Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks, a built-in mod installer and up to three free backups a day.
For hosting, plan on Java 17 or newer and start with roughly 8 GB of memory for a small group. A busier world with several players, multiple dimensions, and large automation systems is better served by 10–12 GB, plus additional resources for the operating system, storage, backups, and the Java process.

All the Mods 9 – To the Sky is the skyblock entry in the All the Mods family. Instead of generating a conventional overworld, it starts you with a tiny platform and a tree above the void. The official project description sums up the premise: “Starting with only a tree, fill the void with large amounts of technology and magic!”
The pack is intentionally open-ended. Progress comes from expanding the island, automating resource production, exploring additional dimensions, and combining technology and magic systems. Automation is a major part of the experience; the official description specifically highlights content such as Ex Machinis: Divitiae Deorum. Because the pack contains many interacting mods and configuration files, it should be treated as a complete software distribution rather than a list of mods to assemble by hand.

Pack releases can change. Before installing, open the official CurseForge project page and confirm that the client file and server archive have the same release number. Do not assume that the newest client file works with an older server archive.
What you need before installing
Java
The current independent ATM setup guidance identifies Java 17 or newer as the compatibility baseline for ATM9. Install a 64-bit Java runtime or development kit on the computer that will run the client or server. A 32-bit runtime cannot address enough memory for a large modpack.
After installation, verify the runtime from a terminal or command prompt with:
java -version
The output should identify Java 17 or a later supported release. If the command is not found, install Java or add its bin directory to the system path before attempting to launch Forge.
Storage and operating-system headroom
Reserve more SSD space than the initial archive size. You need room for the extracted server, Forge libraries, logs, player data, backups, and world growth. ATM packs can expand substantially as players create new dimensions, structures, and automated factories. Keep the operating system and swap or paging facilities from competing with a nearly full drive.

A compatible launcher
For client play, use a launcher that can import CurseForge modpacks. General modpack-capable choices include the Modrinth App, Prism Launcher, and ATLauncher, although the official ATM9 Sky distribution remains the CurseForge project. A launcher may download the pack and manage its instance, but it does not remove the need to select the exact release and Java runtime.
How to install ATM9 To the Sky on a client
- Open the official project listing. Locate the ATM9 To the Sky release identified as
atm9sky-1.1.9, or confirm the current release if the project has advanced since this guide was prepared. - Install through a CurseForge-compatible launcher. Choose the project, select the required release, and let the launcher create a separate instance. Keeping the pack in its own instance prevents its mods and configurations from colliding with vanilla or other modpacks.
- Set the Java runtime. In the launcher’s instance or global Java settings, select a 64-bit Java 17-or-newer runtime. If the launcher bundles an incompatible runtime, replace it with the supported one.
- Allow the first installation to finish. Forge, libraries, mods, resource files, and configuration files may take several minutes to download and unpack. Do not copy individual mods into the instance while this process is running.
- Start the pack once in single-player. A first launch generates additional files and confirms that the loader can initialize. The initial startup is slower than later launches because caches and world data are being created.
- Record the exact instance version. Keep the release number visible in the launcher. Every player joining a private server should install that same ATM9 Sky release, not merely a similarly named pack.
Why manual mod assembly is a bad shortcut
A modpack is a bundle of mods plus configuration files. Two installations with the same broad mod list can still behave differently if a configuration, dependency, Forge build, or script is missing. The server archive exists to preserve the tested combination. Manual copying also makes later troubleshooting harder because you cannot easily tell which file diverged from the official release.
How to download and install the ATM9 Sky server
1. Choose the machine
You can run the server on a spare computer, a virtual machine, or a managed Minecraft host. The machine needs Java 17 or newer, adequate SSD capacity, a reliable network connection, and enough memory to leave headroom for the operating system. A desktop used for gaming can host a small world, but running the server and client on the same hardware divides CPU, memory, and storage resources.
2. Download the matching server archive
From the official CurseForge files section, download ServerFiles-1.1.9 when your clients are using atm9sky-1.1.9. If the project has a newer release, substitute its matching server archive. Do not download a generic Forge server and then add the client mods one at a time.
3. Extract into a dedicated directory
Create a directory used only by this world, such as atm9-sky-server. Extract the archive there rather than into a shared Minecraft folder. A dedicated directory makes backups, permissions, upgrades, and rollback much safer.

