Those are the latest completed editions in the results reported here. The totals show what India won at each event, but they are not a like-for-like measure of performance: the Games took place in different years and had different sports programmes.
India’s medal totals at recent editions
The table puts each result beside its edition year and, where reported, the size of India’s contingent. Medal counts for the Asian Games through Birmingham 2022 are reported by PIB; the UK government also reports Birmingham’s result. PIB reports the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games result and contingent size.

| Commonwealth Games | 2026, Glasgow | 39 | 13 | 17 | 9 | 124-member contingent |
The contingent figures provide participation context, not a conversion rate for medals. For Glasgow 2026, PIB describes the Indian contingent as 124 members; it does not specify in the cited summary that all 124 were athletes.
What the latest results say
Asian Games: India’s best reported tally
India’s 107 medals at Hangzhou 2023 were its highest-ever Asian Games tally, according to PIB. The haul comprised 28 gold, 38 silver and 41 bronze medals. PIB described the edition as a landmark in which India recorded its “highest ever medal tally of 107.”

Commonwealth Games: the latest reported result
At Glasgow 2026, India won 39 medals: 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze. The Games were held from 23 July to 2 August 2026, according to PIB.
Earlier Commonwealth result for context
India won 61 medals at Birmingham 2022—22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze—and finished fourth, according to PIB and the UK government’s event summary.

Why the totals are not a direct performance comparison
A medal total depends on more than a country’s results against competitors. The available programme information shows that the editions differed materially: the UK government says Birmingham 2022 had 19 sports and 280 medal events, including 44 para-sport events across eight para sports. PIB describes Glasgow 2026 as having a 10-sport programme with six fully integrated para sports. The supplied figures do not provide a harmonized count of medal events for every edition in the table, so there is no sound basis here for adjusting the totals into a common measure.

- Different team sizes: the reported Indian contingents varied by edition. A larger contingent does not automatically translate into proportionally more medals.
- Team and individual events: medal counts do not account for the number of athletes who contribute to a team medal or for qualification and event availability.
- Different years: Hangzhou 2023 and Glasgow 2026 are not simultaneous snapshots of the same competition environment.
For those reasons, comparing the medal totals and medal mix is useful for describing results, but dividing medals by contingent size should not be treated as a performance score.

How India’s results changed across the reported editions
In the Asian Games results shown here, India’s total rose from 57 medals at Incheon 2014 to 69 at Jakarta 2018 and 107 at Hangzhou 2023. The Commonwealth Games sequence was 64 at Glasgow 2014, 66 at Gold Coast 2018, 61 at Birmingham 2022 and 39 at Glasgow 2026. These sequences describe the reported totals; they do not by themselves establish a clean upward or downward trend, because participation and event programmes differed.
PIB identifies wrestling, weightlifting, table tennis, badminton and athletics as sports that have contributed medals for India across these competitions. That general observation is not a sport-by-sport breakdown for every edition, so it cannot explain the change in any one edition’s total on its own.

Which result should you cite?
- For India’s highest Asian Games tally, cite 107 medals at Hangzhou 2023, including 28 gold, 38 silver and 41 bronze.
- For India’s latest reported Commonwealth Games tally, cite 39 medals at Glasgow 2026, including 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze.
- For the earlier Commonwealth benchmark, cite 61 medals at Birmingham 2022, including 22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze; India finished fourth.
Each number belongs with its edition year: neither the Asian Games nor the Commonwealth Games has a single timeless medal total for India.
