If Awesome Screenshot stays on “Capturing page,” first check whether the webpage is waiting for you to dismiss a prompt or finish an action. Then restart Chrome, update the browser and extension, and test the extension’s state and possible conflicts. The message alone does not identify one specific cause, so work through these checks in order.
Check whether the webpage needs an action
Before changing Chrome settings, look for something on the page that could be blocking capture: a cookie or consent dialog, sign-in prompt, modal, loading state, or another instruction. Awesome Screenshot’s general troubleshooting guidance notes that a page may require an action, such as clicking a button, before its workflow can continue. Complete or dismiss the prompt if appropriate, then try the capture again.

Confirm you are using the full-page capture workflow
- Open the page you want to capture in Chrome.
- Click the Awesome Screenshot extension icon.
- Choose Capture, then Full Page.
This is the documented path for a full-page or scrolling screenshot. If the capture hangs, continue with the troubleshooting steps below.
Restart Chrome and your computer
Save any work, close and reopen Chrome, and retry the capture. If that does not help, restart the computer and try again. Awesome Screenshot recommends restarting as a general check when screenshot or recording functions stop working; it is a diagnostic step, not a guaranteed fix.

Update Chrome and the extension
Check that Chrome and Awesome Screenshot are up to date, install available updates, then restart Chrome and test again. The Chrome Web Store listed Awesome Screen Recorder & Screenshot as version 4.4.44, updated September 11, 2026. That is the store listing at that date, not a promise about the version installed in your browser; check your own extension’s version and available updates.
Turn the extension off and on
- In Chrome, open Extensions and select Manage extensions.
- Turn Awesome Screenshot off, wait briefly, and turn it back on.
- Return to the page and try Capture → Full Page again.
If the capture still hangs, restart Chrome once more before moving on.

Test for a conflict with another extension
Other extensions can interfere with browser behavior. Create a new Chrome profile and test with only Awesome Screenshot installed. If it works in that profile, the original profile likely has a conflicting extension or setting. Re-enable your other extensions one at a time, testing after each, to narrow down which one causes the problem. The clean-profile test is vendor guidance; re-enabling extensions methodically is a practical way to isolate a conflict.

Reinstall only after the simpler checks
If checking the page, restarting, updating, toggling the extension, and testing a clean profile have not resolved the problem, remove Awesome Screenshot and install it again from its official Chrome Web Store listing. Restart Chrome, then retry the full-page capture. Reinstallation may reset extension state, so use it after the less disruptive checks.

If the capture remains stuck
Record what happens and contact Awesome Screenshot support. The vendor recommends providing a screenshot of the error or a shareable recording, identifying where the issue occurs, and noting the time. Its troubleshooting index also lists focused guides for collecting extension service-worker console information, the captured page’s console, and an MHTML file. Those diagnostics are available if support asks for them; most users do not need to start by inspecting logs.
Use another capture route for a one-off
If the Chrome extension remains unusable, Awesome Screenshot lists its Windows or Mac desktop app, website recorder, and Edge extension as alternatives. They are fallback routes, not confirmed fixes for the Chrome problem, and the available materials do not establish that each preserves every extension feature.
