For a YouTube channel built around looping prerecorded videos, Gyre is the closer fit of these two: its documented workflow is to upload files, arrange a playlist, connect YouTube, and start or schedule a continuous stream. AWS Elemental MediaLive can support 24/7 channel workflows, but it is a configurable live-video encoding service—not a documented one-click playlist tool. Choose MediaLive when you need its encoding control or AWS integrations and can design and price the full setup.
What each service is designed to do
AWS Elemental MediaLive
AWS Elemental MediaLive is a cloud service for processing and encoding live video sources. AWS highlights input switching, channel deployment, encoding controls, and integration with other AWS media services. Its feature documentation includes flexible 24×7 workflows as well as event streams. That capability does not, by itself, establish a ready-made workflow for uploading prerecorded files and looping them as a scheduled YouTube playlist.

Gyre
Gyre describes a workflow specifically for prerecorded video: upload or convert files, arrange them into a playlist, connect a YouTube account, then start or schedule the broadcast. Gyre says the playlist restarts at the end and runs on its servers, so a local computer does not need to remain on. These are Gyre’s product claims, not independently tested results.

YouTube’s verified encoder list includes both AWS Elemental MediaLive and Gyre. YouTube clarifies, “None of these products are made by YouTube.” Inclusion means they appear on YouTube’s list; it does not mean YouTube owns or endorses either service.

Which one should you choose?
Choose Gyre if the playlist is the product
For a creator whose main task is keeping prerecorded videos on air, Gyre’s documented upload-to-playlist workflow maps more directly to the job. Check the plan carefully for the resolution, number of simultaneous streams, storage, playlist, and scheduler features you need.
Choose MediaLive if you need a configurable AWS video workflow
MediaLive is more relevant when you need to control encoding and build a channel that fits a broader AWS media setup. The trade-off is operational design: the operator must configure the necessary resources rather than assume a creator-ready loop-and-schedule product.

Compare actual configurations, not headline prices
MediaLive costs depend on the AWS region and the running inputs, outputs, and add-ons. AWS says running resources are billed with a ten-minute minimum and rounded up to the nearest minute; charges can continue while a channel is running even if it has no active input or output. AWS offers on-demand and reserved pricing, with reservations involving a commitment. Resolution, bitrate, frame rate, codec, output count, and channel design also affect an estimate. Gyre’s pricing page lists a seven-day free trial and monthly plans shown at $49, $99, and $169. It lists, for example, one HD stream on Start, up to four HD streams or one 4K stream on Start+, and up to eight HD streams or two 4K streams on PRO+. Storage and playlist or scheduler features differ by plan. Prices, features, and limits can change, and the page presents multiple billing durations; verify the current terms before subscribing. For a fair cost comparison, first specify the number of streams, quality, schedule, storage, and resilience you need. Then estimate the matching MediaLive configuration in your region and compare it with a Gyre plan that actually includes the required capacity and features. Neither a generic AWS estimate nor a Gyre entry price alone answers what your channel will cost.
What continuous streaming can—and cannot—promise
A continuous stream is a delivery method, not proof that a channel will gain watch time, qualify for monetization, or earn revenue. Gyre’s vendor-reported growth examples are not independent evidence that continuous streaming causes those outcomes, and the reviewed official product materials do not provide an independently audited results comparison between Gyre and MediaLive.

Before streaming prerecorded material, confirm you have the rights to use the video and audio, and review YouTube’s current channel monetization policies. Permission to stream content and eligibility for monetization are separate questions; repetitive or reused material can raise monetization issues even when a stream is technically running.
