A Bash tool for DevOps reports should offer two ways to run the same reporting logic: prompts or a menu for an operator at a terminal, and explicit command-line arguments for scripts, scheduled jobs, and CI. Keep those paths separate from the functions that gather and format report data. This is an implementation recommendation, not a Bash-mandated interface.
Why support both interactive and non-interactive use?
Bash is both a command interpreter and a programming language. It can accept keyboard-driven commands in an interactive session or execute commands non-interactively from a file or string. That makes it suitable for a CLI that serves an operator at a terminal as well as an automated workflow. The GNU Bash Reference Manual is the primary reference for Bash behavior; its current cited edition is 5.3, last updated May 18, 2025.

Interactive Bash features include job control, command-line editing, command history, and aliases. As the manual puts it, “These interactive features include job control, command line editing, command history and aliases.” Those features improve the shell session, but they do not by themselves define a menu or reporting interface for a script.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSeparate the operator interface from report generation
Design the reporting functions to accept explicit values—such as a time range, environment, or output format—rather than prompting for input internally. Then provide a prompt or menu layer that collects those values and calls the same functions. A non-interactive invocation can pass the values directly, without waiting for keyboard input. This separation is design guidance inferred from Bash’s support for both execution modes, not a required Bash architecture.

Interactive path
Use prompts when an operator needs to choose report parameters during a terminal session. Make the choices and defaults clear, and allow a deliberate exit or cancellation before running a potentially expensive report.
Automated path
Offer explicit arguments for scheduled runs and CI jobs. Automation should not depend on terminal prompts: missing required values should produce a clear error rather than hang while waiting for input. Document which arguments are required and what defaults, if any, apply.

- 2 in 1: USB C + USB 3.0, 32GB usb c flash drive has dual ports, usb 3.0 port is applied to all devices which have usb 3.0 interface and usb c port is widely used in all Android smartphones with OTG function
- High Speed USB 3.0: Read speed up to 90 MB/s, Write speed up to 30 MB/s, the speed of USB 3.0 interface is faster than USB 2.0, save time to wait, increases work productivity. Note: Speed will be limited if you use the USB key in the USB 2.0 interface
- Large Compatibility: The USB 3.0 Connector is compatible with USB 3.0 & USB 2.0 backward USB 1.1 devices, such as Laptop, Desktop, Car Audio, Tablet, TV, Speakers, Projector. USB-C port is compatible with all Android Smartphones
- Expand Storage: Good performance in storing, transferring and sharing digital data with families, friends, colleagues, customers. It can expand the capacity of smartphone, you can watch movies or share pictures when you go on vacation with your family
- Note: Make sure your smartphone is equipped with OTG function and need to open OTG function in Settings when you plug memory stick, then you can transfer easily data bewteen different devices
Choose outputs for people and downstream tools
Human-readable text is useful when an operator reads a report directly. A structured format such as JSON can be offered when another program needs to consume the results. ShellCheck, a static-analysis tool for shell scripts, documents diagnostic output options that include human-readable text and JSON. That demonstrates that shell tooling can expose both kinds of output; it does not establish a standard JSON schema for DevOps reports.
If you add JSON output, define and document the report’s fields, value types, and behavior when data is unavailable. Keep machine-readable output free of prompts and incidental status messages so downstream consumers can parse it reliably. These are implementation choices for the project, not Bash requirements.

Make arguments and failures predictable
Quote variables populated from command-line arguments, following the GNU Bash style guidance. Quoting helps preserve values that contain spaces or shell-special characters instead of letting the shell split or interpret them unexpectedly.
Also decide how the CLI handles invalid input, missing permissions, unavailable upstream commands, and failed data collection. Check command exit statuses and distinguish a failed report from a successful report with no data. Document runtime dependencies, supported operating systems and Bash versions, required permissions, and failure behavior; Bash itself does not choose these project-specific policies.

Use static analysis, but validate the report separately
ShellCheck can help identify issues in shell scripts, and its documented diagnostic formats include text and JSON. Use it as a script-quality aid during development, not as evidence that a report’s values are accurate. Validate inputs, inspect command exit statuses, and check the produced data against the systems that supply it. Static analysis cannot establish the correctness of external system data.

Decide where portability matters
Before relying on platform-specific utilities or shell behavior, choose the operating systems and Bash versions the tool will support. Portability can reduce friction across different operator workstations and runners; platform-specific dependencies may be reasonable when the deployment environment is controlled. State the supported environment and required tools so users know what must be installed before they run a report.
