Secure the local copy before closing the capture tab or window: an undownloaded Local-mode screenshot may be lost. Saving locally does not repair a failed cloud upload; it preserves the image so you can deal with the upload separately.
Save the capture that is open now
- Keep the Awesome Screenshot capture tab or window open.
- Click Download beside the screenshot.
- Check the browser’s configured downloads folder for the saved image. If the browser asks whether the extension may manage downloads, allow it.
Awesome Screenshot’s help instructions describe this Download button as the manual save method for a Local-mode capture: How to save screenshots to local drive. If the button is not immediately visible, do not close the capture page while looking for it.

Turn on automatic downloads for future captures
For the Chrome and Edge extensions, Awesome Screenshot offers an Auto-download screenshots option. It is off by default according to the help article. Once enabled, future captures selected for Local mode download automatically, avoiding a manual click for each capture.
- Open the Awesome Screenshot extension’s Options.
- Enable Auto-download screenshots.
- If the browser prompts with Manage your downloads, click Allow.
The published steps and permission prompt are documented here: Auto-download screenshots. This setting is documented for Chrome and Edge extensions; do not assume the same control is available in other browsers.

Manual Download or Auto-download?

Find the saved file or correct its destination
The file goes to the browser’s configured download location. In the documented Chrome workflow, the browser’s configured download folder is the base location even if the extension specifies a subfolder. If the file appears in an unexpected folder, check the browser’s download settings and the extension’s folder configuration.
If the destination still seems wrong, Awesome Screenshot says another extension may be conflicting. Test in a fresh browser profile with only Awesome Screenshot installed, as described in its screenshot storage and location guidance.

Save as PDF instead
In the Local-mode workflow, click PDF beside the capture. The PDF option appears only when Auto-download is off, according to Awesome Screenshot’s instructions. For a Cloud capture, open More and choose Download as PDF. See How to save screenshots as PDF.

What to do about the failed upload
The local-save instructions do not establish why a cloud upload failed or identify a particular upload error. Treat the two actions separately: first click Download to preserve the image; then retry or troubleshoot the cloud copy only if you need it or need a shareable link. Awesome Screenshot says a saved image can later be uploaded with Upload to get shareable link: Where are my screenshots saved?
