Its clearest differences from standard contents cover are automatic accidental-damage and motor-burnout cover, plus a stated two years of temporary accommodation after a covered event makes the home unliveable. Whether those features suit you depends on the quote, selected options, excess and current policy wording.
What is Bank of us Contents Plus?
It is a contents-insurance product distributed by Bank of us and issued by Insurance Australia Limited under the CGU brand. Bank of us says it acts under its own Australian Financial Services Licence and under an agreement with Insurance Australia Limited (AFSL 227681). The bank’s disclosure index lists CGU Product Disclosure Documents and Target Market Determinations dated 20 May 2025; confirm which documents apply to a current quote rather than assuming that date identifies the governing version for every later offer. Contents cover is intended for belongings, not the rental building or items owned by the landlord. Check the current policy wording to determine what qualifies as your contents, particularly for belongings shared with housemates, items supplied with the rental, or property used for work. Do not treat a contents policy as a substitute for building insurance.

Bank of us lists events such as fire, theft, flood or rainwater run-off, storm, escape of water or liquid, and earthquake in its product comparison. An event name alone does not establish that every loss is covered: definitions, exclusions, limits and the circumstances of the damage are governed by the current PDS and your Certificate of Insurance.
What does Contents Plus add over standard contents cover?

Is temporary accommodation useful for renters?
It can be a meaningful difference if a covered event leaves your rental unliveable. Bank of us says Contents Plus provides two years of temporary accommodation, against 12 months with standard contents cover. CGU describes the tenant benefit as reasonable extra rent costs after a covered event makes the home unliveable.

Does renters contents insurance cover belongings outside the home?
Bank of us describes portable contents as optional cover for loss, theft and accidental damage away from home. Its page states a limit of up to $10,000 per item unless an item is listed separately for more. It also identifies restrictions, including scratches and dents, items being cleaned or repaired, some sporting or work-use items, and travel beyond Australia or New Zealand.
Do not assume portable cover is included in your quote or that every item and activity qualifies. Confirm the option is selected, whether valuable items need to be specified, the applicable excess and the geographic and activity restrictions in the current PDS.

How to decide whether Plus fits your belongings
- Make a belongings inventory. Estimate the replacement cost of the contents you own, including furniture, clothing, electronics and household goods. Use the online calculator as a guide, not as a binding assessment of what you should insure.
- Identify the risks and options that matter to you. Consider whether accidental damage, motor burnout, portable cover or higher limits for specified valuables address risks relevant to your belongings and routine.
- Compare Plus with standard cover on the same basis. Check what is included or optional, benefit limits, exclusions and excesses, and compare quotes with equivalent insured amounts and options.
- Read the quote documents before deciding. Verify the premium, payment terms, selected options, insured amount, excess and policy wording in the quote, current PDS and Certificate of Insurance.
Bank of us says fortnightly, monthly or quarterly payments are available at no extra cost. That describes payment frequency, not whether a premium is competitive. The cost depends on your circumstances and selected cover; the product page does not establish an individual price.
The page also asks, “Can I insure for more than your online building and contents calculator says?” It says the calculator is a guide and that CGU will pay only the fair and reasonable amount repairs should cost. Because that answer refers to building and contents calculations and repair costs, do not treat it as a definitive rule for a renter’s contents sum insured; check the PDS and your quote documents.

What the product page cannot tell you
- Your premium: It requires a quote based on factors including applicant, address, selected insured amount, options and payment choice.
- Your full excess schedule: Bank of us says excesses may apply and refers customers to the Certificate of Insurance.
- Every exclusion and claim condition: The product page is not a substitute for the current PDS and the terms shown in your certificate.
- Whether a claim will be accepted: Listed features do not establish an outcome for a particular claim or item.
- Claims performance: Bank of us says CGU’s claims team can be reached by telephone on 13 24 80, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. That service detail does not establish approval rates, response times or customer satisfaction.
