Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsVerdict: Ashampoo Backup Pro 27 makes file backups, versioned folders, and drive images approachable, with a clearer plan workflow and a unified place to browse and restore files. It is a capable fit for routine Windows protection, but its missing differential images, limited scheduling, and restore-only rescue media leave gaps for users who expect more advanced disaster-recovery tools. One important point is unsettled: PCWorld says continuous backup was removed, while Ashampoo’s manual still describes a “Realtime Backup” option.
What Backup Pro 27 does well
Backup Pro 27 brings file-and-folder backups and whole-drive or partition images into one Windows application. It supports local, network, and selected cloud destinations. In file backups, versioning lets you retain earlier copies; for drive imaging, PCWorld reports full and incremental images, but not differential images.

Ashampoo’s feature list describes a redesigned interface, simpler plan setup, unified plan management, dashboard statistics and SMART status, a unified Backup Explorer, individual-file extraction, a redesigned rescue interface, drive checking and repair, dark mode, and improved BitLocker support. Those are vendor-described features, rather than independent findings about performance. The practical appeal is the workflow: create and manage plans in one place, then use Backup Explorer to locate and restore individual files.
PCWorld contributor Jon L. Jacobi tested file and image backups and restorations across local and online destinations, with encrypted and compressed as well as unencrypted and uncompressed configurations. He reported that the tasks completed without glitches in his testing. His speed assessment—about what he expected for the destination media—was not a controlled benchmark. The result is encouraging, but it is one reviewer’s experience, not a broad reliability guarantee.

Where “pro” users may hit limits
Scheduling and real-time backup are unclear
PCWorld’s September 30, 2026 review says continuous or real-time backup has been removed, reducing scheduling granularity. However, Ashampoo’s Backup Pro 27 manual, dated November 18, 2025, still describes a “Realtime Backup” option. Those accounts conflict, so users who need changes captured immediately should check the available scheduling controls in the current installed build and verify the behavior with a test file before relying on it.
No differential images
PCWorld reports that image backups can be full or incremental, but not differential. That narrows the available image-chain choices for people who specifically want differential backups as part of their retention or recovery strategy.

Rescue media restores, but cannot make a new backup
You can create bootable rescue media on USB or CD/DVD. Ashampoo’s manual says its creation uses Microsoft’s Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK), and that restoring the system requires a prior backup made with Backup Pro. PCWorld reports that the rescue environment is restore-only: it cannot create a fresh backup before troubleshooting a failing Windows installation. If you want to protect a machine before attempting a repair, make and verify a backup in Windows first.
Cloud destination coverage is selective
The application supports some cloud services, but PCWorld notes that Amazon S3 and S3-compatible destinations are missing. Ashampoo advertises cloud saves “up to 30% faster”; that is a vendor claim, not an independently verified benchmark in the sources cited here.

- SuperSpeed USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps)
Plans, storage formats, and restoring files
The manual describes plans that can select files and folders or drives, choose a local or cloud destination, and configure compression, password protection, and storage format. Its two formats trade convenience against space and metadata:
| Format | What it offers | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| More accessible | Backup contents can be browsed in Windows Explorer. | Uses more space and omits extended file attributes. |
| More efficient | Uses less space and retains extended attributes such as permissions and symlinks. | Must be opened through Backup Pro. |
PCWorld also describes image containers in .vmdk format and says encrypted images require Backup Pro for browsing or restoration. That dependency, along with the manual’s format trade-offs, makes a test restore especially useful: confirm that the backup contains the files and metadata you need and that you can open it using the access you expect.

Recovery planning and subscription expiry
A system image is only useful if you can restore it when Windows will not start. Prepare rescue media while the computer is working, keep it somewhere accessible, and confirm that a previous Backup Pro backup is available. PCWorld reports that rescue media can still restore backups after a subscription expires, but that restoring compressed or encrypted backups through the installed program may be affected by expiry. The review does not establish the exact current license rules for every backup type, so check Ashampoo’s terms for your license and validate access to long-term archives before depending on them.

Ashampoo lists support for Windows 11 and x64 Windows 10. Its requirements exclude ARM processors and Windows Server, and state that partitions or storage devices of 8 TB or more are unsupported. Installation requires 500 MB of free disk space, internet access for activation, periodic license checks, and full administrative rights. Check the official requirements before building a backup plan around a particular PC or large storage device.

One-time license or subscription?
The price and device counts differ across the dated review and the current US license chooser, so treat them as separate snapshots rather than a stable price comparison.
| Source and date | License shown | Price and terms reported |
|---|---|---|
| PCWorld review, September 30, 2026 | One-time license | $25 at the sale price, discounted from $66; device count not stated in the review. |
| PCWorld review, September 30, 2026 | Annual subscription | $16 per year; device count not stated in the review. |
| Ashampoo US license chooser, captured October 3, 2026 | One-time license | $30 for one device, shown against $60. |
| Ashampoo US license chooser, captured October 3, 2026 | Annual subscription | $16 per year for three devices; upgrades included and cancellation at will. |
For one PC and a preference for a single payment, the one-time option is the more direct fit; for several devices or included upgrades, the displayed US subscription may suit better. Before choosing, weigh the subscription’s continuing license checks against how long you need to restore archived backups. The review’s expiry warning makes it prudent to test recovery and confirm current license terms, rather than assuming every backup remains equally accessible after a plan ends.
Is Ashampoo Backup Pro 27 worth using?
It is a reasonable choice for Windows users who value approachable plan creation, file versioning, individual-file recovery, and both file and image backups. It is a weaker match if you require confirmed real-time capture, differential images, backup creation from rescue media, S3 support, or broad platform compatibility. The clearest way to judge fit is to build a small plan, run it to the destination you intend to use, and perform a test restore before trusting it with important data.
