Microsoft Snipping Tool: simplest for Windows
For a quick screenshot without a browser extension or separate capture workflow, use the tool already included with Windows. Press Windows + Shift + S to open an image snapshot, then choose a rectangular, window, full-screen, or freeform capture. Print Screen copies a full-screen image to the clipboard. For video capture, Microsoft documents Windows + Shift + R.
Editing and text extraction
Snipping Tool’s editor includes pen and highlighter, shapes, crop, undo and redo, and text actions. Its text recognition runs locally on the device and can copy recognized text or quickly redact email addresses and phone numbers. Video snips can be saved or opened in Clipchamp for editing.

Microsoft says Perfect Screenshot and Color Picker are available only on Windows 11 Copilot+ PCs. Do not assume those features—or identical controls—are available on every Windows installation.

Local capture versus uploads
ShareX offers post-capture actions and upload destinations, with links that can be copied or shared. The site says the app requires no account to use, but that does not mean every destination accepts uploads without its own account. Check which destination is selected before sending sensitive material, or keep the workflow local if you only need a file on your computer.

Loom Desktop: screenshots within a sharing workflow
Loom documents custom-area and full-screen screenshots, text, rectangle and arrow annotations, crop, blur, and sharing by copying a link, downloading, or pasting into another application.
