Its documented fleet milestones and expansion plans are dated snapshots, not a verified count of buses operating today.
How BasiGo’s electric-bus model works
BasiGo is not simply selling a vehicle to an individual buyer. It describes a Pay-As-You-Drive approach intended to reduce the upfront cost for bus operators, combining tech-enabled leasing with access to charging and service support. The company’s homepage describes that overall model.

In a March 2025 announcement about Rwanda, BasiGo said its offer included charging, service and maintenance, insurance, and a 90% uptime guarantee. Those are company-stated terms for that announcement; the available information does not establish that they apply today or are standard across both Kenya and Rwanda. Operators should confirm current contract terms, service coverage, and uptime commitments directly before committing a vehicle.
Which BasiGo bus models are documented?
The available sources name several models, but do not establish that every model is currently available in every market. Their appearances in announcements and model listings should not be read as a current, complete catalogue.

| Model | What the sources establish | Availability caveat |
|---|---|---|
| R10 Rumuri | BasiGo says it introduced the fully electric bus to Kigali operators and passengers in December 2023. Its Rwanda page discusses the model and leasing for operators. | Current availability and quantities are not stated. |
| E9 Kubwa | A Kenya Government Advertising Agency article names the model and gives a historical estimate of approximately KSh 7.5 million (about US$58,000). | The figure is a historical reported estimate, not a current purchase quote; current availability is not stated. |
| King Long KL-9 | BasiGo’s model page describes a King Long partnership and assembly with Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers. | Current market availability and quantities are not stated. |
The historical E9 estimate should not be compared directly with BasiGo’s lease offer as if they were equivalent prices: the estimate and lease structure describe different commercial arrangements, and the sources do not provide a full cost-of-ownership comparison.
Where BasiGo buses operate, and what the fleet figures mean
BasiGo has documented activity in Kenya and Rwanda, but the figures available refer to different dates, geographies, and kinds of progress. They do not establish the company’s current combined fleet total.

- 100 buses across East Africa: A BasiGo milestone page says the fleet reached 100 buses across Kenya and Rwanda. The result carries a July 31 date but no clear year, so it cannot be treated as an October 2026 fleet count. See BasiGo’s milestone announcement.
- Rwanda shipment and target: On March 6, 2025, BasiGo said 28 buses were en route to Rwanda, with delivery expected in April and May, and set out a plan to deliver 100 buses in Rwanda during 2025. It also reported more than 360 reservations. These are dated company statements: a shipment, a target, and reservations are not proof of completed deliveries. See the March 2025 announcement.
- Kenya deployments in 2025: The E-Mobility Association of Kenya’s Q4 2025 newsletter reports that BasiGo deployed 84 additional buses on Kenyan roads during 2025. This is a retrospective report about Kenya, not a consolidated count across both countries. See the Q4 2025 newsletter.
Rwanda’s policy context is separate from BasiGo’s commitments: the Rwanda Development Board reported a government target for 20% of the country’s public bus fleet to be electric by 2030. That is a policy target, not a BasiGo delivery pledge. See the Rwanda Development Board’s account.

Depot charging and maintenance capacity matter to an operator as much as the bus itself: a fleet needs reliable access to charging and service in the places and hours its routes require. The cited infrastructure details are specific announcements and reports, not a full current inventory.

Rwanda: planned Rwandex depot upgrade
In its March 2025 Rwanda announcement, BasiGo described a planned upgrade at the Rwandex service and charging depot with 1 MW of power and capacity to charge 25 buses nightly. The announcement also said additional stations would be deployed to support inter-city routes. These are announced specifications and plans, not confirmation of the depot’s present operating capacity or the size of the current network.
Kenya: five depots reported commissioned
The E-Mobility Association of Kenya’s Q4 2025 newsletter reports five new depots commissioned in Komarock, Pipeline, Riruta, Juja, and Nyahururu. It says the depots use DC fast chargers supporting GB/T and CCS2 connectors. An operator evaluating a route should confirm connector compatibility and access at the specific depot it expects to use, rather than assume the same setup is available everywhere.

Inter-city electric matatu pilot
BasiGo’s July 22, 2025 announcement about an inter-city electric matatu pilot identifies charging stations in Nyahururu and Thika. For the pilot vans—not BasiGo buses generally—the company stated a range of up to 300 km and a 1.5-hour recharge. Those figures are pilot-vehicle specifications attributed to the announcement, not a universal range or charge time for the bus fleet. See BasiGo’s pilot announcement.

Manufacturing and battery support
BasiGo’s model page describes the King Long KL-9 as a partnership assembled with Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers. Separately, the Q4 2025 E-Mobility Association of Kenya newsletter says BasiGo was appointed an authorized CATL Battery Service Agent for Sub-Saharan Africa. Together, these reports point to local assembly and battery-service roles within the broader operating model; they do not specify current production volumes or the coverage and terms of battery servicing.

What an operator should verify before choosing a bus
The sources do not provide enough information for a full total-cost-of-ownership comparison. An operator assessing a specific route should request current, contract-level details and compare like with like:
Quick Recap
- Which model and configuration are currently offered in the operator’s country, and what passenger capacity and route use are supported?
- What is the complete lease or purchase structure, including payment obligations and any included services?
- Which charging depots are accessible on the intended route, what connectors do they provide, and what charging capacity is available?
- Where can the bus receive maintenance and battery support, and what uptime or service commitments are written into the agreement?
- Are quoted range and charging-time figures for the exact bus and operating conditions, or for a different vehicle such as the inter-city pilot van?
- Does a stated fleet number refer to reservations, a shipment, a delivery target, or buses already deployed—and for which country and date?
