The best 120 mm case fan depends on your case, fan position, airflow restrictions and preferred noise level—not the size alone. The Noctua NF-A12x25 G2 PWM and NF-A12x25 PWM have published specifications that make them useful options to compare; ARCTIC’s P12 PWM PST is another candidate, but the available manufacturer page does not provide comparable figures for ranking it here. Check fit, control support and the fan’s intended use before choosing.
What to check before choosing a 120 mm fan
Confirm fit and clearance
Check your case manual or specifications for supported fan positions and sizes. A 120 mm mounting pattern does not by itself guarantee clearance: confirm the frame thickness and room around the mounting point, including nearby components. The two Noctua models below measure 120 × 120 × 25 mm. ARCTIC’s support page lists a 120 mm mounting pattern for the P12 PWM PST.

Match the fan to airflow restriction
Airflow and static-pressure ratings help describe a fan’s published performance, but they are not measurements of cooling inside your case. A radiator, heatsink or restrictive grille can change the conditions. Noctua describes the NF-A12x25 line as suitable for both case cooling and pressure-demanding heatsink or radiator use.

Consider noise and speed control
Maximum noise figures and speed ranges are useful specification points, not a complete subjective noise comparison. PWM fans can be run below their maximum speed when the motherboard or fan controller supports the appropriate control. A lower speed may reduce noise, but the resulting cooling depends on the system and configuration.

Check connectors, headers and included parts
Confirm whether you have a compatible fan header or hub and whether it supports PWM or voltage-based speed control. Count how many fans you need and check the box contents: splitters, extensions, vibration mounts and low-noise adaptors may affect what else you need to install them.
120 mm PC case fans compared
| Fan | Published specifications | Connection and included items | What the available information establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Noctua NF-A12x25 G2 PWM | 120 × 120 × 25 mm; 0–1800 rpm; maximum airflow 107.3 m³/h (63.15 CFM); maximum static pressure 3.14 mm H₂O; maximum acoustical noise 22.5 dB(A). Figures are manufacturer specifications; the page does not state a year. | 4-pin PWM; six-year warranty. Noctua lists a low-noise adaptor, PWM splitter, extension cable, anti-vibration mounts and radiator gasket in the box. | Strong published maximum airflow and static-pressure figures among the two Noctua examples here. Those figures do not establish in-case results or a universal winner. |
| Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM | 120 × 120 × 25 mm; 0–2000 rpm; maximum airflow 102.1 m³/h (60.09 CFM); maximum static pressure 2.34 mm H₂O; maximum acoustical noise 22.6 dB(A). Figures are manufacturer specifications; the page does not state a year. | 4-pin PWM; six-year warranty. The manual says the supplied low-noise adaptor caps speed at 1700 rpm. | A higher listed maximum speed than the G2 model, alongside lower published maximum airflow and static pressure. This does not predict which will cool a particular case better. |
| ARCTIC P12 PWM PST | 120 mm mounting pattern; comparable numeric airflow, static-pressure, speed and noise figures are not stated on the retrieved support page. | The support page lists related fan-hub and 4-pin splitter products. | A possible option to investigate when you need a 120 mm fan and shared fan connections; the information available here is insufficient for a numeric performance ranking. |
Specifications above come from the manufacturers’ pages and are not independent comparative test results. The available sources do not establish current prices, stock, or comparative thermal and acoustic performance.

- HIGH STATIC PRESSURE: Efficient even with resistance – the generated airflow easily penetrates dense radiators, narrow perforated panels and mesh structures and ensures reliable cooling
- PWM CONTROL WITH WIDE SPEED RANGE: The speed can be progressively adjusted up to 3000 rpm via the 4-pin PWM connection – the fan stops completely at less than 5% PWM
- PRECISE MANUFACTURING FOR MAXIMUM SMOOTH RUNNING: Minimal gaps, automatic balancing and high-precision measurement noticeably reduce vibrations – for quiet, efficient and long-lasting performance
- SMOOTH-RUNNING FLUID DYNAMIC BEARING (FDB): The self-lubricating bearing minimizes noise during operation – ideal for quiet, efficient cooling and a long, reliable service life
- NEW FAN BLADE DESIGN FOR MORE PERFORMANCE: The redesigned rotor blades offer an optimal balance of performance and low noise – especially efficient at low speeds
Which fan should you choose?
Choose the NF-A12x25 G2 PWM if its specifications and accessories suit your build
Its published maximum airflow and static pressure are higher than those of the NF-A12x25 PWM, while its listed maximum speed and noise are slightly lower. Treat this as a comparison of manufacturer ratings, not proof of superior real-world cooling. Its listed accessories may also reduce the need to source mounting or wiring parts separately.

It has a published maximum speed of 2000 rpm, and the supplied low-noise adaptor caps speed at 1700 rpm. Its airflow and static-pressure figures are lower than the G2 model’s published figures, while its maximum acoustical noise rating is 22.6 dB(A), compared with 22.5 dB(A) for the G2. Those small differences do not establish perceived noise or cooling in your case.

Consider the P12 PWM PST when its connection setup is relevant
ARCTIC’s support page documents the mounting pattern and points to related fan connection products, but the information available here does not support a direct numerical performance comparison. Check the current product specifications and your build’s control requirements before buying.

- Check the motherboard or hub manual. Identify available fan headers and whether each supports PWM control or voltage-based speed control.
- Mount the fan in a supported position. Use the case’s instructions and confirm that the frame and nearby components have clearance. For the Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM, the manual permits the supplied screws or anti-vibration mounts.
- Connect the fan to a suitable header. Noctua identifies the 4-pin connection for automatic control from a 4-pin motherboard header. Its manual says the fan can connect to a 3-pin header, but it will run at full speed unless the motherboard supports voltage-based speed control.
- Use a splitter only if you need more connections. Noctua says its supplied Y-cable allows multiple NF-A12x25 PWM fans to share a header; the motherboard then sets them to the same speed. Check the header and splitter guidance in your motherboard documentation.
- Set and check fan behavior. Use the motherboard’s fan-control settings or a compatible hub to adjust speed, then verify that the fan responds as expected. If it remains at full speed on a 3-pin header, check whether voltage-based control is supported and enabled.
For radiator installation
Noctua recommends the included gasket for radiator installation to reduce air loss between the fan and radiator. Its NF-A12x25 PWM manual says: “The NA-AVG1 gasket can also be used for other applications that benefit from a tighter seal with the fan.”
