In Avast Antivirus for Windows, it silences notifications when an app on its list is running fullscreen; it does not activate when that app is windowed. Avast says the feature is free in Avast Free Antivirus and Avast Premium Security. Avast’s FAQ explains the feature and its availability.
What does Avast Do Not Disturb Mode do?
Do Not Disturb Mode is designed to prevent interruptions during fullscreen use. Avast says it can silence notifications from Windows, Avast Antivirus, and other applications while a listed app is fullscreen. The first time a fullscreen app is detected, Avast adds it to the mode’s list. On subsequent launches, the mode activates automatically when that app runs fullscreen.

The fullscreen condition is important: opening a listed app in a window does not trigger the mode, so notifications continue. These instructions describe Avast Antivirus on Windows; the documented menus and behavior should not be assumed to apply to other platforms.

How to find and configure it in Avast Antivirus
Open Avast Antivirus and go to Performance → Do Not Disturb Mode. From there, you can manage the app list and choose what the mode suppresses. Avast’s getting-started guide lists these controls.

For an app in the list, Avast offers a Maximize performance option. Avast describes it as prioritizing the app while it is fullscreen and setting Windows to high performance mode. This is a vendor description of the setting, not evidence of a guaranteed speed increase; the cited instructions do not provide independent benchmark results.
How to remove Do Not Disturb Mode
To uninstall the component in Avast Antivirus, open Menu → Settings → General → Troubleshooting → Add / modify components, deselect Do Not Disturb Mode, and restart the computer. Avast documents this removal path in its support instructions.

Avast Antivirus and Avast One are not identical
Avast One has a related Do Not Disturb Mode, but its instructions are separate from Avast Antivirus. Avast One documents controls for third-party and Avast One notifications, Windows Updates, automatic app addition, app-list management, and Maximize performance. Its FAQ says the mode is enabled by default and cannot be disabled completely, though automatic activation can be turned off for individual apps. Avast says the mode is available in all Avast One versions. See Avast One’s separate instructions.
For Avast Antivirus, Avast says Do Not Disturb Mode is free in both Avast Free Antivirus and Avast Premium Security. Do not confuse it with Passive Mode: Avast describes Passive Mode as receiving definition and program updates and allowing manual scans, while not actively protecting the device. Avast explains Passive Mode separately.
