For looping uploaded videos into a live output, Nimble Streamer is the more directly relevant of these two tools. Its Server Playlist feature is designed to create a live stream from video files and/or live sources, with loop controls—but it requires the Live Transcoder package/license. AWS Elemental MediaPackage has a different role: it packages an upstream live feed for playback by downstream players or CDNs. It is not documented as a local-file playlist scheduler, and by itself it is not a complete way to create and publish a YouTube loop.

These are not interchangeable products. Nimble can supply the playout function; MediaPackage sits downstream of an encoder or other upstream source and prepares its feed for playback. AWS describes MediaPackage uses that include live, VOD, live-to-VOD, and catch-up TV, but that breadth does not make it a file-looping YouTube encoder.

Define playlist blocks and output
Softvelum’s Playout Wizard lets an operator define a stream, specify file paths or live sources, arrange blocks, and configure optional loop behavior. The playlist documentation also describes MaxIterations and TotalDuration for repeating VOD content. Use the current Softvelum documentation to select the setting that matches whether the playlist should repeat a fixed number of times or run for a specified total duration.

Include the required license
Server Playlist requires Nimble Streamer’s Live Transcoder package/license. Account for that dependency before comparing Nimble’s total cost with a managed service or an AWS workflow. Softvelum’s product page listed USD 50 per month at the time of the cited research; verify current pricing and what that charge includes directly with Softvelum.
Connect its output to YouTube only after verifying compatibility
Softvelum’s protocol matrix, marked updated August 2026, lists RTMP as both an input and output protocol: Nimble protocol matrix. That establishes Nimble protocol support, not that every configuration is accepted by YouTube or that a specific YouTube channel is eligible to stream. Softvelum also says on its product page that YouTube recommends Nimble among approved encoders for YouTube Live RTMP and upcoming SRT ingest; that is Softvelum’s own statement, not independently verified here.

Before configuring a live output, confirm YouTube’s current ingest protocol, account eligibility, stream-key setup, and rules for continuous or repeated content in YouTube’s own help materials. The cited sources do not establish the current YouTube requirements or provide a verified end-to-end YouTube setup recipe, so no particular stream-key path or continuous-stream policy should be assumed from Nimble’s protocol support alone.
What MediaPackage contributes—and what it does not
MediaPackage v1 live flow
AWS describes the v1 live workflow as an upstream encoder sending an HLS live stream to MediaPackage. MediaPackage then packages content in response to downstream playback requests and delivers it over HTTPS. That is an origination and delivery workflow, not a scheduler that takes local files and repeats them as a live YouTube output. See AWS v1 live flow.

MediaPackage v2 live flow
The v2 workflow is version-specific: the upstream source sends HLS with AWS Signature Version 4 authorization, and a player or CDN requests an endpoint whose settings determine dynamic packaging. AWS lists HLS and CMAF over HTTPS as supported live inputs; the source must include at least one video track and input segments must not be encrypted. Endpoint types include TS/HLS and CMAF/HLS or DASH. Check the current AWS v2 live-flow documentation and supported inputs and outputs for the chosen implementation.
Do not combine v1 and v2 steps into one recipe: their input authorization and workflow details differ. In either case, MediaPackage expects an upstream feed and serves downstream playback requests; it does not replace the playlist or encoder that would have to produce the loop.

Time-shift quotas are not YouTube-loop recommendations
AWS’s live quotas documentation lists a maximum content age of 336 hours (14 days) for time-shifted viewing and a maximum time-shifted manifest length of 24 hours. These are MediaPackage time-shift limits, not recommended loop durations or proof of suitability for a particular YouTube setup. Confirm the applicable quota in the AWS region and account you plan to use.

There is no independent benchmark in the cited material showing that one product delivers better stream quality, reliability, or audience results than the other. Choose based on the work you need done: playlist playout versus packaging, required infrastructure, licensing, and the AWS version and workflow you can operate.