4. Run the supplied installer or startup script
Server archives normally include scripts that install the pinned Forge files and launch the server. Script names vary by release and operating system, so use the files included in the archive rather than copying a command from an unrelated pack. On Linux, you may need to make a script executable before running it. On Windows, launch the provided batch file from the extracted directory.
During the first run, the installer may download Forge components and stop because Minecraft’s EULA has not been accepted. Read the EULA, then set the value requested by the generated EULA file if you agree to its terms. Start the script again and allow the Forge installation to complete.
5. Start, stop, and inspect once
Let the server reach a ready state, then stop it through the server console rather than closing the terminal window. Review the generated properties and configuration files. Starting once before inviting players exposes missing Java paths, permission errors, corrupted downloads, or insufficient disk space while the world is still empty.
6. Set administration and access controls
Use the server console to grant operator privileges to the account that will administer the world. Keep operator access limited to trusted players. Configure the server’s address, difficulty, whitelist, and other settings in the generated files or console commands. Make a backup before changing major gameplay or world-generation settings.

- Keep the pack identical. Each player installs the same ATM9 Sky release, Minecraft version, Forge loader, and configuration set as the server.
- Make the server reachable. On a home network, configure the router’s port forwarding and the host computer’s firewall for the port selected in the server configuration. No pack-specific port number is established, so use the value shown in your own server properties rather than assuming one.
- Give players the correct address. Friends on the same local network can use the server’s private address. Remote players need the public address or a DNS name that points to it, subject to your internet provider’s restrictions.
- Join through Multiplayer. Players launch the matching ATM9 Sky instance, choose Multiplayer, add the server address, and connect. If the connection fails, check version alignment before changing Java arguments or deleting files.
For a home-hosted server, a changing public IP can make reconnection difficult. A DNS service that you control can provide a stable name, but it is separate from the modpack and must be secured like any other internet-facing service.

How much RAM ATM9 Sky needs
The practical planning figures below come from an independent ATM server guide, not an official ATMTeam minimum or benchmark. They are starting points, not guarantees of a specific player count.
| Use case | Starting memory plan | What can change the requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Small private group | About 8 GB allocated to the server | View distance, number of loaded chunks, dimensions, and early automation |
| Busier group or mature world | About 10–12 GB allocated to the server | Several players online, large factories, chunk loaders, structures, and frequent dimension travel |
| Operating system and services | Additional memory beyond the server allocation | Backups, monitoring, file sharing, desktop applications, and Java overhead |
Do not allocate every gigabyte in the machine to Java. Leave headroom for the operating system and any other services. More memory cannot compensate for a weak CPU, slow storage, excessive chunk loading, or a factory that causes long ticks. Watch the server console and performance metrics after players build automation rather than relying on the initial world-generation experience.
Performance practices that matter
- Use an SSD and keep substantial free space for world growth and backups.
- Reduce unnecessary force-loaded chunks. Chunk loaders keep machines running but also keep their simulation active.
- Set a sensible view distance and simulation distance for the hardware and internet connection.
- Inspect machines and networks that create repeated work when tick times rise.
- Schedule backups when the server is stopped or use a method that produces a consistent snapshot.
- Keep the Java process and Forge files on local storage rather than a slow network share.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting
Self-hosting gives you direct control over the files, JVM arguments, backups, moderation, and update schedule. The trade-off is that you are responsible for Java, Forge, firewall rules, port forwarding, monitoring, recovery, and hardware failures.
Managed hosting charges a recurring fee in exchange for a control panel and provider-operated infrastructure. It can be useful when you want a persistent world without maintaining a computer at home, or when friends are spread across regions and a datacenter can reduce latency.
| Decision factor | Self-hosted server | Managed server |
|---|---|---|
| Setup effort | Install Java, extract the archive, configure the OS and network, and maintain the process | Panel may automate pack, loader, and runtime installation |
| Monthly cost | Usually no hosting invoice, but electricity, hardware, storage, and internet capacity are yours | Recurring fee; price and resource limits depend on the provider and plan |
| File and backup control | Complete control over files, backup destinations, and rollback timing | Depends on panel access, retention policy, and export options |
| Support | You troubleshoot Java, Forge, networking, and hardware | Provider may handle infrastructure and offer support, subject to its terms |
| Latency | Depends on your residential connection and geographic location | Choose a location near most players when the provider offers regional selection |
| Upgrade timing | You decide when to test and apply a new pack release | Panel tools may simplify upgrades, but you still need a backup and compatibility check |
| Performance headroom | Limited by your CPU, RAM, storage, and upload capacity | Limited by the allocated plan and the provider’s node contention |
DoomHosting advertises an ATM9 To the Sky workflow in which its panel downloads the server pack, installs the loader and matching Java version, and restarts the server. That describes an automation pattern rather than a guarantee of current pricing, uptime, locations, or capacity. Verify those details, resource limits, backup terms, and file-download access before paying for any managed service.

