ASUS V500 SFF (V501MV): What Students and Home Users Should Check Before Buying

The ASUS V501MV is officially a V500 Mini Tower, with configurable processors, graphics, memory, and storage. Here’s what its specifications say—and what to verify in a retailer listing.

The ASUS V501MV is a configurable home and study desktop, but ASUS identifies it as the V500 Mini Tower, not a V500 SFF. ASUS lists several processor and graphics options, so the model code alone does not tell you what a retailer is selling. This review explains the naming distinction, what the official specifications establish, and what to verify in the exact configuration before you buy.

First, what is the ASUS V501MV?

ASUS’s USA product page calls the V501MV the ASUS V500 Mini Tower. ASUS’s comparison page lists the V500 SFF separately as V500SV and also identifies V501SV as an SFF model. In other words, the supplied “V500 SFF (V501MV)” name combines labels for distinct models. The V501MV is the Mini Tower; check the full model code on a listing rather than assuming it describes an SFF chassis.

ASUS positions the Mini Tower for work, study, creative tasks, entertainment, and everyday multitasking at home. Those are the manufacturer’s intended-use claims, not proof of how a particular configuration performs in applications. No independent benchmark or hands-on test results are established here, so this is a specifications-based assessment rather than a tested performance review.

Which processors and graphics configurations are available?

ASUS’s V501MV specification page lists four processor options. Graphics and other components vary by SKU, so a processor name or product-family listing does not establish that a particular unit includes a discrete GPU.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Processor option Core/thread count listed by ASUS Graphics options listed for the product family
Intel Core 3 100U 6 cores / 8 threads NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 6 GB or RTX 5060 8 GB are listed configurations; verify whether the exact SKU includes one.
Intel Core 5 210H 8 cores / 12 threads NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 6 GB or RTX 5060 8 GB are listed configurations; verify whether the exact SKU includes one.

Intel Core 9 270H 14 cores / 20 threads NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 6 GB or RTX 5060 8 GB are listed configurations; verify whether the exact SKU includes one.

The specification page does not establish that every CPU can be paired with every listed graphics option. Nor does the list indicate gaming frame rates or application performance. Treat it as a menu of family-level options, then confirm the exact CPU, GPU, power supply, memory, and storage in the seller’s SKU description.

Is the V501MV a good desktop for students and home users?

It could suit a student or household that wants a conventional desktop and can choose a configuration matched to its workload. A lower-cost configuration may be sufficient for coursework, browsing, and general office tasks; demanding creative software or gaming makes the exact graphics hardware especially important. Those are buying considerations, not conclusions from tested performance: ASUS’s published material does not establish real-world speeds, application results, or gaming rates.

ASUS advertises features such as cooling, quiet operation, reliability, and tool-free access, and describes the computer as designed for a living space. These are manufacturer claims. The official material does not establish long-term reliability, independently measured thermals, or how loud the machine is during a sustained workload.

How large is the Mini Tower, and how much room does it need?

ASUS lists the V501MV at 15.55 × 30.17 × 35.68 cm (6.12 × 11.88 × 14.05 in), excluding the chassis feet and GPU bracket, and 6 kg (13.23 lb). Measure the space where you plan to place it and allow room for cables and airflow. These are V501MV Mini Tower dimensions, not dimensions for the separately identified V500 SFF models.

Can you upgrade memory and storage?

ASUS lists two DDR5 SO-DIMM memory slots, with support up to 64 GB, and two M.2 2280 storage connectors plus two SATA 6 Gb/s ports. The company describes storage capacity up to 4 TB as two 1 TB M.2 SSDs plus one 2 TB 3.5-inch HDD. These are platform limits or example configurations, not a promise that a retail unit ships with that capacity or has every connector free.

The specifications also list a PCIe 4.0 x16 slot operating at x8. ASUS says this slot is unavailable on V501MV SKUs with the Core 3 100U. Before planning an upgrade, verify the full SKU, installed memory arrangement, free connectors, chassis clearance, and compatible parts. A listed maximum does not reveal which components are already installed or whether an individual retailer configuration leaves room for an additional drive.

There is a specific video-adapter caveat: ASUS says the V501MV DisplayPort does not support DP++ passive conversion to HDMI or DVI. If you need HDMI or DVI from that DisplayPort connection, use an active adapter or converter. The separate HDMI output is listed as HDMI 1.4.

How quiet is the ASUS V500 Mini Tower?

ASUS states that the system operates at 38 dB under full load in performance mode. This is a manufacturer-reported figure, not an independently verified measurement, and the page does not establish that it applies to every V501MV configuration. ASUS’s claims about quiet operation should therefore be read as product positioning rather than a substitute for independent acoustic testing.

How should you interpret ASUS’s performance and power claims?

On its undated product page, ASUS claims a 46% CPU performance boost and 34% lower power consumption for a Core 7 240H V501MV compared with a traditional desktop using an Intel Core i5-14400. ASUS describes the compared price ranges as similar and cautions that the figures are theoretical and real-world results may vary. These comparisons are specific to ASUS’s stated systems and methodology; they are not independent test results or universal outcomes for every processor or V501MV configuration.

What should you check in a retailer listing?

ASUS notes that resellers set prices and availability differs by market, so the official product pages do not establish a current local price. Compare the actual configuration and bundle rather than relying on the V500 family name.

  1. Confirm the model: check that the listing says V501MV if you want the Mini Tower, and do not confuse it with the separately identified SFF models.
  2. Identify the hardware: record the exact CPU and whether a discrete GPU is included, including its model and memory capacity.
  3. Check installed memory and storage: note the amount and arrangement of RAM, installed drives, and whether the listing says any slots or connectors are free.
  4. Check fit and connections: compare the Mini Tower’s dimensions with your available space and confirm the ports meet your monitor and peripheral needs.
  5. Verify the bundle and software: check the operating system and whether a keyboard or mouse is actually included. ASUS lists optional wired or wireless peripherals and assembly kits, but inclusion depends on the configuration.
  6. Compare local price: evaluate the exact SKU and bundle at the current price in your region; availability and reseller pricing can change.

What this review can—and cannot—establish

ASUS’s official materials establish the product’s intended positioning, listed CPU and graphics choices, dimensions, ports, and upgrade options. They do not establish real-world application speed, gaming performance, sustained noise, independent power or thermal results, reliability, or comparative value. Without those measurements and current local listings, a buyer can assess whether the listed configuration and connections fit their needs, but not draw a test-backed conclusion about performance per dollar.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
