The best AI agent platform for customer support depends on the helpdesk you already use, the work you want AI to perform, and how the vendor charges for it. Fin is a candidate for teams keeping an existing support platform; Salesforce Agentforce is oriented around Salesforce data and workflow orchestration; Gorgias is specifically positioned for Shopify commerce; and Zendesk and Freshdesk offer AI within their respective service ecosystems. Ada and Decagon appear in a 2026 vendor comparison, but the product details available here are too limited to support a detailed recommendation.
This is a documentation-based comparison, not a hands-on test or an independent performance ranking. Vendor examples and claims below are labeled as such; none establishes a result that every buyer should expect.

AI customer support platforms compared
The table summarizes the clearest documented fit and the available billing information. Prices are not directly comparable: the units differ, and some amounts come from a vendor-authored comparison rather than each provider’s own current pricing terms.
| Platform | Best fit indicated by available information | Documented approach | Pricing evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fin AI Agent (Intercom) | Teams that want an AI agent while retaining certain existing helpdesks | Uses support content, follows described existing-platform automation rules, and can send unresolved cases to a human queue with conversation history | Intercom pricing materials list $0.99 per outcome; separate helpdesk seat charges may apply |
| Salesforce Agentforce | Teams evaluating AI grounded in Salesforce context and actions | Prebuilt actions and multi-agent orchestration; positioned for service across web, phone, and apps | Intercom’s July 8, 2026 comparison reports $2 per conversation or action-based credits; confirm with Salesforce |
| Zendesk AI | Teams seeking AI agents for multi-step service workflows and an assistive copilot | Vendor describes agents working across channels and copilots assisting service roles | Intercom’s July 8, 2026 comparison reports approximately $1.20–$1.50 per verified resolution on commitments; pay-as-you-go terms differ |
| Freshdesk AI / Freddy AI | Freshdesk customers considering a combined agent, copilot, and insights suite | Freddy AI Agent, Freddy AI Copilot, and Freddy Insights | Intercom’s July 8, 2026 comparison reports $0.10 per session; Agent and Copilot are described as add-ons for Pro and Enterprise customers |
| Gorgias AI Agent | Shopify-focused ecommerce support teams | Can use store and customer context, help content, guidance, connected-app actions, and a confidence-based handoff | Specific current price not established here; the Intercom comparison’s Gorgias figure is a provisional estimate |
| Ada | Potential shortlist candidate; detailed buyer fit is not established here | Current capabilities, integrations, and support model are not established in the available official documentation | Not stated; the comparison’s reported pricing is an estimate requiring confirmation |
| Decagon | Potential shortlist candidate; detailed buyer fit is not established here | Current capabilities, integrations, and support model are not established in the available official documentation | Not stated; the comparison’s reported pricing is an estimate requiring confirmation |
How to choose an AI agent platform for customer support
Start with the support operation you need to change, rather than a vendor’s headline automation percentage. An AI agent may answer from approved content, carry out an authorized task, or route an issue; those are different capabilities. A copilot, by contrast, assists a human service worker. A platform can include both, as Freshdesk describes for Freddy AI.
#1 Best Overall
1. Decide whether AI supplements or replaces your support system
Identify your current system of record for tickets, customer details, and support knowledge. Fin is explicitly described as deployable within Intercom or on certain existing platforms, including Salesforce Service Cloud, HubSpot, and Freshworks. Its documentation says that, in described integrations, it learns from existing support content and follows the current system’s automation rules. It can route unresolved cases to the existing human-agent queue with conversation history.
Agentforce’s documented positioning is different: it centers Salesforce context, prebuilt actions, and orchestration. Zendesk AI and Freshdesk AI are presented within their respective service ecosystems. Before choosing, determine whether the agent will sit on top of the current helpdesk or become part of a move to another service platform; that choice affects integration and migration work.
2. Match actions to the work customers actually request
List the common requests you want automated, then distinguish information-only questions from requests that require a change or a decision. For example, an answer from a help article is not the same as an approved order or case action. Zendesk describes agents for multi-step workflows, Salesforce highlights prebuilt actions and orchestration, and Gorgias documents connected-app actions. The available descriptions do not establish that every platform can perform every action in a buyer’s environment.
Also check what happens when an answer is uncertain or a task cannot be completed. Gorgias describes a confidence check and escalation path; Fin describes routing unresolved cases to the existing agent queue. Human handoff should be treated as part of the workflow, not as an edge case to ignore.
3. Weigh industry and channel fit
Gorgias explicitly targets Shopify ecommerce brands, using store orders, customer and product data, help articles, uploaded documents, guidance, and connected-app actions. That context can be more relevant to a commerce support team than a general enterprise orchestration pitch. Salesforce describes service across web, phone, and apps, while Zendesk describes multi-step work across channels. These are vendor-stated positioning claims, not a guarantee that a particular channel or integration is available in every edition or configuration.
4. Compare oversight and knowledge ownership
Find out which content the agent can use, who maintains it, and how unresolved or low-confidence interactions reach people. Fin’s described approach draws on existing support content and preserves conversation history when routing an unresolved case. Gorgias describes selecting knowledge or actions, checking answer quality, and escalating below its confidence threshold. The available descriptions do not establish a common standard for auditing, excluded topics, or quality measurement across vendors, so do not assume these controls work identically.
5. Model total cost using the same workload
Count the charges a real deployment may incur: AI outcomes or sessions, helpdesk seats, add-ons, commitments, action credits, and repeated or escalated interactions. Use the same expected volume and success assumptions for every candidate. A fee per session is not the same unit as a fee per resolved outcome, and a verified resolution may have its own vendor-specific definition. A low unit price alone does not show which system will cost less for a given support team.

