What ATLOCK v4 says it does
The ATLOCK project README describes the app as free software for Windows 10 or later, distributed as one portable executable without an installer or signup. The listed components are:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- System Lockdown: the project says it can block selected keyboard shortcuts and end certain process tools while active.
- File Guard: the project describes controls based on NTFS access-control lists (ACLs) and says the number of files that can be guarded at once is limited.
- Password Vault: a place to store passwords, according to the project.
- Intruder Ops: optional camera-based photo or video capture; the README says a camera is optional.
These are descriptions from the developer, not independently demonstrated capabilities. The features also have different jobs: blocking a shortcut or restricting access to selected files is not the same as detecting malware, protecting Windows from exploitation, or enforcing application-control policy.

The README says v4 re-engineered the Password Vault to use Fernet encryption with PBKDF2 at 200,000 iterations, replacing an older encoding scheme. It also says v4 removed Gmail and Telegram alert integrations and that there is no master-password recovery mechanism.

- POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The Security Key C NFC is the essential physical passkey for protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts.
- WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single Security Key C NFC secures 100 of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more.
- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your Security Key C NFC via USB-C and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC) to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required.
- TRUSTED PASSKEY TECHNOLOGY: Uses the latest passkey standards (FIDO2/WebAuthn & FIDO U2F) but does not support One-Time Passwords. For complex needs, check out the YubiKey 5 Series.
- BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.
Those details describe the developer’s stated design. They do not establish that the implementation is secure: no code review, cryptographic testing, or independent security audit was performed. A missing recovery mechanism has a direct practical consequence, however: if you forget the master password, the project says it cannot recover it for you. Do not store anything in the vault until you understand that risk and have a safe way to retain the password.
Does ATLOCK send data anywhere?
The project says ATLOCK runs locally and offline, and that vault contents, photos, videos, and logs stay on the machine. That is a developer assertion, not a verified privacy finding; network traffic and runtime behavior were not inspected. If the information is sensitive, treat the app’s privacy description as unconfirmed until you can assess the specific executable and its behavior.

Why Windows may warn about ATLOCK
The README acknowledges that Windows may label ATLOCK unrecognized or suspicious. It attributes warnings to the app being unsigned and built with PyInstaller, calls them false positives, and says code signing is on the roadmap. That explanation is the project’s own; it does not establish that a warning for any particular downloaded file is false.

Microsoft says that if it cannot confidently determine that an app is safe, it checks for a valid signature and treats an unsigned or invalidly signed app as untrusted. Smart App Control does not offer an individual-app bypass; Microsoft advises users to contact the developer to sign the app. See Microsoft’s Smart App Control documentation.

Microsoft’s App & browser control documentation covers other protections, including Microsoft Defender SmartScreen reputation checks, potentially unwanted app blocking, and exploit protection. Smart App Control is not available in Windows 10, so a Windows 10 user should not expect that particular feature or warning pathway.
- Do not dismiss a warning merely because the project calls it a false positive.
- Check that you obtained the executable from the project’s official source and that the file is the intended release. The latest release binary was not independently verified here.
- If Smart App Control blocks it, Microsoft documents no per-app bypass. The prudent course is not to force it to run; ask the developer about signing and wait for an appropriately signed release if you need that assurance.
How ATLOCK fits alongside Windows protections
Think of ATLOCK as an additional utility, not as a replacement for antivirus, SmartScreen, or Windows application control. Microsoft documents AppLocker as a way for organizations to allow or deny executable, script, installer, DLL, and packaged-app files through rules. Microsoft characterizes AppLocker as defense in depth and says organizations needing robust protection should use App Control for Business. Details are in Microsoft’s AppLocker overview.

The practical distinction is between convenience features in an extra app and Windows controls intended to evaluate or constrain what runs. ATLOCK’s listed functions do not establish that it provides equivalent protection, and the available information does not support a comparative claim about effectiveness.

What to verify before deciding
- Your Windows version: the project lists Windows 10 or later, while Smart App Control is a Windows 11 feature.
- The exact warning and file: warnings can reflect reputation or signature status; the project’s general explanation cannot validate a particular copy.
- Your tolerance for unverified claims: encryption, offline operation, and local data storage are described by the developer but were not independently tested.
- Your recovery plan: the project says a forgotten vault master password cannot be recovered.
- Your existing protections: keep Windows security features enabled and follow your organization’s application-control policy, if applicable.
The available information establishes what the project says ATLOCK v4 is intended to do, not whether a particular build is safe, effective, or private in practice. Current release status and Windows behavior can change.
