Best Aim Training Routines for Winning FPS 1v1s

Start with balanced flicking, target-switching and tracking practice, then focus on the duel you lose most often. For VALORANT, Aimlabs’ game-specific playlist takes 24 minutes and pairs best with practice in the Range and live matches.

For most FPS players, the best starting routine is a balanced session covering flicking, target switching and tracking, followed by practice in the game itself. Aimlabs’ current general Aim Basics playlist is designed to take roughly 30 minutes. Its VALORANT Aim Basics playlist is a more focused 24-minute option with drills for micro-corrections, flicking, smoothness, strafing targets and angle peeks. Choose the routine that fits the game and the duel you tend to lose; neither playlist is proven to guarantee more 1v1 wins.

Which aim routine should you use?

If you do not yet know which aiming skill is holding you back, begin with a balanced routine rather than repeating only flick drills. Aimlabs’ current Aim Basics hub describes a game-agnostic playlist covering flicking, target switching and tracking, designed for roughly 30 minutes. Players focused on VALORANT can instead try the official VALORANT Aim Basics routine, which is described as a 24-minute sequence of eight one-minute tasks repeated three times.

Then add practice in the actual game. A trainer can isolate aiming tasks, but a duel also involves crosshair placement, movement, weapon accuracy, peeking and responding to an opponent. Aimlabs’ VALORANT guide recommends using the Range and combining movement with accuracy, including counter-strafing. Treat the trainer as one part of practice, not a substitute for the game.

These durations describe the playlists, not an evidence-based minimum dose for improving. If you have less time, use a shorter focused block on the skill you are working on; do not describe that abbreviated session as the full official playlist. Aimlabs’ training guidance favors purposeful, reasonable and repeatable practice over spending all day in a trainer.

Build a routine around the duel you lose

Before choosing tasks, describe the failure in observable terms. “My aim is bad” is too broad to guide practice. A useful diagnosis identifies what happens in the duel: you miss the first shot, take too long to acquire the target, lose the opponent during a strafe, or become inaccurate when moving. Select drills that address that problem, then check whether the skill feels more controlled in actual matches.

If your first shot misses or lands off target

Work on target acquisition and the correction that follows it. In the VALORANT playlist, Adjustshot VALORANT and Headshot VALORANT are the flicking tasks. The guide describes them as practicing initial target acquisition followed by correction, including against moving targets. Micro-correction tasks can also be relevant when your crosshair reaches the target area but needs a small adjustment to settle accurately.

Do not turn this into a race to click as quickly as possible. Aimlabs’ VALORANT guidance recommends prioritizing accuracy over speed at first in the Range. That gives you a practical order: make the shot controlled, then work on doing the same action more efficiently. A faster attempt that repeatedly misses does not address an accuracy problem.

If you struggle to follow a strafing opponent

Choose tracking work rather than making every session a sequence of stationary flicks. Aimlabs’ general Aim Basics playlist includes tracking. In the VALORANT playlist, Strafe Track VALORANT follows a strafing target, while the listed micro-correction tasks also include small or strafing targets. These task descriptions make them a closer match for maintaining aim on movement than a drill focused only on snapping to a stationary target.

Keep the goal specific: maintain control as the target changes direction, rather than simply completing the task or chasing a high score. In a live duel, the opponent’s movement and your own movement both matter, so follow trainer practice with movement-and-accuracy work in the game.

If you lose duels while taking angles

Use practice that includes angle and peek situations. Aimlabs’ VALORANT routine includes Angle Track VALORANT, described as emphasizing stability and maintaining crosshair placement while taking angles, and Peekshot VALORANT, which approximates opponents peeking from either side of a corridor. These tasks are more specific to angle-taking than generic target switching.

The aim is not only to react after an opponent appears. Crosshair placement before the opponent enters view affects how much correction you need to make. Use the in-game Range and ordinary game practice to connect the trainer task to where you place the crosshair and how you move through an angle.

If you are inaccurate while moving

Pair trainer work with in-game movement and accuracy practice. Aimlabs’ VALORANT guide recommends combining movement with accuracy, including counter-strafing. The practical focus is to coordinate movement and a controlled shot rather than assuming that a static target drill will teach the whole duel.

Strafeshot VALORANT is the game-specific playlist task described as approximating evasive movement. It can complement practice against strafing targets, but it does not replace learning how your chosen weapon behaves in the game. Work in the Range to connect movement, weapon use and accuracy under the conditions you actually encounter.

If you cannot name a clear weakness yet

Start with the balanced general playlist or, if you play VALORANT, the complete VALORANT Aim Basics playlist. Use the session to observe which parts feel least controlled and which problems appear in matches. After you have a recurring failure to work on, make that the focus of a short additional block or a later session rather than abandoning fundamentals entirely.

How to run the VALORANT Aim Basics routine

Aimlabs’ official VALORANT Aim Basics guide describes eight tasks, each lasting one minute, repeated three times for a total of 24 minutes. The tasks are grouped around micro-corrections, flicking, smoothness and game-specific situations. Use the listed task names as VALORANT-specific guidance; the same labels and mechanics should not be assumed to transfer exactly to other FPS games.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Micro-corrections: Play Micro 2 Sphere VALORANT and Microshot VALORANT. These tasks train small adjustments and chained corrections on small or strafing targets.
  2. Flicking: Play Adjustshot VALORANT and Headshot VALORANT. They practice initial target acquisition followed by correction, including against moving targets.
  3. Smoothness: Play Strafe Track VALORANT and Angle Track VALORANT. The first follows a strafing target; the second emphasizes stability and crosshair placement while taking angles.
  4. Game-specific situations: Play Strafeshot VALORANT and Peekshot VALORANT. They approximate evasive movement and opponents peeking from either side of a corridor.
  5. Repeat the sequence: Complete the eight one-minute tasks three times to follow the stated 24-minute structure.

