For the free version, add ActiveMapMod=988598 beneath [ServerSettings] in GameUserSettings.ini. Install any gameplay companions, such as Mythological Creatures (ID 1122696), on the server and every joining client. Astraeos Structures (ID 1183089) is different: it is a client-side cosmetic mod and does not belong in the server’s required-mod list.

What Astraeos adds to ARK: Survival Ascended
Astraeos is a Greek-inspired fantasy map and mod from Nekatus_Modding. Its project page describes roughly 264 km² of landscape, Greek ruins and temples, new bosses and enemies, alpha-dinosaur variants, and teleport travel between spawn areas. The 264 km² figure is the author’s approximation rather than an independently measured survey, so use it as a sense of scale, not a guaranteed playable-area measurement.

The project page presents two ways to obtain the map: an official DLC/store version and a free mod route. The free route is the one that requires the ActiveMapMod setting described below. Because the page does not provide a price or a feature-by-feature entitlement list for the store version, do not assume that the two delivery methods have identical update timing or server-panel labels.

Keep those three entries separate when you build a mod list. The map is the world itself, Mythological Creatures changes gameplay by adding creatures, and Astraeos Structures changes visual assets on a player’s client. Installing a cosmetic package as though it were a server gameplay dependency creates unnecessary troubleshooting without adding server-side content.

Before you change the server
Decide which content you actually want
- For only the map, use Astraeos ID
988598and the map nameAstraeos_WP. - For the additional Minotaurus, Seahorse and Cyclops, add Mythological Creatures ID
1122696as a required gameplay mod. - For cosmetic structure skins, let players install Astraeos Structures ID
1183089on their own clients. It is usable on any map and is not a server dependency.
Plan for a new save
CurseForge’s ARK installation guidance states that mods cannot be added to existing games. Treat a move to Astraeos as a new-map deployment: back up the current save, announce the change, and expect to create a new world rather than attaching the map to an established save. A backup is still valuable even when you are starting fresh because a configuration mistake or failed restart can leave a server with an unusable save.
Check platform and hardware expectations
CurseForge says ARK: Survival Ascended mods can be cooked for PC, Xbox and PlayStation, and that servers may be PC-only or cross-platform when the provider supports the relevant configuration. Confirm that your server host exposes ASA mod configuration and that each target platform can download the selected mods. The Astraeos author specifically warns that the map’s size may cause technical issues on lower-powered Xbox Series S consoles. That is a warning, not a controlled benchmark: no independent frame-rate, memory or server-capacity test establishes a universal hardware threshold.

Control panels use different labels, but the underlying settings are the same. Stop the server before editing files or applying a map change; otherwise a panel may overwrite your edits during the next restart.

- Back up the existing save and configuration. Keep a copy outside the live server directory so you can roll back if the panel rejects the map or the world fails to boot.
- Open the server’s map and mod configuration. Some panels provide a map selector and a separate active-mod field. Select or add Astraeos using mod ID
988598. - Set the map name. Enter
Astraeos_WPexactly, including capitalization and the underscore. A correct mod ID with a different map string will not load the intended world. - Edit
GameUserSettings.iniwhen using the free-mod path. Under the existing[ServerSettings]header, add this line on its own:
ActiveMapMod=988598- Save the configuration and restart. Watch the startup log or panel status until the server reports that it has loaded the selected map and active mod. Do not assume that a successful process start means the correct map loaded; verify the map name in the panel or log.
- Keep the required mod list consistent. If Mythological Creatures is enabled, add
1122696to the server’s required gameplay mods as well. Do not add Astraeos Structures as a required server mod.
The exact control-panel field names are host-specific. The authoritative values that must survive the translation are the map name Astraeos_WP, the Astraeos ID 988598, and, for the free version, ActiveMapMod=988598 under [ServerSettings].
Install the mods in the ASA client
ASA handles mod installation inside the game rather than through the CurseForge desktop application. The general path is:
- Open the in-game Mods list.
- Choose Browse mods.
- Search for the project and select Install.
- Open Mod settings and activate the installed mod.
Players joining a modded server are shown the required mods and are prompted to install missing ones. That prompt covers server-required content; it does not turn a client-only cosmetic mod into a server dependency. If a player cannot join, have them compare their installed and activated IDs with the server’s required list, then restart the game after an update so the new package is mounted.

