Yes—Linux can run on the Beelink EQi 304’s performance core and four efficiency cores. A published test reports Ubuntu 26.04 running on the mini PC with Linux 7.0 and 7.1. Linux also has mechanisms for adjusting CPU performance and, when supported and exposed by the hardware, using core-capability information to influence task placement. But the available test does not establish that Linux always assigns latency-sensitive work to the faster core, or that every distribution and workload will behave identically.
What the EQi 304’s “one fast core” means
The tested EQi 304 uses Intel’s Core 3 304 processor. CNX Software describes its five-core layout as one performance core (P-core) and four efficiency cores (E-cores). Intel lists five total cores, 6 MB of cache, and a maximum frequency of up to 4.30 GHz. That maximum is a specification, not a guarantee that the processor will hold that frequency during a sustained workload.

The different core types matter because work can be serial or parallel. A serial task may benefit from a fast P-core; a task that can run several threads may also use the E-cores. Core layout alone does not tell you how a particular application will perform or where every thread will run.

What Linux does to manage performance and placement
Frequency scaling adjusts performance state
Linux’s CPUFreq subsystem has a core layer, scaling governors and scaling drivers. Governors estimate the performance capacity a workload needs; drivers communicate with supported hardware to request performance-state changes. Scheduler utilization updates can inform frequency decisions. This is about adjusting CPU performance, not directly guaranteeing that a thread runs on a particular core.
The kernel documentation also notes that thermal or power limits can prevent a processor from sustaining its maximum capacity. Actual results therefore depend on workload, firmware, kernel and driver support, user configuration, and operating conditions.

Hardware feedback may inform task placement
Intel Hardware Feedback Interface (HFI) documentation says Linux can use hardware-provided performance and energy capability information to influence task-placement decisions. “Influence” is not a promise that every application thread will always land on the P-core.
The EQi 304 report does not verify that HFI is active on this specific machine. Treat HFI as a documented possible mechanism, not a confirmed feature of the tested EQi 304 configuration.

What the published Ubuntu test establishes
CNX Software reports installing Ubuntu 26.04 on an added 256 GB NVMe SSD in an M.2 slot, leaving Windows on the mini PC’s built-in UFS storage. The review identifies Ubuntu’s kernel as Linux 7.0.0-27 and says it also tested kernels 7.0 and 7.1. This is concrete evidence that Linux booted and ran on the EQi 304 in that configuration; it is not a controlled comparison of Linux and Windows CPU scheduling.
The review reports good single-threaded performance and strong wired networking, but its other observations were mixed. In that Ubuntu setup, Wi-Fi throughput was about 800 Mbps—approximately half the reviewer’s Windows result under the reviewer’s conditions. YouTube playback at 4K/60 and 8K/30 stuttered occasionally; 8K/60 was not playable, while 4K/30 was consistently smooth. The reviewer also reported that a Khadas Mind Graphics 2 NVIDIA dock did not work and that the default Firefox Snap failed to launch; installing Firefox through apt was the workaround.

Such as compatible with MacBook Pro/Air 2023/2022, Thunderbolt 4/3 Devices,Apple MagSafe Watch 9/8/7/SE/Ultra, iPad Pro 2022/2021, Samsung Galaxy S23/S20/S10, and iPhone 17/16/15 Pro. Plug and play
- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
These are observations from one software and device setup, not universal Linux results. Wi-Fi, video playback, graphics and application packaging are distinct from CPU core placement, so those issues do not by themselves show that Linux’s scheduler mishandled the P-core.

There is no basis in the published report for a universal verdict that Linux always picks the P-core for latency-sensitive work, or that the EQi 304 matches Windows in every task. To assess a particular setup, keep the comparison focused on the question you need answered:

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Single-threaded performance: compare the same workload and benchmark version on the same machine.
- Multi-threaded performance: distinguish workloads that can use several cores from those limited by one thread.
- Core placement: observe per-core activity while the workload runs; a benchmark score alone does not show where its threads ran.
- Sustained performance: measure over a defined duration and account for power and thermal limits rather than treating the 4.30 GHz maximum as a sustained target.
- Software and device support: record the distribution, kernel, firmware, graphics stack and relevant drivers, then test Wi-Fi, video decode, external devices and suspend separately from CPU performance.
The available review provides useful evidence for one Ubuntu configuration, but not a controlled, same-workload Linux-versus-Windows CPU comparison or a model-specific verification of HFI. Results from another configuration should not be assumed to answer either question.
