
Firefox is worth considering if you already use Firefox elsewhere or want more control through add-ons. Do not assume its Android catalogue matches desktop Firefox feature for feature.

Brave: protections enabled by default
Brave’s built-in Shields use filtering lists and, according to Brave, block third-party cookies and storage by default. The company also says Shields randomizes some fingerprintable browser features. These are vendor descriptions, not results from a shared independent test against the other browsers here.
If a site breaks, Brave lets you adjust or disable Shields for that site. Lowering Shields also reduces some protections, so treat it as a troubleshooting trade-off rather than a risk-free fix.

DuckDuckGo Browser: straightforward controls
DuckDuckGo describes its Android browser as blocking third-party trackers and offering a one-click way to delete open tabs, history, and browsing data. It says the browser blocks most ads and cookie pop-ups; that does not mean every ad or identification method is blocked.
Quick deletion and tracker controls can reduce locally retained data and some tracking, but they do not make browsing anonymous or hide network activity from websites, an internet provider, or an employer.

Vivaldi: customization and built-in tools
Vivaldi’s Android feature list includes an ad and tracker blocker, extension support, private tabs, a reading list, page capture, translation, and themes. It also offers cross-device sync of browser data. Vivaldi says its sync is end-to-end encrypted; treat that and its other privacy statements as company claims rather than independent audit findings.
Consider Vivaldi if you want a browser you can configure and prefer several tools built into the app. Its broader feature set may be less compelling if your main goal is simply to replace Samsung Internet with a minimal browser.

What about Edge and Chrome?
A 2026 editorial comparison lists third-party extension support for Edge and Firefox on Android, while Chrome’s Android listing does not list extensions. App features and store listings can change, so check the current listing and extension catalogue before choosing Edge for a particular add-on. Chrome may suit someone who prefers Google’s browser ecosystem, but the evidence available here does not establish current Chrome Android sync details.
Switching browsers: data, defaults, and expectations
Before changing your default, check how the new browser handles the data you rely on. Firefox documents sync for tabs, bookmarks, and passwords; Vivaldi describes syncing browser data. Those capabilities do not guarantee that every browser can import every data type from Samsung Internet.

- Check the current app listing and feature documentation. Confirm Android availability, extension compatibility, and the data types you want to carry over.
- Review import options in the new browser. Look for its import or setup flow and verify which items it can bring across; do not assume passwords, bookmarks, and open tabs all transfer.
- Sign in to sync only if you want it. Review the browser’s account and sync settings, then confirm the selected data appears on your other devices.
- Set the new default browser in Android settings. The exact menu labels and path vary by Android version and device, so use the Settings search for “default apps” or “browser app” if needed.
Market-share and browser-engine figures need context
The UK Competition and Markets Authority’s 2023 report gives Android browser supply figures for 2021: Chrome 74%, Samsung Internet 15%, Firefox 4%, DuckDuckGo 2%, Opera 2%, Brave 2%, and Edge 0.7%. These are historical UK figures, not current global market shares. The report also said more than 95% of the Android browser vendors it assessed used a version of Blink, while Firefox used Gecko; that assessment should not be read as a current count of browser engines.