Mods cannot be added to an existing game, so create or join the Astraeos world after the mod is active. A player who activates Astraeos after already creating a non-Astraeos save should not expect that save to transform into the new map.
Add Mythological Creatures to the server
Mythological Creatures is a separate project with ID 1122696. It adds Minotaurus, Seahorse and Cyclops, and its project page says those creatures can transfer to any map where the mod is installed. Install and activate it on the server and on every client that needs to see or use the creatures.
What the mod changes
- Creatures: Minotaurus, Seahorse and Cyclops.
- Transfers: the project description says the creatures can transfer to another map when that destination also has the mod installed.
- Spawn configuration: the page documents spawn-entry groups. Use those documented groups when deciding where the creatures appear instead of inventing a generic creature-spawn command.
- Saddles: the page says saddles appear in Blue, Purple and Yellow The Island drops.
- Stability: the project is marked early access, so updates may change behavior or require a matching client download.
A safe deployment sequence
- Stop the server and save a backup.
- Add mod ID
1122696to the server’s gameplay-mod list in addition to Astraeos. - Start the server and allow the mod to finish loading before testing spawns or drops.
- Have a test character verify that the intended spawn-entry groups produce creatures and that the documented drop tables are present.
- Only then announce the creature content to the wider player group.
Because the mod is early access, keep a rollback copy of the save and configuration before updating it. If a creature disappears after an update, first confirm that the server and clients are on the same mod revision; do not immediately wipe the world.

Use Astraeos Structures without installing it on the server
Astraeos Structures (ID 1183089) is a custom cosmetic structure-skin mod. Its author describes it as visual-only, usable on any map, and client-sided. A player who wants the skins should install and activate the mod through the in-game Mods list, but the server operator should not add it to the server’s required gameplay list.

Cross-platform and hosting considerations
CurseForge identifies Nitrado as a supported ARK server provider and says ASA mods can be published for PC, Xbox and PlayStation, including cross-platform server configurations where supported. That does not guarantee that every panel, region or console combination exposes every Astraeos option. Before committing to a long-running world, confirm three things with the host:
- The panel accepts custom map names and active mod IDs.
- The selected platform mix can download and run the required mods.
- You can edit or verify
GameUserSettings.iniunder[ServerSettings]if the panel does not exposeActiveMapModdirectly.
CurseForge also allows free and paid premium ARK mods. Astraeos’s free-mod instructions are the values given above; do not infer a premium entitlement, subscription or price from the general platform policy.
Troubleshooting an Astraeos server
The server starts on the wrong map
- Check that the map field says
Astraeos_WP, not the project title or a store listing name. - Check that
ActiveMapMod=988598is under[ServerSettings], with no quotation marks or extra spaces in the key. - Confirm that the server was fully stopped before the file was edited and restarted afterward.
- If the panel has both a map selector and a command-line override, remove the conflicting override or set both to Astraeos.
Players are missing a required mod
Have the player open Mods list → Browse mods, install the missing project, activate it in Mod settings, and rejoin. If the join prompt lists a mod the operator intended to keep optional, remove that ID from the server-required list; this commonly happens when Astraeos Structures is entered alongside gameplay mods.

The map loads but creatures do not appear
- Verify that ID
1122696is installed and active on both server and client. - Check the Mythological Creatures project’s documented spawn-entry groups rather than relying on an Astraeos map spawn assumption.
- Allow time for a clean restart after changing the mod list.
- Remember that early-access content can change between updates; compare the server and client versions before changing the save.
A console player reports instability
On Xbox Series S, the author warns that the massive map may cause technical issues. Reduce other variables first: test the map without optional creature and cosmetic mods, verify that the console has completed the mod download, and capture whether the failure occurs during loading or after entering the world. There is no published independent hardware threshold, so a report from one console should not be treated as a universal incompatibility finding.
A cosmetic skin is not visible
Confirm that Astraeos Structures ID 1183089 is installed and activated on the affected client. Because it is client-sided and visual-only, adding it to the server will not repair a missing local installation. Also verify that the player is looking at a structure type supported by the skin package.
Operational checklist for a reliable launch
- Back up the old save and configuration.
- Tell players that switching to Astraeos requires a new game rather than modifying an existing save.
- Set
Astraeos_WPas the map name. - For the free route, place
ActiveMapMod=988598under[ServerSettings]. - Add
1122696only if the server will use Minotaurus, Seahorse or Cyclops. - Keep
1183089optional and client-side. - Ask every player to install and activate the required mods through the in-game Mods list.
- Test a clean join, a map spawn, a documented creature spawn if enabled, and a cosmetic client before opening the server publicly.
- Monitor updates because Mythological Creatures is early access and download totals, file versions and platform policies can change.
What is established—and what is not
The project description establishes the map’s approximate scale, theme, listed enemies and travel features, while the installation guidance establishes the IDs and configuration names. It does not establish a universal server-player limit, latency target, frame-rate guarantee or minimum hardware specification. Plan capacity using your host’s normal ASA limits and your own staged test rather than treating the 264 km² estimate as a performance benchmark.
Likewise, the download figures shown on project pages are snapshots that change over time. They are not a quality score, concurrency measurement or compatibility guarantee. A successful deployment depends on matching the server’s required IDs, the client’s activated IDs, the exact map name and the platform combination your host supports.
