There is no single flat monthly price for AWS Elemental MediaPackage in India. Its live charges are based on the volume of video ingested and the volume originated and packaged, measured in GB. AWS lists a MediaPackage V1 live endpoint in Mumbai (ap-south-1), but the published 24/7 pricing example is for US East (N. Virginia), not India. It does not establish a Mumbai monthly total or tax-inclusive INR price.
First check whether you need MediaPackage at all: a standard encoder-to-YouTube Live setup sends video directly to YouTube using its server URL and stream key. YouTube says it transcodes incoming live video for viewers; the documented direct workflow does not require MediaPackage.

How AWS MediaPackage charges for a live channel
MediaPackage live pricing is usage-based, not a flat fee for keeping one channel online. AWS meters the volume ingested and the volume of content originated and packaged, in GB. For a continuous channel, those amounts accumulate for as long as the service handles the stream.
Ingest: total input video volume
Ingest volume depends on the combined bitrate of every input stream and how many hours they run. Add the bitrates of all input renditions; if you send redundant inputs, include those too. Higher aggregate bitrate, more inputs, or more operating hours means more data ingested and therefore higher ingest charges.

Origination and packaging: volume fetched from MediaPackage
Origination and packaging charges depend on the content volume delivered from MediaPackage to a CDN. That is not necessarily the same as total viewer traffic: a CDN cache serves some requests without fetching the video again from MediaPackage. AWS recommends CloudFront caching as a way to reduce the amount originated and packaged by MediaPackage.
CDN delivery and other architecture components can add separate charges. Depending on the design, account for services such as MediaLive, CDN data transfer, and any applicable transfer charges for delivery outside AWS or through a CDN other than CloudFront. MediaPackage alone is not the total cost of a live-video system.

What is known about Mumbai pricing—and what is not
AWS’s endpoints-and-quotas reference lists a MediaPackage V1 live endpoint in Asia Pacific (Mumbai), region code ap-south-1. That establishes regional availability, not the applicable current rate, the currency on a particular account, taxes, or the final invoice. The available published worked example uses US East (N. Virginia); its rate must not be presented as India pricing.
For a real estimate, select Mumbai in the AWS Pricing Calculator, enter the workload below, and confirm the current price display for the MediaPackage generation you intend to use. Check billing currency and tax treatment separately. Regional availability by itself does not settle those billing details.

AWS’s published 24/7 example: useful mechanics, not an India quote
AWS’s pricing page presents an illustrative live-linear workload for US East (N. Virginia). The example assumes two ingested channel inputs, five output renditions totaling 9.5 Mbps, an average viewing bitrate of 2 Mbps, average viewership of 1,000 viewers per hour, and a 97.5% CDN cache-hit ratio. AWS calculates 4.175 GB per hour for the rendition set and 21.97 GB per hour originated after caching, then gives an estimated combined ingest and origination/packaging cost of $1.3505 per hour at the rates used in that US example. AWS does not state a year for the pricing-page example.
Those figures describe AWS’s assumptions and US East rates only. They are not a forecast for an Indian channel. A different rendition ladder, input redundancy, audience size, viewing bitrate, cache-hit ratio, region, service generation, or current rate changes the calculation. The example is useful for seeing which workload variables matter; it cannot be converted into a defensible India monthly price by simple currency conversion.

Inputs needed for a responsible estimate
Before estimating a 24/7 workload, assemble these details. Without them, a single monthly figure creates false precision.

- AWS region: use the region where the service will run, such as Mumbai (ap-south-1), and verify its current rates.
- Input ladder and redundancy: list every input rendition’s bitrate, count the streams, and identify redundant inputs.
- Operating hours: specify the expected hours of ingest and packaging; a 24/7 schedule means continuous usage.
- Audience delivery: estimate average viewer bitrate and concurrent viewing, not just subscriber or peak-audience totals.
- CDN caching: estimate the cache-hit ratio and identify the CDN. More cache hits generally mean less content fetched from MediaPackage.
- Other services and billing: include any MediaLive inputs or outputs, CDN and data-transfer charges, billing currency, and taxes relevant to the account.
Do you need MediaPackage to stream directly to YouTube?
Usually, not for the basic encoder-to-YouTube workflow described in YouTube Help. An encoder sends the feed to the YouTube Live server URL using the stream key shown in Live Control Room. YouTube recommends RTMPS as a secure option, automatically transcodes incoming live video for viewers, and advises testing and monitoring stream health.

MediaPackage is an origin and packaging service for players and downstream CDNs. It can be relevant when a system also needs that separate playback or distribution workflow, but the presence of a 24/7 YouTube channel alone is not evidence that it is required. Decide whether that separate architecture is needed before pricing it. YouTube’s published encoder bitrate recommendations by resolution, frame rate, and codec are ingest guidance; they are not MediaPackage rates.
Ways to keep a YouTube channel live around the clock
Choose the method that matches what the channel actually needs. For a direct feed, price the encoder or production approach and network path first; add MediaPackage only when the design has a reason to use its origin and packaging capabilities.

MediaPackage V1 and V2 are not interchangeable for estimates
AWS’s MediaPackage V2 guide also describes per-GB charges for content received and streamed out, and says content cached and served from a CDN does not incur that per-GB MediaPackage charge. Confirm which generation the system uses, then use the corresponding current pricing information rather than applying V1 assumptions or rates to V2.