Seven AI agent platforms for customer support
1. Fin AI Agent (Intercom): for teams retaining certain existing helpdesks
Fin is the clearest candidate in this group when a team wants an AI agent but does not want to assume that it must replace its helpdesk. Intercom describes deployment within Intercom or on certain existing platforms, naming Salesforce Service Cloud, HubSpot, and Freshworks. Documentation says Fin can learn from existing support content, follow the current system’s automation rules in the described integrations, and send unresolved cases—with conversation history—to the existing human-agent queue.
Intercom’s pricing materials publish $0.99 per outcome. That is a vendor-published amount, not a neutral comparison; the exact current region, commitment, eligibility, and billing definition should be confirmed in Intercom’s terms. Separate Intercom pricing materials also indicate that optional helpdesk seats carry a per-seat charge, but the amount is not established here. The main trade-off to assess is total cost across outcome charges and any helpdesk seats, along with whether the particular existing-platform integration supports the workflow you need. Intercom’s claims about setup speed and performance are vendor claims, not independent findings.
2. Salesforce Agentforce: for Salesforce context and orchestration
Salesforce positions Agentforce as a customer-service AI agent platform spanning web, phone, and apps. Its official product description emphasizes Salesforce context, prebuilt actions, and multi-agent orchestration. These make it a candidate for organizations that want to evaluate actions grounded in Salesforce data and coordinated workflows rather than an agent considered apart from their CRM and service environment.
Intercom’s July 8, 2026 comparison reports Salesforce pricing of $2 per conversation or action-based credits. This is a vendor-authored comparison, not a confirmed current Salesforce quote; the charge model and applicable plan need to be checked directly with Salesforce. The key limitation in the available information is that it does not establish which actions, integrations, or package terms a particular buyer will receive.

3. Zendesk AI: for multi-step workflows with agent assistance
Zendesk describes AI agents that handle multi-step workflows across channels, alongside a copilot intended to help service roles. That combination may suit teams considering both customer-facing automation and assistance for human agents. Zendesk’s product page also presents customer-specific results; they should be read as examples attached to named customers, not predicted outcomes for a new deployment.
For example, Zendesk displays a 30–40% automation rate for Vimeo. It also shows an 80% messaging automation rate and more than $500,000 in annual AI cost savings for Best Egg. These are vendor-presented customer results, not independently verified benchmarks or typical expected results. Vimeo’s Director of Digital Support, Noah Kardos-Fein, is quoted on the Zendesk page as saying: “There’s a wealth of information in these AI agent conversation logs. We’re using them not just for support, but also to improve our product and strategy, too.”
Intercom’s July 8, 2026 comparison reports approximately $1.20–$1.50 per verified resolution on Zendesk commitments and says pay-as-you-go pricing differs. Because billing definitions and commitment terms matter, this range should not be compared directly with another vendor’s outcome, session, or conversation fee.

4. Freshdesk AI / Freddy AI: for a three-part AI suite in Freshdesk
Freshworks describes Freshdesk AI as Freddy AI Agent, Freddy AI Copilot, and Freddy Insights. The Agent is the customer-facing automation component; Copilot assists agents, while Insights is the analytics component in the suite. Freshworks says Agent and Copilot are add-ons available to Pro and Enterprise customers, so they should not be assumed to be included in every Freshdesk plan.

