On a compatible Mac with Siri AI enabled, press Command-Space, type your question in Spotlight, then choose Ask Siri in the results. If Spotlight recognizes the request as a Siri query, pressing Return can start the conversation.
Check that your Mac can use Siri AI
Apple lists macOS 27 or later and an Apple Intelligence-enabled MacBook Neo with A18 Pro or a Mac with M1 or later as requirements. Siri and the device language must also be set to a supported language. Apple says Siri AI is available in English to start, and notes that some Apple Intelligence features can vary by region or language. Apple’s setup and availability guidance has the current eligibility details.

Siri AI is marked as beta. Usage limits may apply; Apple says daily limits for server-side Apple Intelligence features can vary with the feature, request complexity, system demand, and policy. The cited Apple documentation does not specify a fixed quota or price.

Enable Siri AI in System Settings
- Open System Settings.
- Select Siri in the sidebar.
- Choose Try Siri AI (Beta) and follow the onscreen instructions. If Siri is off, turn it on first, then choose the beta option.
Ask a question from Spotlight
- Press Command-Space to open Spotlight.
- Type a question or request in natural language.
- When Ask Siri appears in the results, select it. Apple’s instructions specify choosing Ask Siri below the search field. In its WWDC 2026 demonstration, pressing Return after Spotlight recognized the typed query began the conversation.
For example, Apple demonstrated entering, “How should I think about building a makerspace in a shed?” in Spotlight, then pressing Return to start a Siri conversation. This is an official demonstration, not a guarantee that every question will produce the same result.

What you can ask Siri AI to do
Apple describes Siri AI as able to answer open-ended questions, help brainstorm, provide broad world knowledge, find personal context, and take actions across apps. Its examples include locating a photo or email, asking about something on screen, and requesting an action in an app. Availability and results depend on the request and supported features; these examples are not a promise that every action will work.
You can ask follow-up questions to continue a conversation. Apple also describes the dedicated Siri app as a way to revisit conversations.

If Ask Siri does not appear
- Check setup: Confirm Siri AI is enabled at System Settings → Siri → Try Siri AI (Beta).
- Check compatibility: Confirm the Mac runs macOS 27 or later and meets Apple’s listed hardware requirements.
- Check language settings: Siri and device language need to be set to a supported language. English is the starting language for Siri AI.
- Try a clearly worded question: Type the request in Spotlight and look for Ask Siri in the result list. Apple’s WWDC example shows that Spotlight can recognize a natural-language query, but does not establish that every phrase will trigger it.
Spotlight and Siri AI use the Mac’s built-in features; Apple’s documented workflow does not require an accessory.