That is the playlist as described, not a requirement to train for exactly 24 minutes every time you play. If the full sequence does not fit your schedule, choose a purposeful subset and call it a shortened focused block. Aimlabs’ guidance recommends a reasonable amount of consistent practice and reflecting on whether the work carries over, rather than treating longer sessions as automatically better.

Add practice in the actual game

Trainer tasks can give you repeatable opportunities to work on a particular aiming action. A match adds the surrounding decisions: where to hold the crosshair, how to approach or clear an angle, when to move, and whether you can make an accurate shot under the game’s conditions. For that reason, pair a trainer session with a live-game warm-up or deliberate in-game practice.

Use the Range to connect accuracy and movement

Aimlabs’ VALORANT guide recommends practicing accuracy in the Range and mixing movement with accuracy, including counter-strafing. Begin with shots you can control rather than making speed the first goal. Then include movement while preserving accuracy, so you can judge whether the aiming skill survives beyond a stationary trainer task.

The Range is also a place to practice with the game’s weapons and scenarios. Keep the drill relevant to the problem you identified. If you lose shots while moving, include movement; if you struggle to take angles, rehearse crosshair placement and angle work. This is deliberate practice, not a claim that one particular Range exercise has a measured effect on duel results.

Use matches to test transfer

After training, pay attention to the situations your session was meant to address. Did you acquire the target with less hesitation? Did you maintain control during a strafe? Were your shots more accurate after moving? These observations help decide what to practice next, but a few matches do not establish that a drill caused a change in win rate. Opponents, maps, weapons and match circumstances also vary.

How long should you train before playing?

Use the stated playlist duration as a planning reference, not as a universal warm-up prescription. Aimlabs describes the general Aim Basics playlist as roughly 30 minutes and the VALORANT playlist as 24 minutes. Those are the listed routine lengths; they do not establish that every player needs that much training before a match or that a shorter session is ineffective.

If time is limited, choose a brief block for the weakest skill you can identify, then move into in-game practice. If you have time for the full playlist and it fits your goals, follow its sequence. Consistency and attention to a defined objective are more useful planning principles than extending practice simply to accumulate minutes. Aimlabs author Mr Aimlabs has suggested that even 15 minutes a day of purposeful training can bring benefits over time; that is publisher training advice, not an independently established guarantee of improved 1v1 results.

Measure more than a trainer score

Use trainer measures to understand what happened during the task, and live-game observations to check whether the skill appears in the relevant situation. Aimlabs’ guidance suggests setting realistic goals such as headshot percentage or average damage per round. Riot Games’ 2021 Aim Lab Combine announcement described task measurements including accuracy, speed, reaction time and tracking. These metrics can inform practice, but none is established here as a standalone predictor of winning 1v1s.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • For a flick or correction focus: review accuracy and whether you are making controlled corrections, not only how quickly you finish.
  • For tracking: look at the task’s tracking measure and whether you can keep control of a moving target.
  • For game transfer: observe the match outcome related to your goal, such as headshot percentage or average damage per round, while remembering that these outcomes are affected by more than aim.
  • For consistency: compare sessions using the same task and a similar practice approach; a score from a different drill may measure a different skill.

Riot’s 2021 Combine grouped its six custom Aim Lab tasks into Entry, Headshots, Microflexing, Tracking, Trigger Control and Wallpeek. Its announcement said registered players’ Player Cards summarized overall and individual task measurements, including accuracy, speed, reaction time and tracking, alongside VALORANT rank and primary agent. That announcement documents the Combine’s categories and measurement design at the time; it does not establish that the event or feature is currently available.

How to choose between general and game-specific practice

Use a general routine when you need broad fundamentals or do not know which mechanic is causing problems. Use a game-specific routine when the game’s movement, weapons or common duel situations are central to the weakness you want to address. Aimlabs’ current hub describes game-specific routines beyond VALORANT, including for Counter-Strike 2, Apex Legends and Rainbow Six Siege. Choose the relevant current routine where available rather than assuming that VALORANT task names or mechanics transfer unchanged.

When deciding how much of each kind to practice, weigh four things:

  • Skill coverage: A balanced block exposes you to flicking, target switching and tracking. A focused block spends more of your limited time on a named weakness, such as micro-corrections or tracking.
  • Game transfer: General target drills work on broad aiming actions; game-specific tasks can approximate movement, angles, weapons or peeks that matter in a particular title.
  • Time and consistency: The stated general playlist is roughly 30 minutes; the VALORANT playlist is 24 minutes. Choose a plan you can repeat, and be clear when you are doing a shortened selection rather than the full playlist.
  • Evaluation: Pair trainer accuracy, speed, reaction or tracking measures with relevant live-game observations. A better task score alone does not prove the routine raises your duel win rate.

What the evidence can—and cannot—tell you

The available routine descriptions and training guidance support a practical recommendation: build broad fundamentals, focus additional work on the duel problem you actually have, and practice in the game as well as in a trainer. They describe what the playlists contain, how long the stated routines run and which skills they target. They do not compare multiple routines in a controlled study or establish a quantified increase in FPS 1v1 win rate from any one drill.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Accordingly, “best” depends on the player’s game, weakness and ability to practice consistently. A 24-minute game-specific routine is a clear starting option for a VALORANT player; the roughly 30-minute general playlist is a broader starting option. Neither duration, task count nor a high score should be treated as proof of winning more duels.
