Aura vs Experian IdentityWorks: Key Facts for Choosing in 2026

There is no clear, evidence-based winner for every reader. Aura is the more straightforward fit if you want a choice of household sizes and bundled privacy and family features. Experian IdentityWorks Premium may suit someone focused on its credit and personal-information monitoring, but its seven-day trial requires a payment card and converts to a paid plan unless canceled on time. Compare the exact plan and insurance policy—not just the headline coverage—before choosing.

At a glance: what the plans cost and cover

The prices below were listed on the providers’ official pages accessed October 7, 2026. They are current offers, not guaranteed permanent rates. Aura publishes three household plans; Experian’s cited trial and monthly conversion price apply to IdentityWorks Premium.

Which service fits your household?

Choose Aura if you need a defined household plan

Aura’s listed Individual, Couple, and Family tiers make it easier to match the subscription to the number of adults and children in a household. The Family plan’s child identity alerts and parental controls may be useful when those features matter alongside identity protection. Aura advertises a 14-day free trial and a 60-day money-back guarantee on annual plans; check the terms for eligibility and how to claim it.

Consider Experian IdentityWorks if its monitoring offering is your priority

Experian Premium lists credit monitoring and personal-information exposure alerts. Its trial is short, however, and the paid conversion is automatic unless canceled within seven days. Set a reminder as soon as you enroll if you intend to evaluate the trial without continuing.

Experian says monitoring for Experian begins within 48 hours. Equifax and TransUnion monitoring takes approximately four days and, in some cases, may not start during the trial. So the trial should not be treated as guaranteed immediate three-bureau monitoring.

Compare trial and billing terms before enrolling

  • Aura: Its listed prices distinguish monthly billing from a lower monthly equivalent when billed annually. The 14-day trial and 60-day money-back guarantee apply as described on Aura’s plans page; verify the current offer and terms before payment.
  • Experian IdentityWorks Premium: The seven-day trial requires a credit card and becomes $24.99 per month if you do not cancel within the trial window. Confirm how to cancel and when the deadline falls for your enrollment.

These offers are not directly interchangeable: Aura lists both recurring billing options, while the Experian price above is the post-trial monthly charge for Premium.

Do not compare insurance by headline limits alone

Aura advertises identity theft insurance of up to $1 million per adult, including higher household totals on Couple and Family. Experian advertises up to $1 million for Premium. Neither headline establishes that every identity-related loss is reimbursable: the applicable policy’s covered expenses, exclusions, limits, and conditions govern. Experian also says coverage may not be available in every jurisdiction and that its policies are underwritten by AIG affiliates.

Do not use Experian’s Core insurance summary to infer Premium coverage. The Core summary describes a $100,000 aggregate limit per policy period, lost wages of up to $1,500 per week for no more than five weeks, up to $2,000 for elder, spousal, and child care, up to $1,000 for an initial legal consultation, and a $0 deductible. Those figures apply to the Core summary, not the Premium policy. The summary is not the complete policy; it says covered events must be reported within 90 days of discovery and members must follow the Fraud Resolution Unit’s instructions. See Experian’s Core insurance summary for its terms.

How to make the choice

  1. Count the people and devices to cover. Match your household to Aura’s listed tiers, and confirm whether the Experian product you are considering covers the people and devices you expect.
  2. Decide which features you will use. Prioritize family alerts, parental controls, or child SSN alerts if those are important; otherwise compare the monitoring and alerts that matter to you.
  3. Compare the actual payment commitment. Account for annual billing versus monthly billing, and note Experian Premium’s seven-day cancellation window before starting its trial.
  4. Read the policy for your exact plan and location. Check covered expenses, exclusions, claim conditions, jurisdictional availability, and limits rather than relying on a marketing maximum.

What the available comparison establishes

The official provider pages describe different plan structures and features; they do not establish a universal, independently tested winner. Aura’s household tiers and bundled family features support a conditional preference for households wanting those options. Experian IdentityWorks Premium is a potential fit for readers who prioritize its stated monitoring offer and accept its trial-to-paid terms. Verify current prices and documents directly with each provider before enrolling.
