Auracast is Bluetooth LE Audio broadcast: a compatible transmitter sends audio for multiple compatible receivers to tune in, rather than making a separate audio connection to each listener. A phone can help find and select a broadcast, but it is not necessarily the device receiving the audio. Whether it works for you depends on explicit support in the transmitter, assistant (if used) and listening device—not simply the Bluetooth version number.
How Auracast works
Think of Auracast as a radio broadcast carried over Bluetooth LE Audio. A compatible transmitter announces one or more available audio streams. A compatible receiver—such as earbuds, headphones, hearing devices or a dedicated receiver—joins a selected stream and plays it.
A phone or other compatible device can act as an assistant: it scans for broadcasts and provides an interface to choose one, then passes the joining information to the receiver. The assistant helps control discovery and selection; the receiver listens to the audio. As the Bluetooth SIG puts it, “Unlike previous Bluetooth audio solutions, your smartphone does not take part in receiving the Auracast™ audio.” (Bluetooth SIG, A New Generation of Audio Innovation, February 2025.)
This differs from conventional one-to-one Bluetooth audio, in which a source establishes an individual connection with a listening device. The SIG says any number of in-range Auracast receivers can join the same broadcast without requiring extra transmitter bandwidth for each listener. That describes the broadcast design, not a guarantee of unlimited distance or reception through every wall or building.

What you can use Auracast for
Share audio with a group
A compatible phone or other source can broadcast audio so a group can listen on their own compatible devices. Google describes Android sharing via a QR code or Fast Pair tap, including shared listening experiences such as a silent disco. This depends on the specific phone, receiver and software being supported; an Android device is not automatically Auracast-ready. (Google’s Android announcement.)
Listen to public TVs and venue audio
A venue could broadcast audio for otherwise-silent public TVs in places such as airports, gyms, waiting rooms, sports bars and transit centers. The same approach can deliver public-address or program audio in conference centers, theatres, cinemas, lecture halls, places of worship and airport terminals. A venue could offer multiple streams, for example different languages, but that depends on its installation and how it labels and provides access to those streams. - 【NOT FOR Bluetooth Headphones Or Speakers】 This is NOT a Classic Bluetooth adapter and does not support Bluetooth headphones, speakers, earbuds, or LE Audio unicast devices.
- 【Limited Compatibility – USB-C Audio Source Only】 Works only with devices that output audio via USB-C; not compatible with TVs, cars, or game consoles, even if they have a USB-C port.
Use hearing devices for assistive listening
A compatible hearing device can receive an Auracast stream, while a phone or another assistant may help its wearer discover and select it. The Bluetooth SIG describes Auracast as a standards-based radio-frequency system recognized under the ADA’s performance-based Assistive Listening Systems framework. That description is not individual legal advice: venues should assess the legal and technical requirements that apply to their particular installation.
The SIG’s February 2025 paper reports a demonstration at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in which one transmitter covered all 1,085 seats. That is a result reported for that specific hall and demonstration, not a general range specification or a promise that one transmitter will cover any venue. What devices are compatible?
Auracast relies on Bluetooth LE Audio features and the Public Broadcast Profile (PBP). Bluetooth Core Specification 5.2 introduced relevant capabilities, but a product labelled Bluetooth 5.2 or newer is not, on that basis alone, Auracast-compatible. Check the manufacturer’s specifications for the exact model and confirm that its current firmware or operating system supports LE Audio broadcast and the role you need: transmitter, receiver or assistant. The Bluetooth SIG says an existing product could potentially gain support through an upgrade, depending on its hardware and manufacturer; it expects many TVs to require a hardware upgrade. (Bluetooth SIG, Auracast FAQ.)
For Android phones, Google’s compatibility notice names selected devices, not every Android phone: Pixel 8 series and newer; Samsung flagship models released since 2023, including Galaxy S23, S24 and S25 and Z Fold5, Z Fold6 and Z Fold7; and selected Xiaomi and POCO models. The list can change, so check Google’s current notice and the device maker’s documentation for the exact model and software. Google also says both the phone and headphones must support LE Audio. Hearing-aid compatibility is equally specific. In an announcement dated March 13, 2025, Google described pairing LE Audio-compatible hearing aids from GN Hearing and Starkey with Samsung Galaxy devices running One UI 7 and Android 15, or Pixel 9 devices running the Android 16 beta, to tune into broadcasts from compatible TV streamers or venues. Under the described conditions, Pixel 9 devices could connect through QR codes. This announcement does not establish compatibility for all hearing aids, phones or software versions. If you want to listen
Choose a receiver whose maker explicitly identifies Auracast support, such as compatible earbuds, headphones, hearing devices or a dedicated venue receiver. The Bluetooth SIG product directory groups products by Auracast role, but the SIG describes it as informative and says availability can change. Verify the exact model and current manufacturer information before relying on a listing. (Bluetooth SIG Auracast product directory.)

If you want to broadcast from a TV or other source
First check whether the TV, laptop, phone or sound system can transmit Auracast. If it cannot, a dedicated aftermarket transmitter may add the capability, provided it supports the required broadcast role and has an input that works with your source. A TV’s Bluetooth audio output alone does not prove that it can transmit an Auracast broadcast. Check the transmitter’s supported input and connection type before buying. The SIG describes plug-and-play transmitters as an expected way to add Auracast to TVs and other product categories. (Bluetooth SIG, Auracast FAQ.)
If you need a phone to find broadcasts
Confirm that the phone supports Auracast discovery or assistant functions and that the listening device supports receiving the broadcast. Assistant support on a phone does not make an incompatible pair of headphones or hearing aids a receiver.
If you are planning a venue installation
Installed systems can support assistive listening, public announcements and multiple audio or language streams. Auri describes venue systems for settings including classrooms, corporate boardrooms, arenas and transport hubs, with venue-provided receivers as an option. Those are installed systems, not simply consumer accessories; the venue needs to plan the transmitter role, audio inputs, coverage and listener access for its space. (Auri’s venue guide.)
Compatibility checks before you buy or connect
- Confirm the role: determine whether each product transmits, receives, assists with discovery, or supports more than one role.
- Check explicit support: look for Auracast or LE Audio broadcast and PBP support in the exact model’s documentation; do not rely on a generic Bluetooth version or a proprietary sharing feature.
- Check the whole chain: verify compatibility among the source or transmitter, assistant if needed, and receiver, including current firmware and operating system.
- Match the connection: for a separate transmitter, make sure its audio input works with the TV or other source.
- Check local availability: product listings and regional availability can change.
The Bluetooth SIG says developers must complete its Bluetooth Qualification Process to use Auracast trademarks with qualified products. Look for clear manufacturer claims about the supported role and qualification status rather than inferring interoperability from a Bluetooth logo alone.