Backups, updates, and safe maintenance
Back up before every significant change
Stop the server cleanly before copying the world directory, configuration files, and any scripts needed to recreate the installation. Keep at least one backup away from the server machine. Test restoring a copy; a backup that has never been restored is only an assumption.
Upgrade as a controlled migration
- Write down the current Minecraft version, Forge version, ATM9 Sky release, Java version, and installed server arguments.
- Stop the server and create a dated backup of the world and configuration.
- Read the new release notes and confirm that a matching server-files archive exists.
- Install the new release in a separate directory or clone the existing directory, rather than overwriting the only working copy.
- Test the world with no players connected. Check startup logs, dimensions, machines, quests, and known bases.
- Only after a successful test, schedule the upgrade for everyone and distribute the exact client release.
Never upgrade Forge independently just because a newer build exists. The independent ATM setup guidance recommends using the release-pinned loader supplied with the pack. Changing the loader or configuration outside the pack’s release can create missing-mod, registry, or world-data errors.

Troubleshooting common failures
The launcher reports a missing or incompatible mod
Confirm that the client selected the same ATM9 Sky release as the server. Reinstall the instance from the official project listing if files were manually added or removed. Check that the launcher is using Java 17 or newer and that it has not silently switched to a different runtime.
The server stops during startup
Read the first meaningful error in the log rather than the final cascade of messages. Check Java architecture and version, available disk space, file permissions, and whether the server script was run from the extracted directory. Restore the last known-good backup if a configuration edit preceded the failure.
Players time out or cannot see the server
Test locally on the host machine first. Then verify the server’s configured address and port, operating-system firewall rules, router forwarding, and whether the internet provider blocks inbound connections. A correct modpack cannot overcome a port that is not reachable. For remote players, confirm that the public address has not changed.
The world becomes slow after automation expands
Check tick time while reproducing the slowdown. Reduce force-loaded chunks, lower view or simulation distance, and identify machines or networks that perform work continuously. Add memory only when the Java process is actually constrained; CPU-bound simulation and excessive chunk activity require different fixes.
Recommended Free Tools
A world loads but blocks or machines are missing
Stop immediately and restore the latest backup if world data appears altered. Verify the exact pack and Forge versions on both sides. Do not attempt to repair a suspected registry mismatch by deleting random configuration files; preserve the original directory for diagnosis and test changes on a copy.
Quick Recap
A practical launch checklist
- Client and server both use Minecraft 1.20.1 and the same ATM9 Sky release.
- Forge is the loader supplied or pinned by that release.
- Java 17 or newer, 64-bit, is selected for the client and server.
- The matching
ServerFilesarchive was extracted into its own directory. - The EULA was reviewed and accepted through the generated server file when appropriate.
- The server has started once, stopped cleanly, and generated its configuration.
- An operator account and any whitelist have been configured.
- Firewall and router rules expose only the configured Minecraft service.
- Backups include the world, configuration, and recovery scripts.
- Players have the same release installed before they attempt to connect.
