Audible announced three AI-assisted features designed to add character information, interactive conversations and visual context to selected audiobooks. Character Guide and Interactive Story have launch examples tied to Dracula, while Audible also named 1984, forthcoming Exoplanet and The Cultural Tutor’s Grand Tour in different feature roles. At the announcement on October 1, 2026, the features were rolling out in a limited beta for Audible customers in the United States and United Kingdom.
What are Audible’s three new story features?
The features address different listening needs: following a cast, talking with a character in a separate experience, or exploring images and other context alongside audio. Audible describes them as AI-assisted and says they were developed in collaboration with creators.

| Feature | What it does | Named title examples and stage |
|---|---|---|
| Character Guide | Identifies who is speaking and offers spoiler-free character cards. | Bram Stoker’s Dracula began on October 1; also available with 1984; planned for Exoplanet on November 5. |
| Interactive Story | Adds a generative-AI conversation with a character outside the original narrative. | A Dracula experience was the first example; another was planned for Exoplanet on November 5. |
| Visual Explorer | Surfaces relevant imagery and visual context during listening. | Described as coming soon; The Cultural Tutor’s Grand Tour: The Story of Europe in Six Cities offers additional images and information. |
These examples do not mean every feature is available with every title. Audible’s announcement describes title-specific uses and rollout stages, not universal support. Audible’s October 1, 2026 announcement is the source for the feature descriptions and availability statements.

Character Guide appears on the player page and helps listeners keep track of who is speaking in real time. It also offers spoiler-free character cards featuring performers, including narrator headshots and biographies. Audible said questions about the production would come later; it did not describe that as part of the initial feature.

The first named title was the Audible Original Bram Stoker’s Dracula, with the feature beginning October 1, 2026. Audible also said Character Guide was available with George Orwell’s 1984 and planned for Exoplanet on November 5, 2026.
Can listeners talk to a story character?
Interactive Story lets a listener take part in a real-time conversation with a character, using generative AI, conversational design and sound production. It is a bonus experience outside the original narrative, not a replacement for or a change to the audiobook itself.

In the first announced example, accompanying Dracula, Renfield speaks first, gives the listener a role and goal with stakes, and then responds to the listener’s own words. Audible says creators establish foundations such as opening scenes, turning points and a character’s persona. A second example was planned for Exoplanet on November 5, 2026.

What is Visual Explorer?
Visual Explorer is intended to surface imagery and visual context at relevant points in a listening experience—for example, maps or images connected to pivotal moments. Audible described it as coming soon in its October 1 announcement.
Audible also cited The Cultural Tutor’s Grand Tour: The Story of Europe in Six Cities, where listeners can explore additional images and bonus information about landmarks, figures and places. Sheehan Quirke, known as The Cultural Tutor, said: “I was able to shape what listeners see and when they see it, so the imagery isn’t just illustrative but is genuinely part of the storytelling.”

Who can use the features, and when?
As of Audible’s October 1, 2026 announcement, all three features were rolling out in a limited beta for Audible customers in the United States and United Kingdom. Audible said it would evolve them based on customer and creator feedback.
The announcement does not give a general-release date or specify device requirements, app versions, account tiers, or detailed title-eligibility rules. It also does not establish that all beta customers will see every feature or title. Audible says creators work closely on the features and set foundations for Interactive Stories, and that product design aims to keep the experience faithful to a creator’s vision; those are the company’s descriptions of its process.

How the features differ
- Character Guide is for orientation: it helps listeners identify speakers and learn about characters and performers.
- Interactive Story is for participation: it adds a conversation with a character beyond the audiobook’s original narrative.
- Visual Explorer is for context: it adds imagery and related information to selected listening moments.
Audible Chief Content Officer Rachel Ghiazza described the announcement on October 1, 2026, as “These new features invite listeners into a story in ways that simply weren’t possible before, marking the latest step in our nearly 30-year journey top push audio storytelling forward,” The phrase “nearly 30-year journey” is part of her statement, not an independently documented statistic in the announcement.
