Arturia’s AstroLab 2.0 firmware adds Sound Edit pages to the keyboard’s front panel, letting players shape selected instrument parameters with its four macro knobs. It brings envelopes, filter, glide and other key controls within reach without a computer—but it does not turn AstroLab into a hardware version of every instrument’s full software editor.
What Sound Edit adds to AstroLab
Arturia says AstroLab 2.0 puts each instrument’s key parameters under four macro knobs. In the new Sound Edit view, dedicated pages expose controls including envelopes, filter and glide, so you can adjust aspects of a selected sound at the keyboard. The controls available depend on the instrument; Arturia describes access to key parameters, not every parameter in every plug-in. Arturia’s AstroLab 2.0 update page describes the feature.

This is a middle ground between playing a preset unchanged and building a patch in software: you can shape selected aspects of a sound on the instrument itself, while more extensive editing remains a computer-based workflow.

New sampled instruments
Arturia says the update adds more than 60 new sounds, including an acoustic piano built with eight velocity layers, funk and orchestral brass, pop strings, and upright and electric basses. These are vendor-listed additions; no independent performance testing is established here.

Performance and workflow changes
Arturia also lists sampler-polyphony improvements and refinements to Analog Lab linking and the update workflow. The published feature description does not provide instrument-by-instrument performance measurements, so those improvements should not be read as a guarantee of identical polyphony across all sounds.
How Sound Edit fits the Analog Lab workflow
AstroLab can be used on its own or alongside Analog Lab on a computer. Arturia describes the keyboard as including more than 30 instruments and hundreds of presets. Analog Lab can manage presets, transfer sounds, prepare playlists and edit parameters assigned to AstroLab’s eight encoders. See Arturia’s Analog Lab overview for the companion-app workflow.

For deeper patch creation, Arturia’s ecosystem workflow uses Pigments or V Collection through Analog Lab’s interactive instrument views. You can create or edit a patch, assign macros and add sounds to AstroLab’s library. That computer-based route remains distinct from Sound Edit, which provides selected controls at the keyboard rather than unrestricted editing of every software instrument. Arturia outlines this workflow on its AstroLab ecosystem page.

How to install AstroLab 2.0
Arturia’s standard update route uses Analog Lab in standalone mode and a USB connection between the keyboard and computer. Allow enough disk space and do not disconnect or interrupt the update while it is running. The 7.87 GB figure is the firmware listing; Arturia separately recommends at least 20 GB of free space on the computer’s main disk for downloading and extracting the archive.
- Install the latest version of Analog Lab through Arturia Software Center.
- Connect AstroLab to the computer with a USB cable.
- Open Analog Lab in standalone mode, then link AstroLab from the application to start the update.
- Wait for the update to finish without interrupting the process. If the normal route is unavailable, Arturia also documents updating from a file.
For the current instructions and manual-update route, follow Arturia’s AstroLab update procedure.

Compatibility details to check
Instrument behavior is not uniform across AstroLab. Arturia’s FAQ notes that compatible presets can have reduced or different polyphony and that some sound banks may not be fully compatible. It also reports 22.8 GB of available storage for presets and samples, with the caveat that available space may change in future updates. Consult the instrument-specific polyphony and compatibility information in Arturia’s AstroLab FAQ before relying on a particular sound or bank in a performance.
