For changing your voice live while streaming, Voicemod is the clearest fit in the official product documentation reviewed here: it describes real-time voice effects, a virtual microphone and an OBS setup. For generating narration or changing a recorded clip, ElevenLabs offers text-to-speech and a voice changer for audio you upload or record in its app. These are different jobs, not interchangeable features.
Which kind of AI voice tool do you need?
Start with when the audio needs to change. A live voice changer processes your microphone as you speak and routes the result to streaming software. Text-to-speech creates spoken audio from text; an audio voice changer can transform a clip for later use. A product that changes uploaded or recorded audio is not, by that fact alone, a live virtual microphone for OBS.

1. Voicemod: the live-stream microphone choice
Voicemod is the strongest match here if your goal is to sound different in real time on stream. Its product page describes an AI voice changer for streamers and says it integrates with Stream Deck, Twitch and OBS for voice and sound controls. Voicemod also describes its software as low-resource and minimal-latency; those are vendor claims, not independently measured results in the material reviewed. Voicemod’s product page

- Install and open Voicemod, then choose the voice effect and sound controls you want to use.
- In OBS, open Settings > Audio and select Voicemod Virtual Microphone as the microphone or auxiliary audio device. Voicemod’s OBS guide gives this device name and says to select it in the app or game where you will speak. Read Voicemod’s OBS guide
- Check OBS’s audio meter while speaking. If the meter does not respond, confirm the selected input and that Voicemod is running, then check that the microphone is not muted.
- Make a short test recording or private stream before going live. Listen for the processed voice, game or desktop audio, and any soundboard effects; adjust levels so effects do not overpower speech.
Voicemod’s OBS documentation also describes real-time filters and soundboard reactions. Stream Deck is an optional control surface for triggering changes, not a prerequisite; verify compatibility for the specific device and software versions you plan to use.

2. ElevenLabs: narration and recorded-clip transformation
ElevenLabs is better suited to prepared audio than to changing a live OBS microphone on the evidence available here. Its pricing page lists text-to-speech and voice changer, while its dedicated voice changer page says you can upload audio or record in the app. The reviewed pages do not document an ElevenLabs live virtual microphone setup for OBS, so do not assume that recorded-clip conversion provides live mic routing. Budget for credits according to the workflow
As displayed on ElevenLabs’ pricing page on October 3, 2026, its monthly plans ranged from Free at $0 with 10,000 credits through Starter at $6 with 30,000, Creator at $22 with 121,000, Pro at $99 with 600,000, Scale at $299 with 1,800,000, and Business at $990 with 6,000,000; Enterprise was custom. The page also displayed temporary first-month prices or promotions, which are not durable plan prices. Check the live page before subscribing.

ElevenLabs says text-to-speech uses approximately one credit per character and voice changer approximately 1,000 credits per minute, with credits shared across products. A few minutes of transformed audio can therefore draw down credits much faster than short text-to-speech requests. Estimate your expected audio volume against the current allowance rather than choosing a tier by name alone.

No independent head-to-head sound-quality or latency test is established by these sources, and they do not settle comparative commercial-use licensing. Treat performance descriptions as vendor statements, and review each provider’s current terms for your intended use before monetizing generated or transformed audio.

Keep the audio rights and stream format in view
Voice tools do not grant rights to music, sound effects, scripts, cloned voices or other material you feed into them. Before using a voice or clip in monetized content, check that you have permission for the source material and that your intended use is allowed by the tool provider’s current terms. The reviewed pages do not provide enough evidence for a full licensing comparison.