Freshworks advertises “Up to 80% Resolutions with Freddy AI Agent” and “60% Increased agent productivity.” These are vendor claims; the reviewed material does not establish a methodology or show that a buyer should expect either result. Intercom’s July 8, 2026 comparison reports $0.10 per session. Confirm current packaging and the meaning of a billable session directly with Freshworks, and include relevant Freshdesk seats and add-ons in any cost estimate.
5. Gorgias AI Agent: for Shopify-oriented ecommerce support
Gorgias’s help documentation describes its AI Agent as purpose-built for Shopify ecommerce brands. It can draw on store orders, customer and product data, help articles, uploaded documents, and guidance. The documentation also describes actions in connected apps: the agent checks the request, selects relevant knowledge or actions, checks answer quality, and hands the interaction to a person if it does not meet its confidence threshold.
This Shopify and store-context orientation is the strongest documented reason to consider Gorgias in this list. Its available material here does not establish that the same fit applies to every support organization or ecommerce platform. A current official price is not established here; the Gorgias amount in Intercom’s comparison is a provisional estimate rather than a confirmed provider price.
6. Ada: shortlist only until capabilities are confirmed
Ada appears in Intercom’s 2026 vendor-authored comparison, but the available official product documentation was not reviewed for this article. As a result, current capabilities, supported integrations, channels, handoff behavior, and support model are not established here. The comparison’s reported pricing is provisional and should not be treated as an Ada quote. Ada belongs on a buyer’s research list only if its current official materials confirm a fit for the required workflows.

Decagon also appears in Intercom’s 2026 comparison, without enough reviewed official product documentation here to describe its current workflow coverage, integrations, channels, human oversight, or service model. The comparison’s pricing figure is an estimate, not confirmed Decagon pricing. Treat it as a candidate for further consideration, not as a recommendation based on capabilities that have not been established.

The figures available for this comparison illustrate why prices cannot be ranked as though they were the same product unit. Intercom’s July 8, 2026 article compares several vendors and their billing approaches, but it is authored by a company that sells one of the products discussed. Its rates are reported or estimated amounts, not neutral verification of each vendor’s current terms.

| Platform | Reported unit and amount | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Fin | $0.99 per outcome | Published in Intercom pricing materials; confirm current definition, region, eligibility, and commitment |
| Zendesk | Approximately $1.20–$1.50 per verified resolution on commitments | Intercom comparison reports a different pay-as-you-go rate; exact amount is not stated here |
| Salesforce | $2 per conversation or action-based credits | Reported by Intercom; conversation and action-credit billing are different units |
| Freshdesk | $0.10 per session | Reported by Intercom; session billing is not the same as paying only for a resolved issue |
| Gorgias, Ada, and Decagon | Not stated here | Intercom reports estimates for these platforms; confirm current official pricing before using a figure |
These amounts do not establish which platform is cheapest for a given support team. A useful estimate needs the same projected issue volume, the share of issues resolved, the number of sessions or actions, human escalations, helpdesk seats, add-ons, and any commitment terms. In particular, a session or conversation charge may apply even when the customer’s issue is not resolved; a resolution-based unit has a different billing premise, and vendors may define outcomes or verified resolutions differently.
What the performance claims do—and do not—show
There is no independent, neutral comparative benchmark established for these platforms in the information available here. Zendesk’s Vimeo and Best Egg figures are customer-specific examples presented by Zendesk; Freshworks’ resolution and productivity figures are vendor claims. Neither category should be used as a forecast for another organization. A buyer should evaluate its own workload and quality criteria rather than treating a vendor’s best-case figure as a cross-market standard.

For a pilot, agree in advance on what counts as a successful resolution, when a handoff is required, and how unresolved or incorrect answers will be reviewed. Track the same definition across systems under consideration. This avoids comparing an answer rate, session count, conversation count, or vendor-defined outcome as if all measured the same thing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Use the FAQ section below for common questions about choosing and evaluating a customer-support AI agent.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can an AI support agent resolve tickets and hand off to a human?
Yes, the documented workflows include human escalation. Fin describes routing unresolved cases to an existing agent queue with conversation history, while Gorgias describes handing off when its confidence check is not met. Confirm how a vendor handles the specific cases and queue rules your team uses.
What is the difference between an AI agent and a copilot?
An agent is positioned to interact with customers and carry out support workflows; a copilot assists a human service worker. Freshdesk AI explicitly includes both Freddy AI Agent and Freddy AI Copilot, so buyers should distinguish customer-facing automation from tools that help staff respond.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Which option is most relevant for a Shopify support team?
Gorgias is the most specifically documented fit here: its help material describes an AI Agent built for Shopify ecommerce brands and able to use store and customer context. That does not establish equivalent support for every commerce platform.
Are the vendor automation and productivity percentages expected results?
No. Zendesk’s figures are attached to named customer examples, while Freshworks’ figures are vendor claims whose methodology and applicability are not established in the reviewed material. They should not be treated as a forecast or neutral benchmark.
How should a team compare costs across these platforms?
Translate each vendor’s billing unit into a projected monthly workload, then account for seats, add-ons, commitments, actions or sessions, and cases that reach a human. A per-session amount and a per-outcome amount do not measure the same chargeable event.
